"Love in White" is so disgusting. Am I suppose to look forward to its mate "Love in Black"? I like your link - Creed closing 75 doors - I guess more people are finding out about Creed's quality isn't what its hyped up to be. When a house like Nasomatto comes along and can sell all the Duro they can make. It makes me wonder with everything that's available to Creed, why they can get some help in the nose department.

Does the tightening control Creed speaks of mean they will stop flooding the grey market with testers?

Yes, it makes perfect sense to judge an entire house by one fragrance. How's Luca Turin doing ?

I would have liked an incense note in there somewhere, but an iris+clove combo got my attention.

Now zztop, you know I would never judge a house on one fragrance. I can only judge by where I spend my money. 150 bottles on my shelf and not one is a Creed. Luca is doing fine and dreading he might have to smell "Love in Black" for his sequel.

Love in white was vanillic hell. So, why would he foul up the new creation with tonkin musk??? As far as I am concerned, it will be a stinker also.
Every time i read "master perfumer Oliver Creed", i just wanna throw up!
I did not like Love in White. However, I will hold off judgement on Love in Black until I can actually sample it - as I would do with all fragrances.

I am not very familiar with these notes and how they would mix together. Do you think this would work as more unisex or can you see this as only womens. (Based on the notes)

I'll second that. If it has clove and Tonkin musk, I'll wear it.
I wonder when we will see our first Love In Black bottle on Ebay?
I must be in the minority here, I really liked the smell of Love in White. Though I think the name is rubbish, it sounds like a pretty decent fragrance as well.
the only thing worse than a new Creed fragrance....are the PITIFUL names they give them..

CHEESE!

Ah, a note of sanity among the "all things Creed" haters!

Yeah, not a fan of Love in White and neither is my girlfriend. Will this be as disappointing?

Maybe we should wait till it actually comes out...
Love in White was old lady trash, with a corny name to match.
Hopefull, love in black adds something else sexy/warm to the iris/clove.
That might win.

Co-sign on not being able to wait for the new men's fragrance.
Wasn't there a thread on it in April ? .......

No you are not in the minority, its one of Creeds top sellers and is a very modern thoroughly enjoyable and maybe even "unisex fragrance". It not a dandy old stuffy juice like many pre-war womens french formulas.
How can they talk of closing doors for the sake of their image when they're selling Creed at Costco?!

I'm curiious to try it - they're all worth trying to me.

This is what one of the BN'ers had alluded to an year ago. Draw in fans via the gray market, and one a critical mass is established make $$$ at retail prices by limiting points of sale. Thats Fontainebleu business 101 for you.

Haha, that's from my "Top Secret" thread on April Fools Day.

I do, however, feel the colors would make a nice Creed bottle.

That is a great strategy, but maybe it's actually a sign that they're in trouble. Maybe they hit the costcos out of desperation, or to see if they could make it by reaching out to the mass market, and that didn't work so they're closing stores. I imagine that if they wanted to do as you suggest that they'd just cut off the grey market, not close their retail stores. Or maybe the doors they're closing are costcos?

I'm a major fan of the 1980's and earlier Creeds, for the record... so I don't fancy myself a basher at all.
But... "the bottle is made with black sand like that in the Greek isles where she [Jackie O] wed Aristotle Onassis," according to the company? Puhh-leeze. That is just too campy for me.
Oh goodie, it sounds like it's rather man-friendly. I'm definitely going to try this one out.

Oaksbluff - *ALL* of Creed's marketing is campy! You can't get more obnoxious than presenting the Pope with a specially made perfume!

I actually bought the first bottle off of ebay!!! I have it and it is really an amazing scent. Worlds better than LIW. It is definitely unisex. It starts off with a burst of something smelling almost like watermelon candy. Strange I know but it smells good. Slowly the violet creeps in. There is the lightest of wood notes in here from the ceder but the musk begins to creep in and lay a soft background to this scent that works amazingly with the violet notes. I agree with the perfumecritics review that this is a floral for people who like florals. This is not a strong floral feminine scent like I was expecting. It is rather soft in its presentation thanks to the musk but still has a nice presence that lasts throughout the day. It settles to a nice woodsy musky note that has the faintest of violet in it. Masterful. I really like it!! The bottle is amazing. The bottle looks so much better in black. This to me makes it much more masculine too. Strange how the box states "FEMME MELLISEME" on it. There is nothing Femme about this. VERY VERY unisex. Great new release from Creed for sure. You will not be disappointing!!

I actually find Love in White to be unisex as well - sure it has a white flower heart, but the orange zest in the top notes and the strangely alluring salty vanillic base turns it into a unisex offering. And its also very different from the other intense florals from Creed and a thumbs up modern floral imo.

As for Love in Black..I am not surprised by the positive reviews. The Creed men have been in form for the past 1.5 years or so putting out lots of juices (no shared ambergris base) with different character and making lots of $$$. All that experimenting with limited editions must be paying off.

I'm waiting for the next one; it's said to be a Colorized version of Love in Black and White.

Compared to the marketing shenanigans that Mr. Perfumes-without-compromise and Uncle Morocco have been upto recently, the Creed marketing blurbs linking scents to royalty actually sound quite a bit less outrageous..

I'm sorry, but this is TOTALLY HILARIOUS and fairly dripping with pretension:

Quote:
Designer's Description: "With Love In Black, sixth-generation master perfumer Olivier CREED (www.creedcollection.com) honors legendary dark-haired beauty Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, whom Mr. CREED met during the former First Ladys European travels. Mr. CREED, with his son, Erwin, presents a fragrance that evokes the unique élan of Mrs. Onassis: her dark, mysterious eyes behind black sunglasses, her wavelets of brunette hair, her trim shape in a black sheath. To create Love In Black, Mr. CREED blended ingredients from places loved by this well-traveled woman. Even the bottle is made with black sand like that in the Greek isles where she wed Aristotle Onassis. Love In Black is released on the 40th anniversary of that wedding.

*cough, cough*

That's not just cheese. It's a veritable Gruyere of bad press copy.

As the French would say, Mr. (MASTERPERFUMEROLIVIER) Creed farts higher than his asshole.

Guys... Like everything else we are exposed to, there is marketing that goes along with everything. From the guy who has the dramatic voice in movie previews to give a sense of excitement to the car commercials who over promise and under deliver. Marketing is all around us and Creed is no different. They make a product and are looking to create a sense of a story behind it. Like it or not, thats the way it is. Constantly talking about his choice of marketing his products or himself is getting pointless. If you like the scent than good. He will be making more. If you dont, well too bad... he will be making more. I love debate but lets discuss the scents and what we like and dont like about that individual scent and not constantly about his marketing techniques. All marketing goes overboard... THATS WHY IT IS CALLED MARKETING!!!! Regardless, Love in Black is amazing. Lets talk about it.

Cheesy marketing is when a company who designs clothes tries to create a fragrance to match the image of those clothes (Polo, Armani, Boss, Burberry, Varvatos). THAT is campy and wreaks of hubris. Creed only specializes in fragrance.

FYI, Creed began as a clothing company and still sells Creed clothing in their Paris boutique.
