Rich smelling cologne?

Thread Starter
This may be a silly question...but are there any colognes out there that you would say smell "wealthy?" One, that when you smell it makes you think of lots of money. Not expensive, but makes you smell expensive.

Dior Homme
Platinum Egoiste
Millesime Imperial/Unforgivable
Gucci PH II
Baldessarini Classic
Aramis Havana

In no particular order.
I think that Millesome Imperial is rich smelling cologne. Some thing about Geir also gives me that impression. I don't know why but they are what my view of a Wall Street broker would wear.
I second Chanel Platinum Egoiste.

Royal English Leather by Creed.

It is a decadent, aristocratic, creamy leather with a hint of mandarin orange. Turns paupers into princes!
Any Creed will do that...
Baldessarini Classic
Chanel Egoiste
John Varvatos (more suave and upbeat)
Creed Vintage Tabarome
Tiffany for Men
Signoricci

That's easy: Heritage by Guerlain. The name says it all.

That is funny. Heritage is the first one that popped into my head. Great minds think alike, huh, Mike?

Wow - these all sound intimidating. Another that I found to be that way was Declaration. A kind of understated elegance that made me feel unworthy to put it on in the store - particularly in my T-shirt and leather jacket.

I liked Bond No. 9 Wall Street as a rich scent, but it struck me more as a young associate than a cigar-smoking partner.

John Varvatos
Bulgari Black
Egoiste Platinum
Terre D'Hermes
Sean John Unforgivable Black

To me Dia give me this sensation.

I feel like I just took a bath in a mountain of jewel.

E.g like scrooge mcduck in his money bin.
The top 3 IMO are

Dia
Sandringham
Vintage Tabarome
I'd say Czech & Speake's No. 88 as well. It's very classy and aristocratic with a hint of decadence. I think this wonderful rose fragrance takes a bit of confidence to wear, though - it's not "in your face" or anything, but you have to be comfortable with its style and image. It's not something I would use with a t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
For some reason, I get that feeling when I wear Tumulte.

Some of the old school vetiver scents smell like old money... Some other ones to consider.

Marc Jacobs for Men
Michael Kors
Czech & Speake - No. 88 & Cuba

Amouage Jubilation XXV has a smell that suggests wealth, power and class. Nasomatto's Duro also has a wealthy feel to it.
i'm surprised no one has mentioned EAU D'HERMES.

it's filthy stinkin rich...pure opulence with dirtiness.
Clive Christian Number 1
It very much depends: there's Donald Trump rich (tacky), Bill Gates rich (dorky understatement), Prince Michael of Kent rich (old school style). I'd prefer the latter: Vintage Tabarome, or any well made, restrained wood-spice-tobacco combination.
Clive Christian is certainly pricey.

If you are talking about a traditional Gentleman's cologne in then you can actually get expensive smelling without shelling out big bucks.

You see, a lot of the traditional colognes were based on lavender or citrusy/ spice notes.

This afternoon I am going to be buying a bottle of Mr Taylor, which is the traditional Cologne from Taylor Of Old Bond Street. It has many of the best bits of Chanel Pour Monsieur, but somehow manages to smell more sophisticated, more expensive and more importantly lasts longer on the skin.

I've been wearing Taylor of Old Bond Street's Luxury Sandalwood Cologne of late and that smells as elegant and expensive as you like.

I also have a bottle of Edition Imperiale by Couvoisier, which trust me, smells and is expensive. But the Taylor's stuff is a fifth of the price and smells just as expensive.

I'm not sure if I could justify spending $850 for a flacon... no matter how good it smells.

I'm sure a "rich" person could justify it

>> GIORGIO BEVERLY HILLS & ETIENNE AIGNER

Frederic Malle's French Lover comes to mind. It has that "Old Money" smell to it.
I've known a few old money semi-wealthy people... and most of them wear whatever they want, usually something not trendy or too new.

I think a somewhat antiquated or older fragrance would tend to suggest wealth just by its very nature. A fougere cologne would probably be good for this.
Baldessarini
Dunhill Edition
Creed Tabarome ("Vintage")
Creed Bois du Portugal
Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree
Guerlain Habit Rouge
Nasomatto Duro

Have fun

I second Cartier Declaration! The first time I tested it, I thought this would be a nice scent to wear in a jewelry store or to an opera.

Dior Homme and Dunhill Edition remind me of a retired, rich gentleman, but I do not get the immediate associations with luxury and being rich that I get from Declaration.

Great Rec's for that. Amouage Jubilation XXV also gives me that feeling. Idole de Lubin has many of the same qualities (another Olivia masterpiece) at a much friendlier price.
Also Gucci pour Homme for a woody, warm, opulent fragrance with a touch of incense.
Creed MI or Tabarome Millesime (haven't smelled vintage but I imagine that would do the trick also).

For the 'traditional English gent' smell, anything by Trumpers will do the trick, as will C&S Cuba.
I also think The Acqua di Parma colognes have a 'moneyed' smell to them.
TF Tobbaco Vanille: make you smell as you were out of a cigar club.
Orman Jayne Man: so sublime.
YSL Jazz Prestige: old money.
Amouage Gold: no words.
& I am wondering about the new Paco Rabanne's "1 Million" with its golden ingot bottle?
When I wear Tabaróme Millésime I feel entitled to the membership of any gentleman club that attracts my fancy.
Jubilation XXV smells rich and luxurious.

Creed Bois du Portugal
Creed "Vintage" Tabaróme
Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluta
Gucci Pour Homme
Michael Kors Michael For Men

I third (or fourth, or whatever) Platinum Egoiste as well. I like it very much, especially because it has just the right amount of sillage on me - not too much, not too little. When I wear it, it has amazing longevity as well. I wore it yesterday (more than 24 hours ago) and I've showered twice since then, and I can still smell it faintly.
Why in the world is Brooks Brothers 1818 not on this list yet? I love it; it makes me smell like a private Swiss bank (not speaking out of experience mind you). For $50 retail you too can get a beautiful 6.0 oz bottle of pure luxurious quality. Honestly though there is one seller on ebay (fintouches) who sells it for half the cost on ebay. Anywho this is the best blind buy I have ever made and is one of my top favorites. Anyone else here know of a good "rich man's" cologne for the poor man's wallet?

That and my bottle of Dunhill for men (1934) makes me feel like an old money, refined yet graciously modest British gentleman. Too bad I am far too young for it though. How similar is edition and would it fit a 21 year old?
Personally eau sauvage gives me that slight air of confidence, maybe not the the extent of snobbish "rich", but just enough to give ppl the impression of certain personal stature that i can carry off? Plus where im from, its crazily humid and warm all year round so ppl stick to the "freshies" like clinique happy, boss pure etc, and whenever i wear my ES, Fahrenheit, Gentleman or Paco R. PH, i feel quite "executive" and "professional".

Bvlgari Extreme and Fahrenheit 32, Aramis Tuscany gives me the bourgeoisie air, slightly yuppy-ish, but not snobbish.....
Monsieur Givenchy

Not "old money" rich. More like a social ladder climbing executive.

Acier aluminium by Creed. Although it doesn't smell like an old banker, it has an expensive flair.

Another for Platinum Egoiste.
Also I get sophistication out of Roberto Cavalli Man.

I would file Platinum Egoiste under "Donald Trump rich." It is in some ways a kind of Giorgio For Men IMO for this generation...juniper in lieu of pathcouli and moss. Projection.

Bill Gates might even wear Aqua Velva. When you're as rich (and well-known) as he is...do you need to "smell rich?" Eau de MIT.

The Vintage Tabarome is wealth. Restraint...is also the height of passion.
