Yep, you do need to rent this one! It's a fabulous story rooted in the reality/and-or/dysfunction/love that is 'family'...you won't be disappointed!

The Dark Knight.

I watch it for the Joker though, not the Batman
post #83 of 113
I watch lots of films and I quite happily watch many of them several times over. And I'm a sucker for the sentimental traditions of having certain films and musicals on TV at certain times of the year.

The ones below are my true obsessive, must-watch films. They're the ones I've seen so many times I've lost count (or they're heading that way, if new, like the absolutely stunning digital anime Vexille)

The Dark Crystal (went to see it in the cinema when it was released; was mesmerised)
Labyrinth
Nightmare Before Christmas
The Fifth Element (I also listen to the sound track a lot)
Princess Mononoke (ditto about sound track)
Spirited Away (ditto about sound track)
Matrix (ditto about sound track)
Vexille (ditto about sound track)
The Lord of the Rings (ditto about sound track)
Howl's Moving Castle
My Neighbour Totoro
Planes, trains and automobiles
Dirty, rotten scoundrels
The Man With Two Brains
Amadeus
Spaceballs
Alien, Aliens
Blade Runner
All Star Trek Films
Galaxy Quest
Bicentennial Man
The Bridges of Madison County
You've got mail
Amelie
Shakespeare In Love
... and feature-lenght Columbo episodes. I love that character.

Films that I WOULD watch over and over again, except that they break my heart and I can only stand them every now and then:

Pan's Labyrinth
Grave of the Fireflies
Like Water For Chocolate

P.S. I also really like "The Family Man", but have only seen it twice, so it doesn't count on the obsessions list. And "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" is absolutely excellent, but I have only managed to see it the one time. Have the book. Very good.

Anything with Seth Rogen in (he makes me melt) and tonnes more that I can't think of right now.

My list is quite eclectic, convoluted and includes a range of oddball choices, but I am indeed something of a movie buff, apart from a rabid fragrance collector.

First, here is a list of films which would ALL easily take the number ones spot, since they are and will remain absolute favorites of mine:

Then, there are also the list of films which did not take up the top spot, but did certainly come close:
