I wear cologne 1/3 for myself, 1/3 for girls, and 1/3 as a means of expression (which is why I've stayed away from the mass market stuff since). However, it seems that the ones that get complimented the most are "fresh" and "clean" smelling scents as opposed to Heritage or BdP.

This is an excellent and rather keen observation! I too have noticed similar responses. I teach 10th and 11th grade at a high school, so I'm constantly exposed to younger women who have nothing better to do than verbally critique an individuals sense in fashion.

I tend to wear a fragrance similar to yourself: 1/3 for me, 1/3 for the people I'm around most (my students), and 1/3 as a form of expression. The benefit I have is that I teach in a smaller, more rural area that hasn't been infiltrated by the "mass market" fragrances and is more on the economically downtrodden side. Wearing AdG gets me compliments where as BdP gets me nothing. Of course, I'm also younger (24) so BdP is a bit mature for an individual like myself in a teaching environment.

To be quite honest, as much as I love smelling fragrances, if women found it repulsive I probably wouldn't ever wear any.

I'm not going to go all Freudian and say that everyone does it to get some sort of sexual gratification - that being said, if there really were a scent that someone could wear that gave that person a high percentage of getting laid (I couldn't think of a euphemism), EVERY guy that could get his hands on it would wear it.

Despite what the title suggests, I just want to know what scents you guys get complimented on the most

I see fragrances as a way to set yourself apart, to be confident that you smell awesome, and (hopefully) increase your chances of getting some action.

If you ask a lot of women they'll tell you they like Joop and Eau D'Issey pour Homme.

I would never want anything to do with women who like those fragrances, so I'm quite glad I wear neither.

I hate to be a stickler here but, there is a reason the mods felt it necessary to post a sticky at the top of the forum. There are many answers there from which to choose. That being said, Kouros is doing it porno style whereas SMN Gold Musk is like a school girl lolita pulling down her white cotton panties just before you deflower her!

Is it a compliment from a girl that you're looking for? I find that they usually compliment on scents that they would like to wear themselves! I think that's why they go wild for Gucci Envy for men. With a scent that they find sexually attractive doesn't it work more subliminally, and the outward response can even be Ooh, I don't think I like THAT!

So there I was, eating lunch and the very cute waitress was totally unmoved by my Jean Patou PH. The next day I came in wearing Havana--nothing. Two days later I wore Versailles, and once agiain-- Strikeout. Zero!

Piqued with frustration, I remembered this thread and asked myself: " What would Yoda do ? "

So as she passed by me for a second time, I merely THOUGHT of that purdy gold MI bottle-- and the scent of GIT.

Instantly she stopped in her tracks, turned towards me, got on her knees and begged me to allow her to cut my steak, to which I graciously consented.

I believe I'll write a sequel to " The Secret. "

Cheers,

Mario

What are the best frangrances for atrracting girls for nightlife, clubbing picking up, etc. No the "oh you smell nice" reaction, but the mainly for getting girls aroused with specific scents.

Somone already mentioned:

Kouros (eau de toilette) by Yves Saint-Laurent

Any other good ones to recommend?

Please give a link if this has been discussed before, but searched and couldn't find anything.

According to you. But people are different, so while you may not like it or perhaps a few female friends may not like it doesn't flat out mean 100% of other people will not like it.

I don't mean to come off confrontational but it really irks me when opinions come out sounding like they're fact.

i was very hopeful about armani code, but no one realised it.

the three compliment winning fragrance of mine were armani pour homme (a girl said that she wanted to lick my neck and many girls complimented about it), escada casual friday (they were asking about if i smoked djarum black clove cigar recently) and givenchy pi (thanks to vanilla).

honestly two of my favourites were escada casual friday and tabac cologne, but i can not say girls love tabac.

That's what matters. Sometimes you just know you smell incredible and people around you love it, but none has the courage to comment. It should just give you a great feeling, especially if it shows on people's reactions towards you. One basenoter once said that the best compliments are unspoken, and I think this is very true.

