Any fragrances smell like Bain de Soleil orange gelee?

You know...the one in the metal tube, that hardly has any suncreen at all, it's mostly just oils.

Does anyone know of any fragrances that smell like it? It kind of smells like a combination of fizzy orange soda and sand. I love the way this stuff smells.

Any ideas?

Clarins Eau Dynamisante EDT, maybe? It is more of an aromatherapy "energizer" than a formal perfume. The notes (from their website) are: Lemon, Patchouli, White Thyme and Rosemary. But when I smelled it, it seemed like oranges and salty sea air to me.

Why don't you just rub yourself down with, "Bain de Soleil for that San Tropez tan" smell?

Is that the one in the red bottle Asha?

Well, the gelee makes my oily skin break out every time I use it...so, I tend to stay away from it, unless I'm on the West coast, where the dry summer heat tends to dry my skin out. But here in Miami, using this stuff, I get major body acne which is totally gross.

Yes, the red bottle is the citrus one. I also saw on their site that they have a new, orange colored one that is supposed to smell like "bottled sunshine". I have never smelled that one, but if you are going to the Clarins counter, it may be worth a shot also!

Oh, also, one more thing. When I want to diminish the oilyness of an oil-based body product, I mix it with unscented Eucerin body lotion. The lotion is light, and I think there is even one that has sunscreen now. And, I usually put it on arms and legs, the drier parts of my body, that way it does not add to my oily skin, either

Hey Mike! I recently read on a perfume blog (and I've been trying to go back and find the article and I'm not having any luck) that Bobbi Brown Beach either smells like Bain de Soleil or Coppertone... I don't remember which but for now perhaps that little piece of info might help. If you smell it and verify, let me know I've not yet experienced it.

Jo Malone's French Lime Blossom dried down to what reminded me of Bain de Soleil orange gelee!

Mikeperez23,
I grew up using that BDS gelee. I agree, it smells fantastic. haven't been around it in awhile. Let us know what you think when you try some of these suggestions.

P.S. That Coppertone smell is pure evil.

Thanks everybody.

I am familiar with French Lime Blossom by Jo Malone and unfortunately this is not the scent I'm looking for - FLB reminds me of limeade (in a good way).

I will try Beach by Bobbi Brown and Eau Dynamisante by Clarins - although I remember smelling ED years ago, and I have a hunch this isn't what I'm looking for either...it's not really that orange smelling. But, I'm willing to re-sniff it, to see if maybe it has a different effect on me now.

The candied orange in Elixir des Merveilles by Hermes is very close, but Elixir has that chocolate note that of course changes the scent entirely. And Eau des Merveilles isn't close either, because it's orange note isn't as sweet as the Elixir, it's more salty/sour.

Hey Mike, I was going to suggest you Eau des Merveilles basing on your description (i never smelled that oil) but now I understand the orange you look for is sweeter.
So why don't you try layering Eau des Merveilles (which I think it's fantastic for summer) with a sweet orange water of just a drop of sweet orange essential oil on the pulse points?
That maybe can do the trick..

Good idea Magnifiscent - but, I currently own Parfum des Merveilles and it smells slightly differerent than EdM (it's more...boozy and less orange prominent). Not sure if'd it'd work with PdM, plus the PdM (it's a tiny 1/4 oz bottle) is so friggin expensive I hate thinking about wasting it layering with something that might not work.

I have a question though - is sweet orange essential the same as neroli and/or orange blossom oil?

I remember a post where someone said Tocade (Rochas) and Purple Fantasy (Guerlain?) reminded them of Bain de Soleil.

I have never smelled either, so don't personally know.

Mike, I know what you mean. Plus PdM has the chocolate note that makes it gourmand rather than beach-like. That's why for example I can appreciate PdM but I better like EdM: you know I'm not much a gourmand guy in such explicit way for scents.
About sweet orange, definitely neroli and orange blossom are not the same of sweet orange.
Neroli is the flower of bitter orange, while orange blossom I suppose it's still the flower but of sweet orange. Anyway what I refer to is sweet orange oil extracted from the peel: it's not at all floral, just fruity and zesty.

You're talking about Tocade (the women's) right? Really!? And I've never even heard of Purple Fantasy by Guerlain? I'll add those to the list - thanks.

Ok, sweet orange oil - I'll keep a lookout for this, next time I'm at the natural health food store. Thanks M.

mikeperez, be sure to dilute the orange essential oil in jojoba or 90 proof alcohol---straight from the bottle it is a known skin irritant, and it can also cause photosensitivity.

Hey Mike,

I thought Bond no. 9 Fire Island was supposed to be inspired by Bain de Soleil. It is supposed to smell like skin cooking under the sun while wearing Bain de Soleil... and a little Tuberose. For some reason I have never smelled this one so I am just going off of what I remember reading when it came out.
