SOTD Friday 18th April

Lalique
Eau de Lalique
(2003)
Emile Coopermann

Top Notes: Mandarin, Cardamom, Citron, Bergamot, Dill
Middle Notes: Freesia, Hibiscus, Cinnamon
Base Notes: Amyris Wood, Sandalwood, Benzoin, White Musk, Guaiac Wood
A bright, floral eau de cologne style fragrance with woody-musky base notes and a novel green note, dill.
This lasts a long time and the drydown is very smooth. Also, reapplication is not a problem, as it can be with many eaux de cologne.

Had an impromptu date that went very well. I was wearing a sample of the boring-a$$ Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme. I got an enthusiastic compliment anyway. I begrudgingly accepted it.

Ungaro III for another rainy day

Speaking on Duchaufour, I tested yesterday Sienne l'hiver and found some similarities with the drydown of Dzongka: both stunning scents indeed, so I bet too we will see something stunning soon from L'artisan.

Seems the server's always bizzy and I have to practice patience here...think Grant is trying to get our 'drobes organized http://community.basenotes.net/showt...wpost&t=208938...and then there was that piece in the Style Section of the NYTimes yesterday (featuring the fabulous Chaya and the equally fabulous BaseNotes!!) ...http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/17/fa...html?ref=style...and I'm sure that caused MOLTO hits on the site. For better and worse....Nothing succeeds like success.

Supposed to be HOTHOTHOT today....so maybe Tabaróme Millésime....tobacco, ginger...bergamot. Rully swell!!

Before the servers crash today I am wearing:

Frederic Malle Bigarade Concentree

Now this was what a citrus grove smelled like growing up in South Florida. Another amazing scent memory evoked on a beautiful spring day.

Day Five of my top five challenge continues with another
Dry Woods fragrance my favorite Russian (birch tar) leather.

The best description I found came from our own Galamb_Borong:
"The top notes open with an copal-myrrh note, but the fragrance quickly changes
into a complex leather with civet, patchouli, birch tar and possibly hints of castoreum,
iris and something that lightens the blend ( a tiny bit of something like sweet orange? )
This is a rich, complex leather; the base notes remind me simultaneously
of Givenchy Gentleman and Creed's Cuir de Russie."

Today is my birthday and I'm wearing L'Artisan's funky but defunct Vetiver. All the marketing studies suggest that it would be folly to make either of us ever again.
And it's my 200th post, I think, which for shy persons is no small thing.

Happy birthday, Strollyourlobster!!! Congrats also on your 200th post. Many happy returns of the day (and maybe L'artisan's Vetiver wasn't the best idea, but we BNers are sure glad YOU'RE around)!

I have been having an intense craving for cardamom lately, and finally did something about it -- bought a cardamom single note perfume from Serena. It's perfect, especially for layering.

Today I'm wearing Ava Luxe Cardamom layered with Annick Goutal Chevrefeuille. I'm finding it incredibly satisfying... the nosmic (is that a word? Figure it must be, based on "anosmic"! ) equivalent of scratching an itch!