My latest female compliment was from a colleague on Diptyque L'Ombre dans L'Eau. I got many comments from the same girl, and since it's a unisex fragrance, I decided to say thank you by giving her a small atomizer with about 3 ml of the Diptyque.

But so far, nothing has been a compliment getter for me as Habit Rouge. Males and females. Relatives, friends, colleagues, you name it. And for some reason they're not just compliments but whole conversations. People find it kind of strange and actually keep trying to guess what you smell like. I got many, many funny conversations out of this, and it's always interesting to see people guess what you smell like, only to correct them saying that what they're smelling is mostly HR's vanilla.

Next comes Parfum d'Habit. This is just so intriguing that almost everyone will ask. I had compliments and questions nine hours into wearing, and people open their eyes and mouths like this smiley from the beauty of the smell. It once got me 4 compliments in one day, a record.

renzo, it is the EdT. HR is one of my absolute favorites, but strangely, I have not taken the time yet to test any of the variations.

I don't know really. Anyone?
I'm not in the industry and I don't have specific or certain knowledge, but my understanding--based on lots of scent collecting and reading about the stuff--is that the edc was indeed the first. I'm pretty sure Scentemental's fantastic post on Habit Rouge in all its mixes spells this out too, and a search will find that post.

Great post on the compliments you get from HR, Mostapha. A pleasure to read it.

When I was 14 I got a bottle of Kouros Body, by YSL and wore it non stop for about 6 years... I think i must have bout 12-14 bottles, i received the single most compliments wearing that perfume, turned 4 friends on to it.and actually had women stop me in the street to ask about it...
It was the the best elevator conversation piece...

Then for sure Passage Denfer by L'Artisan and now Cruel Intentions by Killian, Natalie Portman stopped me at a party a couple of weeks ago to inquire about the scent.

My wife and I nearly gagged on Kouros Body. I actually threw it away after three attempts at wearing it. Out the door. I think it is one of those love/hate fragrances.

Thanks to you, I tried an unopened sample of the EdT and waw...what a longlivity !! It stays with you as a good but clamorous friend, and when you are sweating, it becomes a cloud of light vanilla, that superb oriental touch !..

Man I see what you mean. If I ever detected Body Kouros on someone, I would not just compliment, I would stop them and have a whole Body Kouros conversation, which in turn will lead to a Kouros conversation, then a YSL conversation.

You just had to remind me of the "something higher on my priority list" didn't you? I was trying hard to forget about it. I kept myself busy with sports, college, sitcoms and video games, and you come here and blow all this with a single, one-line post? Thank you, now I'm getting imaginary whiffs of Dior Homme all over again.

Something on topic. Wearing DH, I got a female comment saying that it really smells feminine (I took it as a compliment). Dior Homme is one of those fragrances that people actually remember. I had a question about it a few days later.
Funny what you guys are saying, because i bought Body Kouros yesterday.
I have to say i loved it right away, like many YSL.
I wore it today (one spray on the chest ,1 below each ear, one on the wirst) , and i had 3 girls of my office telling me it was smelling very very good, of course without that i do or ask anything , just "free" compliments..

First time it happened to me 3 in the same morning, i was impressed. Specially since i worked with 3diferent women this morning, 3/3 seems a pretty nice score.

Also women under 30-35, specially in the 20-35 range LOVE vanilla scents and fresh ( mainly citrus) scents, probably even much more than men do.

I get lots of compliments for Versace Dreamer and its potent vanilla. I like it but would not give it a higher rating than 7/10. Also , all the "fresh" scents like Allure , Burberry classic (former london) get me lot s of compliments. And from many diferent girls (under 35 i have to admit.)

I think it s quite sure that female and male tastes about male fragrances are diferent. They also don t like patchouli that much.

However, i m 26 and speak only about women under 35, it might change (drasticaly for women over 35).
