I'm new to the community and would like to see what your opinions are. Please, go right ahead and list them.

Not to sound rude, but try the search function buddy.
And TBH, first thing I thought when I read this was 'market research'

Quite right my friend, the search function is one of the most underutilized features on Basenotes.

Obviously, we like to discuss a variety of fragrance and non-fragrance topics here.

What gets me though is the attitude of some, mostly newer, members that we are just a big brainiac machine - you put in your request, we mash it around and mindlessly spit out pertinent answers.

This question has been asked and answered numerous times.

Before someone starts a new thread, Basenotes prompts you to see if there have been similar topics in the past. This is an important step that far too many people skip.

Oh and by the way, 1979213, Welcome to Basenotes.

Many questions here on Basenotes may usefully, and appropriately, be answered with the refrain, "Use the search function." I do, however, think that some questions warrant revisiting from time to time. I have seen many "top five lists" in the archive, but I occasionally want to know whether members have reconsidered their lists.

Very true. Especially with new seasons rolling around, I know I will be switching my must haves.

Maybe we can do a monthly top 5 thread on the 15th of each month or possibly every 3 months? And have the answers tailored to that particular month? That way the top 5 in December would be different than that of July.

Agreed. Its a discussion forum first and an archive second. As a newbie here I've used the search function to peruse great moments in Basenotes history, but I have also started "repeat" threads because I wanted up to date opinions--it's fast fashion after all

The Naive Noob's Current Top 5:

John Varvatos
Guerlain Vetiver
Burberry London
Kiton Black

That's an awesome idea man. Maybe start a top 5 list for each month and it would become a big thing!

Somebody get on that!

I'd agree - given it is not "market research". A person "five favorite scents" probably will (should) change with time. It's good, however, to be aware of the search function.
My top five change as I experience new fragrances, it's very difficult because there's so many I really like. But here it goes:

Creed's Milliseme Imperiale
Serge Luten's Ambre Sultan
Montale's Aoud Damascus
Penhaligon's Racquets
Frederick Malle's Noir Epices

Bond No.9 Bleecker Street
Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur
Montale Black Aoud
Amouage Arcus
Creed Millesime Imperial

Come to think of it, in my top 15 there is only one Non-Niche, and that would be Victoria's Secret Very Sexy For Him.

Mea culpa.

I just PMed him to apologize for my inappropriate comments.

It was a general comment and I did not mean to direct anything at him personally - but, you are right, that is what I did.

So, my top five today are:

Vintage Tabarome
Heritage
Chanel Pour Monsieur (1955)
Kolnisch Juchten
Czech & Speake No. 88

2. Mazzolari Lui
3. Guerlain Heritage
4. L'Artisan Dzing
5. Frank No 2
5. Parfums Delrae Eau Illuminee

oops? Was that six? Well, I'll be ....

You are a thoughtful poster. Read in context, your comment was not entirely out of place.

My current Top Five are as follows:

Heritage
Domenico Caraceni
C & S 88
BdP
Rose 31

(As you can see, I'm currently drawn to fragrances with a prominent rose note, perhaps owing to recent discussions about roses.)
I guess it can't hurt. I remember posting in a thread similar to this only a few weeks ago, and guess what? It changed. As of today:

Guerlain Mitsouko
Maxim's Pour Homme
Annick Goutal Sables
Boucheron Jaipur
Geir

The only "survivors" are Sables and Geir.

For today, this is surprisingly easy to answer:

Jean Patou PH by Jean Patou
Cuir d'Oranger by Miller Harris
Blenheim Bouquet by Penhaligon
Cuba by Czech and Speke
Himalaya by Creed.

Why these? Because I've run out of them, damn it!!

Cheers,

Mario

That's only "five" if you use the metric system...
I like looking back on my previous top 5 and seeing how it changed.

Now: Domenico Carraceni
Black Aoud
Rose 31
L'Air du Desert Morocain
Jicky EdP
Arome 3 and yes, I'm using the metric system.... :-)
It is hard enough just to list five which is near impossible so these will not be in order as ranking them would be impossible for me.

Black Aoud

Kiton Men

Un Jardin en Mediterranee

Tam Dao

Tie (Jazz, Kouros, equipage, et al)
I have a tough time naming a top 5 and the list is certainly susceptable (sp?) to change but here it goes. Note: of the ones listed they are in no particular order with the exception of my number one.

Creed - Vintage Tabarome
Montale - Black Aoud
Creed - Royal English Leather
Hermes - Eau D'Orange Verte
Serge Lutens - Fumerie Turque

And two others that don't clear the top five but are certinly within top 10 are Creed - Acier Aluminium and L'artisan - Dzongkha

As you can see I am a big fan of the heavy stuff, with the exception of the hermes
post #48 of 117
My favorites are as follows:

Narciso Rodriguez For Him
2Man
Fumerie Turque
Creed Virgin Island Water
Chez Bond

My aunt keeps asking me which one is my #1, and I always reply that it would be like trying to figure out "which one of your children is your favourite". So in no particular order (the short list):

Tauer's L'Air du Desert Marocain
Montale's Black Aoud
Malle's Musc Ravageur
PG's Bois de Copaiba
Tauer's Orris
I realize that this thread is four months old (and was not well received at the time, clearly), but b/c I'm a newb on BN I'll go for it. Plus, it's helping me actually think of the 5:

I'm still collecting and testing, so the list keeps changing:

Z Zegna Extreme by Ermenegildo Zegna
Oud Wood by Tom Ford
Les Nuits d'Hadrien by Annick Goutal
Blu Mediterraneo Fico di Amalfi by Acqua di Parma (might lose out to another fig fragrance soon, we'll see ...)
