Which scent gets you the most female compliments? - Page 80

+1 for Gucci Pour Homme (2003). I'm starting to pay more attention to who gives me compliments on which scents in an effort to figure out what sort of woman likes what sort of scent. I have a feeling that women who like a man to smell "manly" will enjoy Gph. I had a woman tell me I smelled nice when wearing Aventus. I fetched a cotton ball and sprayed it with Gph to see what she'd think. Her exact words: "That smells like a MAN!"

Interesting! I've intentionally avoided trying Fierce because of the association with A&F and the assumption that it would be too young of a scent for a guy in his late 30s. I could totally be wrong about that!

What was I wearing? Creed Aventus.

Magic everytime!

I'm a big fan of Aventus but no offence that story sounds like total bullshit to me.

My mother complimented me on Gendarme several hours after I sprayed it. Another scent that seems to go under the radar (olfactory fatigue). She discovered it for my father about twenty years ago and still remains her favorite to this day .

...I think we're all in agreement there. See also: police woman story. And the story of being on a bus and having the driver stop and check seat by seat to find out who smelled so good. Oh, brother.

Hahaha!! You know, some of these compliment stories might be true, but I usually think they are bullshit or exaggerated.
I think the most crazy stories have come from people who wear Aventus.

I wear Aventus, maybe not as much as I'd like to and I agree with your first statement - most of these stories (especially in this thread) are simply cobblers!!

I also wear Aventus and I think it smells fantastic, but does it make skinny women with huge tits fall from the sky on to my lap? Not yet.

Nuit seems to be the most complimented "can get at Sephora and regular department stores like Dillards" (as opposed to scents like Aventus and DHI which are either unavailable at local stores or only at the high end Neimans or Saks level places).

La Nuit de L'Homme right now seems to work really well at getting random compliments. Just a few hours ago I went to dinner with my girlfriend and her family since her sister was in town. At this point you are probably thinking the mom or sister were all over me right? Nope, they did compliment me, but the 70 year old pair of women in the booth next to our table kept remarking how I smelled good enough to eat.

As a result I am now being mercilessly mocked by my girlfriend and her family as liking women a little "dusty"

So yea, get La Nuit de L'Homme

La Nuit De L'homme PARFUM

Original Vetiver (most random compliments)

Figured I'd post a real experience since most seem fabricated.

I was at a Bachelor party this weekend, which ended at the strip club. This stripper sits down and starts trying to get me to buy a dance. She asks why I keep looking at my phone because it can't make me cum. I said "There is an ap for that!" She laughed and got caught off guard, but then went back to stripper mode. She grabbed my no-no area and leaned into my neck. Then she suddenly let go and pulled back. She went "DAMN YOU SMELL GOOD!" I smiled back and said thanks. She said well I guess I'm not getting a dance out of you. I said no and she walked off. I was wearing YSL Rive Gauche

Nooo, this doesn't seem fabricated at all! Are you sure you weren't wearing Aventus?

Of course he was wearing Aventus. There is an unwritten law that among wearers that nobody will reveal the secret of their porntastic lifestyle. Any common frag name may be substituted..

Just wondering why you think La Nuit is the the one that REALLY will garner compliments? Where you being sarcastic? or is it the sweetness of the frag? From my experiance women like sweet scents but they love fresh and clean ones as well.

For me it's been Davidoff Cool Water, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male, and Versace The Dreamer.

Which scent do you mean? Gucci By Gucci wasn't released until 2008, which makes me wonder if you're actually referring to Gucci Pour Homme II, the tea based scent they launched in 2007? That's a really good one!

Or do you mean Gucci Pour Homme, their woody incense scent? Gph is often referred to as Gucci Pout Homme (2003) because Gucci had a previous scent named Gucci Pour Homme, launched back in the 70s.

Gucci really did a terrible job naming many of their scents. It's almost as if they WANT to be confusing! Luckily, some of their stuff is quite good. I think Gph(2003) and GphII are both outstanding.

I got a nice compliment today on Corduroy by Zirh. I picked this one up REALLY cheap, and I'm impressed by it. It was something like $15 for 3.4 oz. It's one of the best bang for the buck cheapies I've come across. The bottle sure looks cheap - especially the cap - but the scent doesn't smell cheap at all.

