Comprehensive List of Violet Scents

Continuing the "note" theme...the ever popular violet. As with the other lists, suggestions are based on fragrances either BASED on the violet, or use violet as a main component, and focusing on either men's scents or scents popular with the boys (maybe a ladies list could be created?). Also, we're talking the flower, not the leaves. Suggestions please...I'm sure I missed a ton!

Great!

If you're interested in adding some unisex/women's fragrances then please add:

Un Parfum des Sens et Bois by The Different Company
La Collection Particuliere No. 8 by Christian Dior
Violettes de Toulouse by Berdoues
Voilette Madame and Attrape-Coeur by Guerlain (note the BN directory misspells VM as violette but the correct spelling is voilette)
N'Aimez Que Moi by Caron
Wild Violet by Scent Systems
Psychotrope by Parfumerie Generale
Violette by Annick Goutal
Cuir Amethyste by Armani Prive Collection

Insolence Guerlain

Creed Green Irish Tweed
Creed Green Valley
Paul Smith Men
Paul Smith London for Men
Eau de Cartier

(Though Green Irish Tweed and Green Valley might be violet leaves instead of the flower-- I'm not sure-- I forget what the flower smells like at the moment).

I don't see violet listed in the notes for either?

Distinctive marine top notes including sea kelp are tamed by Mediterranean citrus fruits, Tunisian rosemary and carrot seed, enhanced by rare violet leaf absolute

Violet leaf on both accounts...ditto for both Paul Smith's.

Maybe there should be a list of violet leaves! There seem to be a ton of them....which is confusing. :S

Thanks for all the input!!!

Just reading the list that's compiled to this point, I am overwhelmed with scents that I can't wait to sample. This list has renewed my excitement about violet notes.

I think I will be heading straight for Ajaccio Violets by Trumper next - it sounds incredible.

It's probably because it's the only natural violet product available*. Violet leaf absolute is pricey, but violet flower absolute was astronomical, and as soon as synthetic violet became available in the late 1800s I think the majority of perfumers turned to that. ( I cannot find any evidence of violet flower absolute being made at all these days; though it, like lilac absolute, apparently existed at some point. )

*Orris is used as a violet type ingredient because of its similar scent.

I think you're correct. I have heard of the violet flower absolute, and it was utterly unaffordable. Methyl Ionone all the way!

I'm thinking of starting a Rose thread next....although the volume may be overwhelming.

One more to add to the list: Violetta di Bosco by I Profumi di Firenze (not listed in the BN directory, but link here for those interested)

From Luckyscent:

No. 7 notes
Bergamot, Mandarin Oil, Clary Sage Absolute, Pepperwood, Jasmine, Saffron, Pomerose, Violet, Musk, Leather, Tonka Bean, Australian Coachwood

Report back when you smell. I'm trying to keep the list to stuff that has a predominent violet note...I don't want to rely on a list of notes. I was curious about this line...so a general review would be great too!

Jolie Madame is an interesting mix of violet and leather, but I have no sense of how this one might work on a man.

Forgot about that one...I think it works quite well on a man (if one can overlook the name!)

Oh, it's got a prominent violet note. Violet leaves, that is. It starts out slightly aquatic - I'd be willing to bet it's got some calone in it. Then it fades to a nice clean violet leaf note that might have a hint of iris mixed in as well.

Keiko Mecheri Genie du Bois is an often overlooked violet scent.
