Winners Announced: Bottles Contest #3, The Blue Sky of Spring

Blue Bottles, part 2

From the original 350+ blue bottle suggestions, this installment showcases 88 that I consider light blue. (I realize some may look different in person, but I went with the pictures I found.)

Challenge:

In a private message, name as many of the fragrances in the picture below as possible. For each bottle, score one point for naming the house and one point for naming the fragrance.

Click on the picture below to view it full size.

Process:
PM your list of answers, in the order that they appear in the picture. Please list them by row.
It would help to receive your list of answers all in one private message, but you may submit updates/corrections up until the deadline.

Deadline:
6:01p.m. (CST - US), Sunday, March 9 => 12:01a.m. GMT, March 10

Who Can Play:
Anyone who became a Basenotes member prior to March 2, 2008. Also, I would like to award the first-place prize to someone who has not won it previously.

If you're a newer member, don't be shy!

Judging:
If more than one person has the same number of correct answers, I'll choose a random winner from those finalists.

Prize:

For 1st place: a $50 (USD) gift certificate to one of the following
  • BeautyHabit.com (gift certificate via email)
  • ThePerfumedCourt.com (gift certificate via email)
  • Sephora.com (physical gift card mailed within US)
  • Aedes.com (physical gift card mailed within US)
  • ThePerfumeShoppe.com (physical gift card mailed within Canada?)
  • Another e-tailer of your choice that offers gift certificates via email
  • I'm open to other options for Basenoters outside the U.S. (e.g., Aus Liebe zum Duft)

For 2nd place: a 125ml bottle of Cedre Bleu by Yves Rocher, courtesy of someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

For 3rd place: a 30ml bottle of Sun Moon Stars by Karl Lagerfeld

_________________________________________

Stay tuned for Aqua/Teal bottles, as well as pink, purple, orange/yellow, green, amber/gold, and silver/grey/white. Some of you have asked about sponsoring a color or offering a color-themed prize for one of the contests. I'm not soliciting contributions, but if anyone feels inspired to offer something colorful for a future contest, you're more than welcome to! Someone suggested candles, soaps, candy, stationery, pens, teas, books, cds, or anything else that comes to mind.

I am very grateful to everyone who has contributed to these contests in any way. It's been a lot of fun so far!

You should blates do one for clear bottles, would be really fun!

So purrrdy--like a springtime sky.
Another great picture, Tang. You should have these printed and framed.

Will you publish the answers? There are some bottles on this and other pictures that I'd love to know about.

Well done, and thanks for keeping us entertained this way.

Thanks for reminding me, Sestra! The answers for the previous contest pictures are listed in the other 2 threads, but I do need to post the names for the larger wallpapers I made after each challenge (if those include the bottles you're wondering about).
Luverly luverly luverly - now I have to change my wallpaper again LOL
post #7 of 35
Yay! Another pic! Hmmm... this is going to drive me mad! :P

Sometimes if I have an idea about a fragrance, but I'm not sure, I'll go to the manufacturer's website and look at their bottles. I just learned that I can request free samples from some of these websites! My mailbox is going to smell SO good! Thank you Tang!

Thank you, Tang for another gorgeous picture. Great job, as usual

Free samples! I'd ask you to post your website finds, but I don't want too many clues given away. Maybe after the contest is finished.

I wonder if Snapfish would let me make a calendar out of these....

tang, your work is beautiful as ever!

Bravissima Tang - gorgeous!

Tang, another challenge. And I can't resist such a beautiful thing! Well, I might give it a try...if I can find the time.

I've received answers from 2 players so far.

Would more people play if the timeframe was longer than 1 week? Or is that long enough to get as frustrated as yer gonna git?

One week is enough to give me suspense, thank you.

So gorgeous and so much fun

Thank you again Tang!!!!!
I encourage more participants/readers to submit their lists of answers, please! To make Tang feel better that the gorgeous and timetaking job she has done is being appreciated. It is not the matter of who wins/loses, it is a great learning experience and we all benefit from it. It is not like you are making yourself a laughing-stock on national TV, right? And also in order for her not to get discouraged while making the displays of Yellow, Orange, Aqua, Purple, Pink, White and Gold and Silver bottles (believe me, I know what it is like! to feel discouraged it is! ).

Please!

Thank you for the pep talk, Twolf!

Two more joined in last night, so now there is a total of four. I can't say how close the race is at this point, because I haven't updated the tally yet.

Some of you might guess that I'll be obsessive/compulsive enough to finish all the colors no matter what -- having the eyecandy on my desktop is worth it. However, I would like to know if I can tweak anything about the contest portion to make it better.
Tang, you shouldn't feel bad and discouraged. Just because some of us don't enter the contest doesn't mean we don't appreciate the work you do ... I guess I can only speak for myself, but I adore the pictures and have saved each and every one of them so far. I don't do very well in ID-ing and don't have much luck in finding them, so there's not really any sense in turning in only a partial list ... but you shouldn't take that personal.

Oh, I'm not discouraged at all! The first bottle contest was an afterthought to begin with, a way to spread the insanity. I make these collages because I like them, and it only makes sense to share them here with kindred spirits. The contests are more of an icing-on-the-cake thing, to make things interesting.

I'm not looking for a flood of participants, but if there are a couple of minor things holding any potential players back, that's what I'd like to know about.

Ok, contest update: still 4 players, and this may drive the 4 of you insane, but there is about a 5-bottle difference between each of you and the next person.
Yeah I'm in... my list is very empty though coz I'm a bit "bizzy" (loving Taolady's lingo!). I don't really expect that I'll do very well - I just hope I remember to submit it on time!

Edit:
Just sent in my answers and feeling a little stuck but oh wells it was fun

Five players! And 18 hours left from the time of this post.

Good luck!
Err... wasn't it 18 hours and 15 minutes just over 12 hours ago before that post? Or has the deadline extended?

Oops... my more recent post was the correct one. Sorry about that.

So, it's actually 8 hours and 5 minutes from the time of THIS post.

Announcing the Winners!

Once again, you all did a fantastic job. With the combined effort of only 6 players this time, 86 out of 88 bottles were identified. Very impressive!

The results:
(Total points possible, 176)

  • 1st place: new puzzler an_oud_girl, with 163 points.
  • 2nd place: alba, with 157 points, including sole identification of Lorenzo de Medici Caterina.
  • 3rd place: anamari, with 136 points, including sole identification of Captain by Molyneux and Angelica by Jacques Philippe.

The three of you will be contacted regarding your prizes. :bounce: Congratulations! 4th, 5th, and 6th place were all basically tied, and not too far behind anamari.
Notable finds:
  • MFfan310 had the only correct answer for Nicole Farhi Bleu Azur.
  • an_oud_girl and alba correctly identified Jean Arthes Sur un Nuage.
  • an_oud_girl and smellyliquid were the only ones to find the Odeon bottles.
  • jillsy and smellyliquid gave me the answer I was looking for on the Jaguar bottle.

You all deserve a round of applause! Thank you very much for playing along. (Look for another chance to play at the beginning of April.)

These contests are such fun. But for me sort of like the Olympics? Or maybe a Martial Arts competition? I go to watch the Big Guys compete!! (And learn a few things.)

Some loose ends:

From January: The names for the larger red bottles wallpaper have been posted at the end of this thread:

From Feburary: The names for the larger dark blue bottles wallpaper have been posted at the end of this thread:

These were the non-contest images I had posted later. Sorry for the clutter of all these threads!
