Good Scents with Good Longevity

I'm a senior in high school. Right now I have cool water and I have John Varvatos coming from ebay very soon. I'm looking for a scent that would last the whole day. Cool Water certainly is not that, and from what I hear John Varvatos isnt good with longevity either.

So basically, good high school, casual wear, day scents, that would last 8+ hours.

Where do you apply your cologne? There is a thread about sillage, and I was always under the impression that the best places are wrists and neck. But the idea place would be chest/neck/inside elbow.

Of course it doesn't matter if the fragrance itself doesn't have good longevity.

I got Terre D'hermes last night. I put it on before going to sleep (weird, but wanted to test it out asap), and I could still smell it.

Oh and there is a thread right on this page that might be of interest:

new question.

In the winter months, my skin tends to be dry and as a result my fragrances don't last quite as long as they do in the summer. I suppose the dry skin soaks up the fragrance. I have found that applying a SMALL amount of unscented lotion prior to applying fragrance makes the fragrance last quite a bit longer. Some would rightly point out that this practice will slightly alter the fragrance, but it is worth the trade-off for me. If you can find a lotion that contains the same scent, then I would use that to layer the scent on. Give it a try and see if your fragrance lasts longer.

First of all, Welcome to Basenotes.

Please refer to this thread to get some ideas of how to apply your fragrance. There's alot more to sillage and longevity than 50 sprays and the strength of the juice. It's a science to this.

I for one don't have a problem with longevity. I do wear mostly EDP, but I have a skin regimen that helps with my sillage and longevity. My frags last until I wash them off. I do not have to reapply during the day either. It will be fun just to try the different techniques. Everyone has their ways of putting on frags. You'll be amazed at what a good scrubbing and some lotion can do. Let us know what you tried and what worked for you.

Strong, very strong five year thread bump.

Haha, yup, way to necro the thread with some excellent advice there, Big Steve! I'm sure the OP, if still alive, is entirely grateful for it half a decade on.

Attar by Montale

Cool water is great. BUT, a high school senior who's mature and smart enough to bang Wu-tang could do better.

Armani Code
Spicebomb
Aqua di Parma
Dior Homme Sport

Just my thoughts.

Burberry for Men & Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme. Both frags have great scent and good-excellent longevity. I think both would suit what you're looking for. Plus, you definitely won't find any guys wearing the same stuff at the high school level.

1 Million.

8 hours in and still projects like a bomb. And I like the scent a lot too.

I say get one of the Mugler flankers. My favorite is Pure Havane followed by Pure Malt. These last a very long time, and unique/ sweet. Have to say Le Male would be a good option as well.

If you want something that you can smell for 24 hours from a small dab then you don't need to look any further than Givenchy Gentleman.

But (and this is a very big but) if someone you're around doesn't like really strong patchouli notes (and I pretty much guarantee that this will include several people in any large group) then sharing a space with you whilst you're wearing GG could be really unpleasant for them.

Better a less unusual, less enormous scent reapplied gently every few hours to keep your scent at an appropriate level for wearing in offices or schools than leaving a trail behind you all day.

EDIT TO ADD: I adore Givenchy Gentleman BTW and wear it myself often. I wear my scents just for me though, and don't share my whole days with anybody else who is forced to share my fragrance whether they want to or not.

Pure Malt, Pure Havane, Givenchy Play Intense, Aventus. All of these have amazing longevity.
Aventus would be my number 1 pick for you.
YSL Rive Gauche PH (Intense flanker also being worth testing)
One Man Show Gold by Bogart is another that has excellent longevity and is quite inexpensive.
Montale Black Aoud, Attar, Aoud Lime, Dark Aoud,
they all last easily 18 -24 hours.
If niche try Montale Black Oud and for mainstream D&G or ADG

Inexpensive High School type: Versace Pour Homme, great longevity...YSL L'Homme Libre, THierry Mugler A*Men, Pure Malt, or Pure Havanna have great longevity, and you can get them on sale...
