Is Ralph Lauren Romance worth the Money, Time and Effort ?

I suppose I feel a crave because before Basenotes, I looked up to the Ralph Lauren's of the world as though they were the Savior's of the Fragarence world. Romance seemed out of my league.

Or , I'm getting edgy because of my lack of satisfaction. My Varavatos has poor longevity, Black Code does the same, Brit turns spicy and I don't want to "offend" during the daytime, Polo Blue is tired, Rive Gauche seems strong and maybe inappropriate....There are countless others I have that don't wear very well, aside from my KC New York, Bvlgari Homme or Brit.....but I want a decent variety and something unoffensive for daytime ( and casual).

So anyways, I've located a place that is selling Romance 30 ml for $20 Cdn ( about the same as Am dollars as well).

My only concern, is the bashing its taken in its reviews. Pickle juice and urine ? I certainly don't want to smell like that ! I don't want a headache either. Is there anyone that can convince me this will work out for me. I've smelled it on a card, and it seemed OK ...but hard to tell ( I sprayed too many others on my arms to use them).

If you like Romance and the way it smells on you - wear it. If you don't, well...then don't.

It's actually very simple.

Don't let what we think (or our reviews) of it influence your nose and what you like.

But before you do, ask yourself if you REALLY REALLY like the way it smells - and that you aren't buying it because it is a designer Ralph Lauren fragrance, the bottle, the marketing, who it should appeal to, who it makes you smell like, blah blah blah. Buying it for these reasons is just a wrong idea. Buy it because it smells good to your nose and makes you feel good. Otherwise, spend your money on a scent that does this.

Good luck!

I personally would buy Romance Silver, but you should compare those 2 and decide.

You definitely need to smell it on yourself first, not just a card, before you can make an informed decision. So I would suggest that as your next step.

I personally would choose Romance Silver over Romance - but then again, I also would choose many other fragrances over those two.

There are many "casual" fragrances on the market, so I would suggest sampling a variety. If you end up liking and purchasing Romance, that is great. If not, I am sure you will be able to find another suitable fragrance.

Good luck!

Both Romance & Romance Silver are in enough department stores, so they should be easy to find. I would go out and test it repeatedly...

Romance Silver was my first real cologne purchase and I still have a place for it in my wardrobe. I prefer it quite a bit over the original Romance. Romance is more musky, Silver is more spicy. Let us know what you decide.

I find Romance to be a "clean musk." Seems like an oxymoron, but it's a musk with aquatic qualities. Casual and safe. I have received compliments wearing it.

I do find it a little "simple," but, sometimes, simplicity is what I want.

I like to wear it on hot summer days. I'll try it in spring weather tomorrow; I haven't worn it since last summer.

I loved Romance when it came out. Now I am bored, and wll not buy it again. I want to test Romance Silver as I hear it is better. At the same time, many people like Romance on me and ask me what it is. Many women complimented and some followed me. I guess it's a less widespread take on AdG. everybody likes it, though it may be boring for the wearer.

Buy Romance Silver, it's a hell of a lot better than Romance, you're pretty much wasting your time with Romance, though you should smell it first because everyone has different tastes so you may still like it.

This is a completely unbiased view provided by a quality evaluator of scents, rather than someone called RomanceSilver.

Try both of them out, and decide on the one that you prefer.

Thanks guys, I'll have to try it out on the skin. It sounds strange, but I do get influenced by the marketing, packaging, name and bottle of a frag. when I think about purchasing it. Thanks for the advice...even the biased ones ; )
And I may decide on Blue Label from Givenchy. It's getting warmer, and I think it may be a good fit.

To answer the title thread, no. However as mikeperez23 said, don't listen to us and go with how you feel about the fragrance and that is all that matters. I use to think it was alright and still think it has some merit but for me, it is not bottle worthy but that doesn't mean it is not bottle worthy for you.

Oh boy. In my opinion it's a horrible scent. One that I am always armed to respond with whenever someone posts a "worst fragrance you have ever smelled" thread (aren't we due for one soon?).

Pickle Juice & Urine. That about sums it up for me.
