*IF* you had $1500 to build your wardrobe all over again from scratch... *PLAY!*

THE SCENARIO: Your entire fragrance wardrobe has been stolen by a g-string clad lunatic who drove into your living room in her pink Corvette. After taking all of your beloved fragrances, she drives away in a frenzy while screaming "MEIN! MEIN! IT'S ALL MEIN!" Luckily, your insurance company has offered to repair your torn-down wall AND also gave you $1500 to buy full bottles of cologne, and only full bottles..... You think to yourself "Hell, maybe my collection wouldn't even get that much if I post them on the Items for Sale board" Well, lucky you then! Keep in mind that your insurance company is monitoring your purchases Big Brother style -- so you can't use that money to buy anything else!

So, if you had $1500 to build your entire wardrobe again from scratch... What frags would be in it? Just estimate the price you can get 'em for, doesn't have to be necessarily $1500, but don't go too far there. Believe me, this is a healthy exercise. Something similar may have been done before, but hey, no g-string clad lunatic in pink Corvettes! ... And there's nothing wrong if you choose to buy Comme des Garcon's entire line too.

Okay.. go!

CdG Lily - $70
CdG Tea - $70
Dior Cologne Portofino - $113
Dior Cologne Blanche - $120
Escentric Molecules Escentric 02 - $140
By Kilian Straight to Heaven - $225
Asprey Purple Water - $40
Rose 31 - $200
Tom Ford Extreme - $150
Tom Ford Moss Breeches - $200
Serge Lutens Muscs Kublai Khan - $150 (I live in the UK, so :P)

After all that shopping, the $22, i'd use to buy two random miniatures or a bottle from the bargain bin

Caron Tabac Blond Parfum Extrait

I didn't bother with prices, because it depends on what size, where you buy, you might get some in bottle splits and taxes, etc...

This is what I'd buy. I think the Tabac Blond Extrait in the largest bottle from the urn collection, (possibly vintage since they may have reformulated it) is close to 1/3 of my budget. I'd most likely adjust things to fit the $1500 limit.

I've always wanted a bespoke fragrance. So, I'd use $1,100 to have Mandy Aftel design one for me. Then:

Agrumi di Sicilia - $89
Cologne Nature - $60
Brezza di Mare - $89
Cologne Sologne - $60
AdP Colonia - $68

The remaining $34 would be spent on whatever piqued my curiosity at TJMaxx.

Very cruel exercise...I would LOVE 1500 dollars to spend on fragrances, but since I very rarely finish bottles, I would get large decants of many good quality niche fragrances instead of, say, a dozen bottles.
I would buy every Creed in my signature all over again.
The problem with this exercise is that I now see how much I've spent or the value of my collection..
If I could start all over again, my wardrobe would look like this:

Gendarme
Chrome
CSP Musc Alize
L'eau d'Issey
Geir
MPG Santal Noble
SL Douce Amere
A*men
Knize Ten
Havana
DK Fuel

I would try to keep it as small as possible.

One huge bottle of Homme de Gres.

Like, as tall as I am.
Full bottles of the maximum size of everything in my top 6 in my signature!

(and believe me, the Labo big bottles are expensive!! )

New Haarlem by Bond No.9

Reflections by Amouage

Silver

Iris by Odori
Cuoio
Tabacco

Millisime Imperial by Creed
Bois du Portugal

L'eau D' Issey Summer 2008 by Issey Miyake
post #22 of 53
I'd get one of those huge Guerlain bee bottles filled with - here's the tough part because it's so hard to choose from all of the great scents - maybe Eau de Coq? - I believe the one litre is $1200. Then I'd get a bottle of Philtre d' Amour. With tax, that's probably just over $1500.
Miller Harris, Cuir d Orangers
Montale, Black Aoud
Serge, Lutens Chergui
Le Labo, Patchouli 24
Editions Parfum Frederic Malle, Musc Ravaguer
Serge, Lutens Ambre Sultan
Knize, Knize Ten
Nasomatto, Duro
Serge Lutens, Musc Kubali Khan
CdG, Avignon
Many of these would be bought on eBay and from fellow Basenoters, thus saving on retail.
Assuming reasonably large bottles of most...

