Your favorite fragrance names

Thread Starter
As the title suggests.

My favorites are L'Air du Desert Marocain (Tauer), Tea for Two (L'Artisan) and L'Ombre dans L'Eau (Diptyque), roughly in that order. Hmm, maybe I have a liking for poetic names? Sometimes the names are so compelling that it sounds like something you have to try...
CdG series names are very appealing to me:
Anabar
Skai
Soda
Kyoto

I don't know, something about short and snappy. I also love scents that are named blandly, so I can refer to it as something else
post #3 of 84
For me it's L'Instant de Guerlain pour homme Extreme Eau de Parfum ... that's how I see it being advertised here!
I like the names

Angéliques sous la Pluie (because of the image of angelica under the rain)
Mandragore (because of the mystery and folklore of mandrake root)
Sybaris (because of the ancient pleasure capital of Magna Graecia)
Illicit (because it's kind of thrilling to break rules)
Trouble (because it can be fun, in retrospect, of course)
Le Baiser du Dragon (the Dragon's Kiss, you gotta love it)
Ma Griffe (My Talons, or roughly, "in my clutches")
Parfum Sacré (recalls the sacred mysteries)
Antaeus (for the not-quite-invincible Greek hero)
Coromandel (exotic names invoke the mysterious East, in this case, lacquered screens from the Coromandel coast of India)
Angélique Encens (a play on words: it names the ingredients, angelica and incense, but suggests "angelic incense")
Nomade (an ambling, wandering journey through life)
Bois de Paradis (the Wood of Paradise, the forests of the blessed)
Eau Illuminée (Luminous Water)
Bois d'Orage (Stormy Woods)
Palais Jamais (the Palace 'Never')
Zizanie (Tares, the seeds of discord, a weed sown among one's enemies' wheat to spite them)
Insensé (Senseless, Unconscious)
Cabochard (French for Pig-headed, Stubborn)
Après l'Ondée (After the Rainstorm)
Chamade (the Drumbeat of Surrender, or Pounding Heart)
Cuir Béluga (Leather Beluga, the latter for the sperm whale, i. e., ambergris)
Mitsouko (Japanese for 'Mystery')
Vol de Nuit (Nightflight, or in another sense, Night Heist)
Bel Ami (Beautiful Friend, the title of a romantic novel on the theme of adultery, by Guy de Maupassant in 1885)
Méchant Loup (Wicked Wolf... yup, the one in the fairy tale "Little Red Riding Hood")
Safran Troublant (Disquieting Saffron)
Timbuktu (just the romance of a legendary, far-off place)
Route du Vétiver (the Road to Vetiver... and what a journey!)
Ténéré (the name of a desert wind of North Africa)
Minotaure (the half-man, half-bull of Greek myth, straight from the Labyrinth of Minos on ancient Crete)
Vent Vert (Green Wind, and an apt name for it, too)
Macassar (an exotic port on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, formerly Celebes, from where macassar oil, a Victorian-era hair pomade, was shipped)
Padparadscha (in the language of Sri Lanka
[Sinhalese], the name for a glorious and very expensive yellow-orange variety of sapphire; I once saw a four-carat one on sale for just over $10,000)
Daim Blond (Blond Suede, a lovely tactile image that captures the feel of the fragrance)
Louve (She-Wolf... shades of Romulus and Remus)
Miel de Bois (Woodland Honey, alluding to the main ingredients)
Antidote (very handy in case of poisoning!)

Nice list, Jaime!
I second Angelique sous la Pluie - beautiful!
Vol de Niut, from the novel by St. Exupery?
I have to take issue with your translation of Route du Vetiver; I rather think it's Road of Vetiver, or Vetiver Road...

To your list, add:
Kouros - a representation of a male youth in ancient Greek statuary
Apres l'Ondee - After the rain shower
Muscs Koublai Khan - no explanation necessary!

