Blue Bottles, part 3

This group of bottles did not want to cooperate!

From the original 350+ blue bottle suggestions, this installment showcases 90 that I consider turquoise or aqua blue. After 3 collages, there are still over a hundred blue bottles I have not used. C'est la vie.

Challenge:

In a private message, name as many of the fragrances in the picture below as possible. For each bottle, score one point for naming the house and one point for naming the fragrance.

Click on the picture below to view it full size.

  • If your browser resizes the picture to fit your window, the bottles will not be as easy to see.
  • Give as much detail as you can (gender, special editions, etc.).
  • There may be clues in this thread, as well as search suggestions in the other bottle contest threads linked below.

Process:
PM your list of answers, in the order that they appear in the picture. Please list them by row.
It would help to receive your list of answers all in one private message, but you may submit updates/corrections up until the deadline.

If you submit updates, please use some indicator of which answers have been added or changed (bold, asterisk, etc.).

Deadline:
6:01p.m. (CST - US), Wednesday, April 16 => 12:01a.m. GMT, April 17

Who Can Play:
Anyone who became a Basenotes member prior to April 7, 2008. Also, I would like to award the first-place prize to someone who has not won it previously.

I try to include a few obscure bottles, but don't let that discourage you from joining in!

Judging:
If more than one person has the same number of correct answers, I'll choose a random winner from those finalists.

Prize:

For 1st place: a $50 (USD) gift certificate to one of the following
  • BeautyHabit.com (gift certificate via email)
  • ThePerfumedCourt.com (gift certificate via email)
  • Sephora.com (gift certificate via email)
  • ThePerfumeShoppe.com (physical gift card mailed within Canada?)
  • Another e-tailer of your choice that offers gift certificates via email
  • I'm open to other options for Basenoters outside the U.S. (e.g., Aus Liebe zum Duft)

For 2nd place: a Wallflowers Continuous Fragrance warmer, with refill bulbs from Bath & Body Works, generously provided by anamari.

For 3rd place: a copy of the book A Passion for Perfume by Jo Glanville-Blackburn, with color photographs by Claire Richardson.

Some of you have asked about sponsoring a color or offering a color-themed prize for one of the contests. I'm not soliciting contributions, but if anyone feels inspired to offer something colorful for a future contest, you're more than welcome to! Someone suggested candles, soaps, candy, stationery, pens, teas, books, cds, or anything else that comes to mind.

I am very grateful to everyone who has contributed to these contests in any way. It's been a lot of fun so far!

Tang,

This contest is really hard. My eyeballs are burning, and my readers are sliding down to the end of my nose...not to mention my butt is numb from sitting at the computer for so long! I'm obsessed with finding these obscure bottles!

But, it IS fun!

I'm sorry! I get some of the burning eyeballs effect when I'm searching for bottle pictures myself. I've said this before a couple of times, but knowing how obsessive-compulsive I can be, I'm a little relieved to be on this side of the contest.

Best of luck, everyone! It's an honor to have you playing.

Ok, so I just started looking today but it seems like I've been at it for hours. This is a toughie!!
My butt hurts and I'm going to bed, as Scarlett, tomorrow is another day.

I've never tried to do the other "bottle challenge's"... this collection is so obscure! I'm having a ball, even though it's tough. I would like to encourage others to give it a go! I'm learning so much with every click!!!
I am becoming absolutely obsessed and frustrated! I am still missing about a dozen names...and something tells me these are things I "should' know...AAAAAAAARGHHHH

The competitors who have sent their answers in have done an amazing job -- well done!

But with some bottles as yet unnamed, there is still plenty of room for others to step up to the challenge. (Ms. Zibeline, I will expect your answers on my desk by the end of class! )
Oh drat I forgot to complete my answers. Got less than 20 and didn't send em in. But I'm loving this new aqua one the most! Turquoise is my fave colour

Good luck everyone who entered!

Last week I walked into Sephora and felt very at ease for the very first time. Most of what I saw was familiar! I recognized bottles and names and had ideas for what I wanted to try! I wasn't completely overwhelmed!

Thank you Tang!!!

Announcing the Winners!

With the combined effort of only 6 players again, 87 out of 90 bottles were identified. Very impressive!

First, the unintentional trick question:
Row 6, Item 13: This square bottle with frosted glass top is actually a Christiane Celle Calypso Marine votive candle with box, which was correctly identified by MFfan310, Dimitri, Zibeline, and an_oud_girl. Can't fool you guys!

The results:
(Total points possible, 180)
  • 1st place winner: Dimitri, with 166 points, including the sole identification of Estivalia (Row 2, Bottle 11).
  • 2nd place winner: Zibeline, with 162 points, including joint identification with an_oud_girl of the weird peacock perfume bottle.
  • 3rd place winner: Anamari, with 150 points, including sole identification of Coty Aspen Sensation (Row 3, Bottle 9)

The three of you will be contacted regarding your prizes (when I can get a message in edgewise). :bounce: Congratulations!

Honorable mentions:
  • MFfan310, who, for the last 3 contests, has named a majority of the bottles within 3-4 hours of the contest being posted!
  • Last month's winner an_oud_girl, who played again just for fun
  • ubuandibeme, for sole identification of Bogner (Row 5, Bottle 5)

For all the remarks of how tough this one was, only 3 bottles remained unidentified at the end:
  • Row 4, Bottle 12: Killer Loop for men
  • Row 5, Bottle 1: Giorgio Valenti, Blue Diva
  • Row 7, Bottle 2: Tan Guidicelli Pluie d'Ete

Many thanks to those who played and those who helped!

The answers:

Wow!

I am amazed at how much I learned about fragrances (and search engines) by participating in this contest. There is so much to explore out there that I feel I have barely scraped the surface of fragrances and their packaging. Thanks Tang for the challenge and it was challenging.

And when I finally found the "weird peacock perfume bottle" I instantly rewarded myself by buying it. It should be very interesting, indeed. (Fortunately it was quite a bargain)

Thanks

Dimitri, Zibeline & Anamari ~ HUGE CONGRATS! This contest was grueling, you all amaze me!

Tang, you amaze me too!

Zibeline-- I'm curious to know what you think of the peacock fragrance. That is one gorgeous bottle for a very reasonable price. It was one of the last ones I found. I tried googling things like "peacock bottle" with "perfume" for articles (then got distracted reading unrelated articles). I also pored over hundreds of images of "peacock bottle(s)" in Google images. Finally, I turned to Google shopping and half-heartedly typed, "peacock perfume." Whoa! You gotta be kidding me! Just like that, sheesh.
Yay! Thanks so much Tang!
Congrats to all the tough competition... Zibeline, it looks as if you were just a hair away from me all the way! That weird peacock bottle had me up late nights!! Well done to you and an_oud_girl!

This was an amazing (and at times, REALLY frustrating) challenge... I dreamed 2 nights solid of blue bottles and aqua glass! At the end, I had missed 7 (Row 6 in particular was the killer for me).

Thanks again Tang - it was a brilliant comp and a huge learning experience!
Wow congrats everyone! Thanks again Tang, I'm loving these pics
post #28 of 29
Congratulations everyone!~ I found this one particularly grueling and challenging but as everyone says you feel like you hit pay dirt when you strike gold and find that elusive bottle you've been looking for. It was loads of fun !!
Congrats tp you too, Anamari and Dmitri. Amamari you are so right over the thrill of finding an elusive bottle and frequently the ones I was certain I knew were the most obscure.

As for that weird peacock bottle, I can't wait to get my bottle, I hope the juice is measures up to that feathery bottle.
