I can’t get enough of this prose syrup, and yet to me such voluptuous descriptions don’t actually evoke green fruit or incinerated candy. Instead they inspire more attenuated fantasies about acquiring perfume, holding in my hand a substance that could evoke storms, sunshine clouds or smoldering black candy goo. Let’s face it: I am reading about smelling something that might remind me of life. If there’s a greater remove you can achieve from visceral human experience, I don’t know it." ..... (neither do I -most of the time !