Amouage Silver
Carthusia Uomo
CDG 2Man
CDG Avignon
CDG Kyoto
Creed MI
Creed VIW
Cumming
Gucci Envy
Idole de Lubin
Duro (Nasomatto)
L'Edition Imperiale (Courvoisier)
Soleil de Capri (Montale)
Polo Blue
Acqua di Gio

and still have some money left over...
Well for $1500 Australian, there's a few ways of spending it...

A. Blow it all on Patou pour Homme - at the prices these are going at, I could probably nab a couple of these.

B. At The Perfumed Court's average price of say $5 for a 1ml sample, that'd be 300 sample vials!

C. Curate a new collection at these approx. Australian prices....
Amouage Dia pour Homme $250
Amouage Jubilation XXV $250
Chanel Bois des Iles Parfum $200
Caron Yatagan $30 (what a bargain!)
Guerlain Habit Rouge $60 (ditto)
Guerlain Vetiver $55
Ormonde Jayne Man $150
Patricia de Nicolai New York $125
Annick Goutal Hadrien Absolu $180
L'Artisan Vanilia $100
L'Artisan Voleur de Roses $100
L'Artisan Dzing! $100
Hermes Eau d'Orange Vert $100

Which would leave me $200 out of pocket and having to to scrounge around for the money to pay for a bottle of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille ....
MPG:
Parfum d'Habit
Eau des Iles
(I would also blind buy Route du Vetiver, Bahiana and Santal Noble)

Annick Goutal:
Sables

Hermes:
Terre d'Hermes
Elixir des Merveilles
Un Jardin sur le Nil
(if there's any money left, which I doubt with all those MPG's, I'd also get Kelly Caleche)

Creed:
Green Irish Tweed

YSL:
M7
Body Kouros

Dior:
Dior Homme

Guerlain:
Habit Rouge EdT
L'instant EdP

Cartier:
Declaration

Diptyque:
L'Ombre dans L'Eau

Caron:
Pour Un Homme de Caron

Bvlgari:
Black
Aqva

Issey Miyake:
L'eau D'issey

Daidoff:
Adventure

That's a little over $1,500. I'd leave out the last 2-3 houses if money was short.

Well, sadly I am in this exact position of having to rebuild my fragrance collection from scratch......well, except the part about having $1500. I guess that part probably makes it a little bit easier.

If I had it, though, here's what I would go with.

Burberry Summer - $35
Green Irish Tweed - $80
Silver Mtn Water - $80
Original Vetiver - $120
Art Of Shaving Lemon - $60
Tom Ford Neroli Portofino - $250
Platinum Egoiste - $40
Eau D'Hadrien - $100
Ineke Derring-Do - $65
YSL L'Homme - $40
Tommy Bahama Very Cool - $40
Diesel - Fuel For Life - $40
L'eau Par Kenzo - $40

Ah, <sigh> I lost about three times this many bottles last month. It makes you really wonder how much money you spend on your hobbies.

Boy! Talk about deja vu . . .

Ok let me put a twist on this for me--which full botles would I buy that I don't presently own?
Discounting Fuille Verte by Creed which would take up the entire $1500, my choices would be:

1. Patou PH
2. Richard James
3. Tiffany for Men
4. Versaille PH
5. Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir
6. Carlo Corinto Vetiver
7. Cuba by C&S
8. Cuir d'Oranger by Miller Harris
9. Le Petit Grain by Miller Harris

What have I got left? $1.75?

Bah!

ONLY 1500 BUCKS???
I spent about ten times more!!!

Anyway, I`d begin with Guerlain, Caron and Dior vintages.
Add some PG, MPG, ELDO and Le Labo from selective department.
SL - most of it. Except Santal Blanc maybe.
I definitely would repeat all my leather, oud, iris and vetiver purchases.

Agree with the samples idea.... I'd be reserving AT LEAST seven hundred, if not all of that for a sampling splurge.

Full bottles I'd buy:

PG Bois Blond ( my signature )
PdE Cuir Ottoman ( all-purpose leather )
CdG Avignon ( perfect frankincense )
Caron L'Anarchiste ( understated scent - the name is such a contradiction for me - for when I need just that )
SL Iris Silver Mist ( my "earthy" frag )
