Suggest a scent for an evening event/party

So it's final university year, and so many graduation parties nowadays, but there's this main, formal event taking place on the 1st of May. I've tried my outfit, and I think this is the best look I have ever done. The outfit for the event brings a few traditional elements, a few modern ones and puts them together.

Now for the interesting stuff. What fragrance to wear? I could smell modern or old, really doesn't matter since the theme is a bit mixed anyway. The crowd is young, all in early twenties. Here are the options:

Terre d'Hermes
Habit Rouge
Diptyque L'ombre dans L'eau
Annick Goutal Sables
Dior Homme
Caron Pour Un Homme
Parfum d'Habit
Cartier Declaration

For a while I thought Dior Homme is the most suitable choice. It feels like the most "stylish" of those and would portray the kind of metrosexual image that I want. It would have been an easy choice IMO, but then I finished my sample. Feel free to suggest DH though, I could get me a sample or a small bottle soon. Whatever I'm going to wear, I *will* over apply. Of the guys who will wear perfume, 50% will be wearing Desire and 49% will wear whatever the newest Hugo is, and I wouldn't be particularly happy if any of that overpowered my scent. I want to stand out, be loud and (very) detectable in this mess. This is very important criteria in choosing the scent. Please note that "over apply" is relative. For example, over applying Sables means going for 5 sprays, over applying Diptyque is 10+.

It's an evening event. There could be a bit of dancing and sweating, especially that the weather is not particularly cool this time of the year in Cairo. This makes me less inclined to the heavy stuff, namely Sables and Habit Rouge. But the plus of wearing Sables is that it would make me feel very comfortable and intrigue people to ask all night, and for Habit Rouge is that it puts me in the most confident state ever.

Terre d'Hermes and Declaration are in the same category for me. I like the Hermes more, it has better longevity and I can detect a drop from five meters away, but Declaration has a special and unique feel to it too.

Parfum d'Habit is in a category of its own. It is quite strange, because even though sometimes I think this is my number one fragrance, and there is no time that I would not want to smell this on me, I always find myself reluctant to wear it. I spray it at my arms often for personal enjoyment. Maybe I think this is just too good to go out with. I'm really not sure (I think this needs a thread )

Anyway, please suggest one of the scents in the list above. Many thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot, it seems Dior Homme is the easy winner here.

Habit Rouge without a doubt.

Dior Homme or Terre d'Hermes - though I would favor Dior

A fourth for Declaration and a second for Habit Rouge, Dior Homme is way too femme.

Habit Rouge. I will never be without this beauty.

Dior Homme: 7
Declaration: 4
Habit Rouge: 3
Terre d'Hermes: 3

Deduct 2 points from Dior Homme for being not available:

Dior Homme: 5
Declaration: 4
Habit Rouge: 3
Terre d'Hermes: 3

.. and it still stands as the winner with 5 points. Will go look for a sample very soon, otherwise it's time to put Declaration to work.

Usually the masculinity of a fragrance is a big issue for me, but if the smell is as good as Dior Homme, I don't mind smelling a bit feminine.

Exactly what I wanted to say! They are the best choices.

I have the same idea about Dior Homme, it is reminiscent of feminine thing like lipsticks! And this is the main reason that it hasn't became my signature scent!
But I'm sure you admit its elegant beauty even as a unisex or feminine scent which is wore by a young man.

If you wanbt to stand out in a modern way bathe in Declaration
If you wanbt to stand out in a vintage way bathe in Habit Rouge

These are for sure the best choices you can do.

Mostapha, i would wear DIOR HOMME
Declaration, no doubt....while dior homme makes you feel luxurious, its projection is quite different. whereas declaration does both effortlessly.. pure class.

Mostapha i don“t know:

Diptyque L'ombre dans L'eau
Annick Goutal Sables
Caron Pour Un Homme
Parfum d'Hab
Cartier Declaration

which i know:

Terre d'Hermes
Habit Rouge
Dior Homme

From the 3 i would choose TERRE. But i really want to know how declaration is and could choose it over terre if i like it too. You said:

So declaration is not so intensive like terre ?

I would go with Cartier of Habit Rouge. Hermes is too... fresh maybe. It's classy but I would choose something heavy for such event.

Never thought about that before. Wow. Habit Rouge with Declaration maybe? It gives me a tingle just thinking about it.

Habit Rouge.

....although the HR / Declaration layer has me intrigued. 4 sprays of Dec for freshness and sharpness, 2 of HR just to smooth and sweeten things a little. Give it a try before the big night!

Let us know what you go for.

I went with Declaration on skin and hair, and Habit Rouge on the inside of shirt and jacket, and the result was very interesting. Declaration dominated and was more detectable till the next morning, while Habit Rouge stayed in the background with only a whiff every now and then, mixing with the Cartier to give me one of my favorite scent experiences so far. The combination was loud and very detectable all night, and the heat helped very much to bring the best out of Declaration. It was very enjoyable and I will certainly do it again.

Thank you all for the suggestions, this thread introduced me to a great combination of two great scents. If you got those two fragrances, try them together.
