I hear you on that one! Although I just have assignments instead of exams... I'll be so happy when I can sleep more than 4 hours a night again!

Revlon Fire & Ice again for me. This just feels like a 'working' scent.

Neil Morris - AEGAN

Very decent citrus for a decently sunny day - hoping it stays that way.

Hello Basenotes!

Once more in Tom Ford Private Label

Black Violet

This is a violet I like, dark and fruity, and I even appreciate the oakmoss/treemoss base.
Notes: citrus, pulpy fruit accord (my nose says mandarin and peach), black violet, woody notes, oakmoss.

Go go go, jillsy and tavorna! Supportive hugs to our busy students
post #8 of 59
Thanks Lady in Black! I saw our accounting class's forum and it made me realise just how awesome Basenotes is

Studying didn't get too far... I figure I'm not going to learn much more accounting the night before the exam

Anyway, testing a tiny bit of SL Bois de Violette. Could have told me it was carnation and I would have believed you! Tis rather nice though
post #9 of 59
Today I have the day off For some reason I reached for my decant of Bois des iles today and it feels just right! Good luck to Tavorna and Jillsy and hope the rest of you have a great day!

Etro Raving. Dry woods, spices, sweet incense. One odd but tenacious note that makes the whole thing deliciouis.

Also tested Worth Courtesan before the shower.

Today's sample I'm trying is:

Burberry Summer

Perfectly nice scent but nothing to write home about. I'll enjoy it today but I can't see picking up more down the line.

SMM - thanks for answering the "Group of Death" question. I didn't realize that Romania was considered one of the better teams - though after watching them against France the other night, it makes sense.

Today - L'Artisan Fleurs d'Oranger 2007.

Green, dry orange blossom for a slightly less sweltering day.

Good in combination with Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla leave in conditioner (which is a dead ringer for Pilar and Lucy's Tiptoeing.....) BTW - if you have never tried this stuff, absolutely fantastic with the only downside being that the lovely scent of the conditioner will practically obliterate any perfume that you are wearing.

Taking my car in for service this morning, I reached for the calming scent of...

It's, like, only 75 F (22.8 C) at 7:39...so maybe some...

...Vetyver Haiti (CSP) Smoky vetiver under wafting island flowers and a hint of lemony bergamot. Fresh and refreshing!!

Encouragement to our (wonderful smelling) students, healing vibes to those who need, an easy and inexpensive tune-up to my bro'!

Hoping for a drop in the heat and humidity, but I'm taking no chances in Guerlain Sous le Vent. Love this one! Enormous thanks to Gerald for first sending SLV my way.

Notes (courtesy of Mr. Guerlain's review):
Top notes: Bergamot, lavender, tarragon.
Middle notes: Jasmine, carnation, green notes.
Base notes: Iris, foresty notes, woody notes.

I couldn't resist sneaking a spritz of my stepfather's Terre d'Hermes this morning. It's cool, dry perfection in this soupy warm weather.

Have a lovely day.

Feuillage Mouillé ( wet leaves) from Blanc d'Ivoire. Meant as a roomspray, but works well on clothes too.

I particularly liked Bois Oriental.
Notes of: violet, peach, plum, rose, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, musk, Atlas cedarwood, and vanilla.
The atlas cedarwood is drop-dead gorgeous and flows throughout, particularly well with the vanilla and spices.

Michael Storer Yvette, from a sample.
This is a sweeter floral than what I usually wear, but I am enjoying it. I think the mixture of terragon, heliotrope, and tonka are what intrigue me, because tropical flowers are usually too fruity and sweet for me.

Good luck to all of our hard working students!

sotd Chanel #5 edp...I'd dismissed this for such a long time. Retried it last summer in the heat & loved it.
Good luck Tavorna and Jillsy! It was not long ago that I was freaking out over my own exams, so lots of hugs, and you'll both do great!

Today, I am wearing my sample of:

Acqua di Parma Iris Noble

It is lovely, but the name is quite misleading. I do not detect any iris! However, it is a "cool floral", a little bit sweet, and great for a warm summer day. It is sitting much better than yesterday's EL Pure White Linen.

Ubu, I have samples of all the Lutens Bois series, plus Feminite du Bois and Dior Dolce Vita. When I get my perfumes back (maybe as soon as next week), I'll pitch in on a new Bois thread!

Continuing my exploratory ride this week, courtesy of the sweet Maisonstinky. Today's selection: Montale Fruits of the Musk.

Upon application, I had an unsweetened fruit salad. No citrus. I think strawberries and maybe some stone fruits--plums? Okay. Wearable, but not particularly compelling. But just a few minutes in ... and the musk is taming the fruits' acid. This is turning very nice. I don't have any Mure et Musk around for comparison, but I think this is different and less sweet from that well-known L'Artisan. As with other various samples of late, I don't know that this is pushing any of my "love" buttons at this stage, but it's imminently wearable and I recommend your trying it if this is your category of scent.

Now to look up the official description (yay! I wasn't far off in my assessment!): strawberry leaves, mandarin, bergamot of Italy, blackberry, rose essence of Bulgaria, white musk, raspberry, grey amber.

If the rose and amber can rise up over the course of the day, this may get quite entertaining.

Raining again today, so felt like HABANITA. I love this one!

JILLSY and TAVORNA - All the best of luck to you both, I'm sure you'll do well!

Good luck to all of our exam takers. Do sniff your wrists occasionally, it will relieve some stress and put you in a better frame of mind.

Take care Shades!

Today, I'm taking cues from LIB and wearing violets... AL Midnight Violets -- thanks for the decant spicegirl!

Late last night I was inspired to dig up some old Ofra Haza videos on You Tube. Before I fell into sleep I watched Im nin'alu (very nostalgic for me). It made me dream of some kind of quest in a mysterious, yet romantic desert. I could smell a fragrance in my dream, but I woke up and it wasn't something I was wearing. It's not something I own, and I'm going to wrack my brains trying to find something like it, it was so lovely.

The closest fragrance I have that captures the mood of the dream is Aqaba. So, it's Aqaba for me today. It's beautiful and sunny, and the birds in the canyon behind my backyard are singing so loudly I feel like I'm in a jungle! Aqaba is working well today, from the desert of my dreams to the jungle of my life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSMl8SpT6p0

Testing several (THANKS dewey eyed!): Hanae Mori EdT, Magical Moon, and HM. Also La Prairie Silver Rain. So far Silver Rain is winning by a nose over Magical Moon. HM is a little too ...sharp?...masculine? and Hanae Mori (which is now Butterfly?) is just plain too much. Alas, not one is FBW, but on the other hand none is scrub-worthy either!

Sampling Ramon Molvizar Luna
Starts out masculine. I've sniffed at Luna a couple times over the last few days, and I always get that masculine vibe, but this night I'm really going to see this fragrance through. As it dries down it changes gender, and by the time I smelled my hand in the morning, it gave off a mildly sweet, floral-wood scent.

Official description: Like a magic spell which strikes away through the darkness, Luna/Moon
perfume carries the senses away on the path of art and seduction. Tones of spice with a gentle touch of white wood, against a musk background make up this vibrant fragrance.

Spices are a problem for me. I'm sure this will be very popular with those who like them.

Paris Jardin romantiques 2007 YSL When spray it on I smell green notes and lily of the valley befor it turns to roses. This one seems lighter and going away sooner as the other issues.

Paris Pont des amours 2008 is a lot sweeter and stays vere well for long time.

AG Vanilla Exquise....This is a really nice vanilla. I like the tiny bit of smoke and spice...very nice.