Newbie alert: First time posting/replying to any posts but thought I would reply to this one first

The scents that I have gotten to most compliments for up to this point are

John Varvatos Vintage(At least 3 since I got it a couple weeks ago.. One was when I was walking by some co-workers (male and female) and both said what are you wearing that smells good.. and another female co-worker walked by me and said "whatever you are wearing smells really good..)
Bleu De Chanel (Just the normal that smells really good)
CK Euphoria Intense(Had 1 co-worker(male) say "you're smelling fresh" and he would get whiffs of it and talk about how good it smells and another co-worker (female) smell it and say she better get away cuz it makes her want to bite me)
Burberry London (After it was drying down a co-worker got a whiff of it and said she liked it)

Most of the compliments were from work. I have yet to get some random person telling me they liked what I was wearing.
And most of these compliments were from different co-workers I would encounter too.

Ha ha, promise it really happened. Lipstixx on Bourbon street The funniest part was as soon as it happened, I thought to myself "I'm posting this on base notes"

It's my only female compliment thus far
Haters and snobs won't want to hear this, but Paco Rabanne 1 Million seems to be well-liked by young and middle-aged women. Ladies seem to be attracted to sweet notes, whereas I personally prefer some of the more masculine powerhouse type scents on myself

I believe it. I was just effing w/ you. It just sounded to me like one of those "Aventus posts". LOL

Sorry all...but I have to do it...& add another tally mark for Aventus. Now, I don't have any far-fetched stories to tell and am certainly not trying to fuel the "hype" any more than it already is, but Aventus garnered me the most compliments in one day yesterday, than all of my other frags combined have in the past several months. On top of that, not a single compliment came within the first 12 hours of application, but actually between 12 to 14 hours after 2 sprays (front & back of neck).

I mean, I was still barely catching light whiffs by that point, which did surprise me, but I certainly didn't think it was still projecting. However, all of the compliments came from people more than a few feet away. Again, I'm not talking mind-blowing compliments, just the normal, unsolicited, "you smell great" & "I really like your cologne." What's strange is, I've worn Aventus several times before without any compliments. I think the main difference this time was I had sprayed my neck area after putting my shirt on, so some of it obviously got on my shirt as well. Somehow, this stuff becomes beastly & legendary on fabric, I guess, as I've never had it project that long on previous wearings. So, while I do think it's a fantastic & easily likeable fragrance, I also think a main reason it may get complimented so often in comparison to many others is how well it projects and lasts, especially if you've gotten any on your clothes.

For me a new projection beast is the new Cartier Declaration d'Un Soir. 2 Sprays and all people in the supermarket look after me. I saw that everybody turned the head and looked at me. In my winterjacket i began to sweat, and the sillage gets stronger and stronger. I was embarrassed. GREAT SMELL, spicy , woody, floral.

I'm proud of my collection....I do get compliments and all but that's not what I'm after. I'm looking to buy the one fragrance that females in general find appealing and sexy. Not just something they would find generally pleasant, but something they can admit is really really good. Something that has the potential of leaving a good and looooooonnnnng lasting impression in their minds and also something that would make them want to get closer to me. I Know opinions vary....but they don't hurt at all. Thanks all.

NB: Here's what I already have in my wardrobe, so any suggestions other than what I HAVE in my wardrobe will be fine.

haha, in all seriousness, here are few that could match your description, aside from some that you already have:

YSL La Nuit
Dior Homme Intense
Chanel Platinum Egoiste
Terre d'Hermes Parfum
and yes....Creed Aventus
Just as a head up, 99% of whether a scent is sexy depend on the vibe you put out, not the specific notes (or else you see nothing but those sold at cologne departments). If you don't put out sexual vibes, women won't get that from your scent unless the associate that with something sexual from a previous encounter. That said, I would look into getting a more proper gourmand or two into your collection as women tend to have deep connections to food and you seem to be lacking in that catagory. You have some sweet scents but nothing super gourmand. Maybe something like Rochas Man/New Haarlem.
Pure Malt
Rochas Man
Dior Homme/Dior Homme Intense
Midnight in Paris EdP

Gourmands are always compliment getters.
And none of those have worked? Tough crowd!

Guerlain Vetiver Extreme
YSL Rve Gauche pour homme
Givenchy Gentlemen

are three that come to mind.
