Got a compliment today while wearing Creed Windsor 2nd batch from a hot milf (figures!).
I got compliments on Bulgari aqua marine.
Amouage Dia for Men recently got me 2 compliments. One from a friend who said it was the best perfume he ever smelled in his entire life and the other one, yesterday, when I was with a girl that said to me "You smell so good" at least 10 times. That makes them 11 or 2 compliments ? haha
post #3244 of 5550
So do we have a consensus yet?
Got some great comments on MI this past weekend even when i thought it was long gone. I have a new batch from 2011 as well...

Aventus 2 days ago.

So I picked up Chanel AHS after talking myself out of it so many times before. Sprayed it on, took completely different character than on the card - wham bam 2 compliments in one day. Now I'm hooked on it - I may have found a new signature scent.
Wow, there are enough pages here to confuse a newbie, who hasn't got a clue about fragrances. LOL!

Wore some Er0lfa from my sample today - got a compliment from a really fat lady.

Got intense compliments on Terre D' Hermes (the EDT version).

While I rate it at 3 to 4 stars out of 5, I think that generally people tend to like this fragrance a lot.
Like many of you, I tend to add fragrances that render a lot of compliments through this thread.

The other day, on my way to school, I had a blowout on the highway going 80 .. Fortunately wasn't injured. Got the car towed to the tire shop. The man working there was intrigued by my fragrance, this I could tell. I walked next door for a little, came back, and he was talking to a woman there, getting some tires put on. He told her she smelled good, and then he said "my man over there smelled good too, but I didn't wanna say anything" lol! I thanked him for the compliment, and said I respected him for not being afraid to say so. Later on I walked past the woman he complimented and she said "wow, you really do smell good". She asked what I was wearing and I said.. Phat Farm Atman. Well.. to be honest, I left the Phat Farm part out lol. Regardless.. don't judge a fragrance by its label. Atman is just mediocre to me, but the compliments as of late have been awesome.

Lots of suede in this one, leather as well. Very masculine, but not old school, mellowed out with some citrus notes. On the same style as True Religion (which I adore, but fails badly in longevity)

went to Sunglass Hut to buy, uh, sunglasses. HOT 23-yo-ish blond girl working there. after I decide on a pair and purchase, I was about to leave...

her: hey, by the way, what cologne are you wearing?
me: oh, um, it's called Creed
her: Cree?
me: CreeD
her: but who makes it?
me: oh, that's the company name. it's not very well known.
her: what's the specific name of it?
me: it's called "Original Cologne"
her: where can you get it?
me: Nieman Marcus is the only place that sells it around here. or online.
her: oh, okay
me: why, do you like it?
her: it's AMAZING! i've never smelled anything like that before.
me: oh, cool, thanks. bye.
her: bye.

just took a shower. put on my "whatever noones going to smell me im just sitting at home so i just wanna smell clean" fragrance. Went outside to put the trash in the dumpster as the same the young lady that lives in the apartment next to me.

"my gosh you smell amazing! what is that?"

^What? Are you kidding? Though I have never smelled that above Hugo cologne you brought forth, I just bet it will smell like "cologne" and a bit of small citrus thrown in and that's it - no distinctive or tailored specific refined smell like something like Pi, Kouros, etc. Am I right...or? Sorry, I just get the vibe that all Hugo Boss colognes or Liz Clairborne colognes or these other Mega-Mainstream fragrances are uniformly similar in their scents: ergo musk + citrus and nothing more. What is different about this and what do you like about it?

*AND...just to clarify, were those her exact words verbatim, or did you slightly modify/paraphrase her phrase? Sorry...just wanted to know Thanks.

BTW: I guess I was somewhat right. http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120796.html

30 thumbs down. I am thinking *generic* scent..with no aura of distinctiveness.

@fumegator

I'm going to have to try out Original Cologne. Looks like it went under the radar.

Hugo Boss Hugo is one of best Hugo offerings IMO. It is modern, fresh, fruity, green and costs just few bucks. You can do much worse when choosing mainstream designer fragrance to wear.

While I do agree with you in the matter that Hugo Boss frags tends to be generic and boring in a very "crowd-pleasing" kinda way I still think its very possible to get compliments of them.

I don't have a major collection by any means, but the one I get the most female compliments has to be Burberry classic. L'eau d'Issey is a close second. I bought Burberry London the same time I bought the classic and it didn't get many favorable responses, despite being a more noticeable. Don't wear it too often anymore (it's entirely inappropriate for summer though!)
My first serious girlfriend absolutely loved Armani "Black Code". I bought it Summer '05 and wore it on several special occasions and she couldn't get enough. Two years later after we had broken up, she texted me asking what that scent was. I knew she'd always associate that scent to me. Ah, the power of smell.

