Perfume as adjunct to Natural Scent

I have found that Kouros smells much better when layered with Musk - or if you are sweaty and kind of funky before you put it on. I think it smells best when used in conjunction with or used to mix with your own BO. I noticed this when I applied Kouros and then proceeded to do a workout. Smelled much better afterwards and before the shower!

I find other scents (Dorissima Narziss for instance), work best on me when I am nice and scrubbed clean.

Having lived in the UK and traveled in Europe, I do find the personal hygiene standards on that continent are not the same as in the US (they tolerate BO and being unwashed (to a degree) much better). I find Japan has similar (or even stricter) hygiene standards than the US.

I am concluding that Kouros and scents like ti are really meant to be used as an adjunct to BO.

But --- anyone can list out what works and what does not work with a little personal "funk?"

[And ... I know BN'ers are very open minded to scents and can appreciate scrubbiness as well as a little personal odor depending upon the situation and scent)

Being an overworked student, sometimes I don't get to wash every 24 hours. Then I douse myself with Kiehl's.

Sometimes I wrist or back of the hand test things in the evening. Secretly, I like it that I'm spraying on a day of skin life, and oddly, I always like these testing smells better than clean morning ones.

If I am in Memphis (my home), I always go to the gym on Saturday mornings usually between 8 AM and 10 AM. I very seldom shower before I hit the gym, so usually whatever was my SOTE on Friday night goes with me as well. After I begin to heat up, I usually get faint wiffs of the most amazing things. lol. I do believe that after a time we definitely 'personalize' scents with our own chemistry and smell. I enjoy waking up in the morning and getting notice of the scent I was last wearing from the day before; at this stage, I discover nuances in some frags I never noticed before.

Oddly, Kingdom by Alexander McQueen. Smells absolutely wonderful when I'm sweaty - I learned this from Michael. The same goes for Hermessence: Paprika Brasil by Hermes.

I think that this is the reason and need for "dirty" notes in fragrances. Consider that personal fragrance preceeds the invention of antiperspirants by ages, it has generally been an adjunct of natural BO - until recently, and even now in places like Europe where as you say, being overwashed and deodorized isn't required.

Things have to a point for me that I can't wear deodorant any longer because everything gives me a rash (even deodorant crystal!), so finding fragrance that works well with natural scent has been something I've been experimenting with. What I find is that fragrances without dirty notes will often clash with natural BO, whereas fragrances with cumin, cypriol, etc, blend with it.

I find Bigarade Concentree and Tom Ford for Men to be BO friendly.

Eau d'Hermes is really good for that since it has a strong cumin note.

Musk Kublai Khan would be good for a musk, and so would Kiehl's.

Does this all go back to the grand tradition of French perfumery? Did they ever produce a "clean" scent?
Do these clean scents really originate from American need to always smell clean and fresh?
By putting Jicky, Yatagan, Kourous, MKK, Bigarade Concentree,Kingdom, Eau d'Hermes on freshly scrubbed skin.....are we defeating their purpose?
Considering where ambergris, civet, castoreum, musk, etc. originally come from.......???
