Your top 3 everyday, workhorse fragrances.

Thread Starter
What NOT to post:
-Your classic favorites that are too dated for you to wear out. I'm looking at you Guerlain Monsieur.
-Strange, avante garde scents that you enjoy, but won't wear out. This applies to anything involving notes of industrial waste. I'm looking at you CdG Garage.
-More than 3 choices.
-Frags that you feel are too pricey to be worn everyday. I'm looking at you Le Labo. What, you're charging me $10 for just looking at you?
-Overly formal, special occasion frags...unless you have a special occasion every day...in which case I question how special the occasion is.
-Great frags you won't wear because they are/were too common. I'm looking at you Xeryus Givenchy. I've got my eye on you too, Cool Water.

Nothing in my collection is too dated, strange, occasion-specific or common for me to wear out in public.

Three top inexpensive workhorse fragrances are Jean Pascal, Azzaro Pour Homme and 1776 Russian Leather.

If you allowed more than three, I would have added Bogart Pour Homme and Richard James EdT.

I travel for work every week, so unfortunately I do not have my entire wardrobe always at my disposal. So my top 3 everday workhorse fragrances lately have been:

Creed Green Irish Tweed
Burberry London for Men
Prada Amber pour Homme

Plus I rotate other fragrances in/out.
I would recommend:
Armani Eau Pour Homme (citrus)
Shiseido Basala (spicy/woody)
Chanel Egoiste (oriental)

These should cover a variety of weather conditions (warm to cool) and ocassions (from very conservative, to all-around, to a little more daring/relaxed); in the same order listed. They comply with all your conditions.
If you allow a few more in, there's a lot more to enjoy!

I define workhorse (in terms of scents) as something that you can wear everyday for just about any type of situation. Going by that definition, my choices would be...

AdP Colonia Assoluta
Montana Parfum D'Homme (red box)
Creed Original Vetiver
I have more than three, but I'll say:

summer: AdP Colonia
winter: warm Creeds (Baie de Genievre, Orange Spice, Bois du Portugal). Creeds are excellent workhorses.
and to throw in a designer frag: Burberry London
post #12 of 150
AdP Colonia Assoluta
GIT
Loewe Pour Homme
I tend to wear what I'm learning about. Right now I'm wearing lots of rose scents, mostly from samples. As with music it's often not so much what I most like but what I'm interested in that I listen to. But among the ones that I come back to when I just want something good and comfortable are L'Air du Desert Marocain, Tuscany, Rive Gauche pour Homme and, for my second number three, Lorenzo Villoresi Uomo.
Creed:

Green Irish Tweed
Original Vetiver
Vetiver '48.
AdP Colonia
Guerlain Vetiver, and others
Blenheim Bouquet
I don't consider any of my frags.either dated, or too expensive to wear daily, after all you only get one ticket on this ride!
Creed GIT
Guerlain Vetiver vintage
Safari
AdP Colonia, Burberry London and YSL Rive Gauche. If I had to choose only one frag to wear for the rest of my life it would be AdP Colonia.
Terre d'Hermes
Live Jazz
Nautica Voyage

I don't own bottles of some of the things I'm testing...yet, so I chose not to list them,
post #19 of 150
ummmm..if i wear the same fragrance more than once every two weeks thats a rarity.....

but the most common --- weekends --musc ravageur is a must

Creed MI/OV

and lately.....Escada Magnetism.
Burberry London, first and foremost. So damn easy to wear, always gets compliments. This fragrance literally just makes me feel good.

Escada Magnetism gets a vote from me, too! It's unique, easy to find for cheap, and to me, smells the best as a heavy hitter in very cold weather or lightly applied in strong dry heat. Note the "lightly applied."

Third is a tie between Baldessarini Ambre and John Varvatos. Sometimes I just don't want to smell like a drunk smoker (Ambre) and sometimes I don't want to smell like a sweet fruit walking in one leather loafer (Varvatos). That being said, I love them both! Go figure.

Adolfo Dominiguez - agua fresca
Paco - XS
CK - be/Dior - Higher
Millesime Imperial, Villoresi's Uomo and L'Homme de Coeur.

I feel bad calling the latter two workhorses since I love both dearly. But I wear both alot, so I guess I have to include them here.

About BdP -- while pricey, it's widely available, so you can use every day without fear of running out of anything but funds.

And a hearty "amen" to those who listed Versace L'Homme -- a true 80's classic, indeed.

My top three, that I actually wear (in no particular order):

  • Narciso Rodriguez for Him - the easiest musk for me to wear in public. And I love that violet leaf opener!
  • Creed Original Vetiver - delivers the sophistication that my other two choices may lack. Very, very nice.
  • Fou d'Absinthe - this one seems so easy and laid back. It's an effortless wear, unlike many other fragrances I own.

1. Ditto on the Agua Fresca. Sharp opening, but easy to wear nonetheless. Not too good longevity though.
2. Bulgari Aqua - my office scent
3. D&G PH

Diff types of scents, although there are only 2 seasons here in Manila : (1) hot and sticky and (2) wet and sticky hehe.
So for hot and stickys it's a toss-up between AD Agua Fresca and Bulgari, on wet and sticky days, D&G's just a cozy choice.

Thanks for the replies, I've seen AdP Colonia on sale here at one of the better department stores, I'll be heading there later to test it (crap...I just re-applied AD...hope that doesn't ruin it for me)
Terre d'Hermes
L'eau par Kenzo
Platinum Egoiste
Recently my staples have been...

Caron 3rd Man
Hammam Bouquet
Platinum Egoiste
These 3 are getting lots of wears recently:

Tauer LaDDM
Frederic Malle Geranium Pour Monsieur
Diptyque Tam Dao
Carven Homme
Carlo Corinto
Chevignon
RL Polo Double Black
Bvlgari PH Soir
Terre d'Hermes

For colder weather I would substitute Burberry London for one of these.
Green Irish Tweed
Original Vetiver
Guerlain Vetiver
Wall street
Riverside drive
dolce light blue

I will add GIT, it will be my christmas present. I have a pricey collection and can't justify the GIT at this time. I never buy creed online so that will be another 250$
post #58 of 150
As of right now (hot as hell where I live).

1. GIT
2. Chrome
3. Chanel AHS

I find myself deciding between these three as my normal "day routine" favorites.
Speaking strictly about my utmost recent every-day, informal, work-/day- wear rotation, yet in no particular order or rating:

Guerlain Vetiver
Gucci Envy
Versace Blue Jeans
I rotate scents so much that I very seldom wear the same one more than once a week. I am now down to a total of 28 bottles in my regular rotation. Several others are up for sale.

If forced to name 3 summer workhorses:

Creed Silver Mt. Water, Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme and Terre d'Hermes

If forced to name 3 cool weather workhorses:

Dior Homme, John Varvatos and maybe Rochas Man