More recently, I've gotten the most compliments wearing Polo Black. I travel quite a bit and on my way back to New York the clerk at the American Airlines kiosk couldn't help but ask what I was wearing and saying she loved it! The connecting flight a very attractive female sheepishly asked me the exact same question... quite flattering to say the least.

Most people ARENT on basenotes and don't know the difference between Creed, Guerlain, Hugo or Liz or Adidas bodyspray. Here when people take the time out to compliment someone on their cologne they either think it's Cool Water, Hugo (above) or Acqua di Gio (the Manila trifecta of generic-ness). It's either that or they say "You smell old" -- referring to everything else.

Just thought I would add my voice here, nothing ground breaking but I have had a few very strong reactions GIT. The strongest was when I was at a bar meeting some old friends from high school. There was this one girl who I barely knew ended up sitting on my lap the entire night just to get closer to my neck. Just a complete stranger going to something like that in the span of two hours is just wow. Too bad I was just borrowing my dad's GIT for the night and don't own my own bottle Ah, one day!

I also get a few compliments recently for Pure Malt as it's winter here. Was having a small dinner with some friends and guests at my place, one of my close lady friends smelled Pure Malt's drydown and got so close to my neck that she actually left some saliva on there. She kept apologizing but I just laugh it off.
GIT is 500 million bucks, and why do people get lots of comments on it? I am sure there are much better options out there for much less the price.
Took a girl out to dinner tonight, when she got close she said, "That's some sexy stuff your wearing...I never smelt anything like that" It was Bvlgari Black...
I let my friends triy out M7 and Aventus tonight, both were a huge hit.....according to my friend Jen...Aventus smelt "Delicious"
Allure Sport Chanel
Hanae Mori
I dont get compliments from strangers but my new 37yo girlfriend usually comments most of my SOTD.

She was absolutely amazed by: Dior Homme (it was actually first time when she got into my car and commented my scent right away. She repeated comments like 2x more during that night)

She loved: Pure Malt, Musc Ravageur

She really liked: Bleu De Chanel, Encre Noire, Acqua Di Gio

She liked: Body Kouros, Rochas Man, Pi

She asked me if its Fa deospray: Nightflight

She didnt say anything about: Terre d'Hermes, Zino, Le Male, Kouros

Dior Homme smells like an old makeup bag...I don't know why some people love it. Is Carlos Santana Men any better? I heard thats similar in scent composition...anyone?

Lately and surprisingly it's been the oud-heavy laden Montales.

Herpa Derp. Your point? It's something people buy because they enjoy it, also referring to the GIT comment. Opinion=/=Fact
post #3287 of 5550
Got a compliment today from the woman whose opinion I value more than any other.
I would call her my girlfriend, but it's actually one of those "it's complicated" type of relationships.
We were standing hip to hip looking over a menu, getting ready to order some
takeout. She said, "You smell good."

Cartier Roadster
My gf almost raped me yesterday when I wore Acqua Di Gio. I never seen her so excited with fragrance. "You smell so stuningly beautiful. It is absolutely best thing you ever worn. Numero uno!"

She could not stop sniffing me whole night and literally licked ADG from my neck.

Creeds never get compliments, anyone telling you otherwise is a liar, how can anyone possibly smell the scent when most Creeds don't last a few nanoseconds? The only Creed that *might* get compliments is Aventus, but it's so different from the rest of the line. Aventus gets me compliments because I smell like I just played football, girls into sports usually notice it, they don't compliment me per se, but they sure as hell get a little closer than usual. The number one compliment getter and head turner for me, sadly and surprisingly, is Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger and CK Be—not lying just telling the truth.

Aventus is EASILY the most complimented fragrance I've ever worn. I got 4 compliments in one work day. Even at the end of the day, it was projecting very well. I'm going to be wearing this a lot. It projects, but isn't too sweet or too thick like most powerhouses.
Don't get the Aventus Hype. I've sampled it a few times and i feel it to be too sharp, acid in its fruity (pineapple) accords. I don't usually love fruity notes, and this was quite pungent.

The drydown was ashy in a disgusting way, according to some basenoters it's due to some batch issues (Creed as a quality brand shouldn't let this happen, anyway).
I don't care for Aventus and Dior Homme either, but a lot of people love them AND get compliments to boot. Can't argue with that.
Wore La Nuit last night but gave Aventus a spray on my arm, 4 hours later I let my friend Michelle smell Aventus, and she said "I could eat your arm". Man holy smokes women can't get enough of it....
^Why do women like Aventus? It smells like a brass item or something...hardly magical or sensual like Givenchy Pi would be, for instance.

^ it smells like a refined man that doesn't give a F
