I was at Barnes and Noble this past weekend, flipping through some graphic design hardcover books (which I find fascinating) and stumbled upon a mention of this scent, 001 Coty by Coty Perfumes. I found the following press release online from 2001:
Coty Inc., a multibrand manufacturer and marketer of fragrances, has announced the launch of 001Coty, a new limited edition, unisex fragrance to be sold exclusively on the Internet. 001Coty is the first fragrance created by Coty's Ideas+Image department, which is led by Executive VP Douglas Toews, who also serves as the company's head creative director. The fragrance marks the first time Coty has marketed a fragrance exclusively on the Internet and is supported by a print and e-mail campaign. The new fragrance will be produced in a limited edition of 5,000 bottles available in one size, a 1.4-fl.-oz.cologne (41 ml) bottle priced at $100.
Here's a picture of the bottle:

Apparently it also won a FIFI in 2002 for Men's Fragrance Star of the Year Non-Store Venues.
I found an article on Wired Magazine online here. I also found a screen shot of the book [Skin] that I saw the scent in, clearly showing the bottle opened up and a small description of the designer, engineer, etc. here. The scent had it's own website, but the link to the site is dead.
I love the description of the scent from the book, 'The unisex fragrance is intended to evoke the smell of electricity, the smell of digital information'.
Any Basenoters smell this one?