1. Chanel Pour Monsieur. Sounds like something Cary Grant (one of my favorite movie stars) would choose to wear.

2. Habanita. I picture Rita Hayworth in the film, "The Loves of Carmen."

3. 1881. Sounds like a fine, old vintage--anything

4. Irisia. I hear Sophia Loren wears it. Mamma mia... http://www.freewebs.com/celebrityfragrances/

Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin.

Terre d'Hermes

matches the scent and the image of this house. The bottle is amazing too.
Le Mâle

Muscs Koublaï Khän
not sure what it smells like, but how could you go wrong with a name like "fracas?"
the name "shalimar" also is, perhaps, one of the more beautiful sounds made by the human voice

i second koublai khan.....especially since 99% of people who wear the fragrance have no idea who koublai khan is.......and once you do know/realize who he is, it helps you realize what the fragrance is all about

Armani Attitude, Dior Homme, Ice Man TM
Steel Vagina. LOL, Kidding. Was that the name in the Boomerang movie? I forget.
JaimeB, That is a great list of beautiful names!

I like "Après l'Ondée", which I prefer to translate simply as "After the Rain". This sounds to me like the name of a great tragic novel.
After the rain, hmmm, I believe that is the name of ALL detergent. Sounds better as a novel though. Serously if I was to pick one at this moment, it woud be:

Terre D'Hermes for reason that Jock w/ scents mentioned. I also like Feuille Vert, others.
Mechant Loup
Poison
Parfum Sacre

Those are my top three...I also love the obscure & sometimes obscene frag. names tvlampboy comes up with ~ I don't know how he finds them, or remembers them, but they're always entertaining. I hope he posts on this thread!

Ooops, almost forgot about Voleur de Roses ~ love it!

Don't Get Me Wrong Baby, I Don't Swallow
Musc Ravageur. Whenever someone asks me what I'm wearing & I say this name, they always repeat "Ravageur." It's kinda funny .
"Smut" by BPAL. It's a sugared musk. Just perfect. I love it when DH tells people what he's wearing!

Thanks Jaime. Nice list and commentary.

I like Habit Rouge the juice and the French pronunciation. Oui!

To my knowledge, Route du Vetiver means vetiver root, which is a ingredient of this remarkable fragrance. I guess it explains the earthiness.

Don't think so.
Route = road
Racine = root

Although, the bilingual pun is quite clever and possibly intentional.

INDEED...
1) Un jardin sur le Nil (At the same time I was returning from Aswan trip and Un jardin was being launched, so nice memories)
2) Voleur des Roses (Maybe because I´m in my "rose period" :-) and because it´s a metaphorical way to define something that I do when wear a frag, because does not belong to my nature.

BTW, I don´t wear them.
L'Anarchiste is by far the coolest name i've seen for a scent......i wanna buy it JUST because of the name

i also love the name "Arrogance"

All the Pierre Bourdon talk lately made me think of one of his more obscure ones, the aptly named Full Choke which is the only fragrance I've ever come across that is based on gunpowder. (It's also the most shamelessly phallic bottle I've seen thus far.)

Notes: Gunpowder accord, cardamom, white pepper, melon, pineapple, coriander, jasmine, lily of the valley, Javanese vetiver, teak, Jamaican rum, vanilla, musk, amber.

I generally like short names that I enjoy saying when asked what I'm wearing. Of my wardrobe (current and future), I like the following names the most:

Millesime Imperiale - just sounds rich and lavish.
Happy - makes you smile just saying it.
Lucky You - makes you feel confident when asked
Lucky Number 6 - feel like a Vegas high-roller
Double Black - anything "Double" makes it even more awesome.
Le Male - also makes you feel confident saying it.

Other names I like:
Egoiste
Minotaure
Black Code

Names I hate:
L'Eau D'Issey - I feel weird saying "Issey water" in any of it's incarnations

In general, womens perfumes have better names.

Yatagan...with a name like that,
you know that this fragrance is a Powerhouse. Sounds like something that Atilla the Hun,Gengis khan or Conan the Sophisticated would wear.
