Honeybees

The honey bees have discoverd my hummingbird feeders and are draining them daily. Suddenly I am identifying with Bill Murrays character in Caddyshack! I would never dream of killing them but they are really starting to piss me off. I have tryed spraying cooking spray on the ports of the feeder ( a recommendation I found on line) and that keeps them at bay for a while but seems to wear off. Anyone know any tricks?

Thanks for your reply. I was not able to pull up any of those pages however. I have ordered special feeders that bees can not drink out of and have decided to move the other feeders out to my yard, rather than on the porch. That way the honey bees can still drink their share and everyone will be happy. The hummingbirds are not afraid of the bees but having them swarm my porch with 2 people in the house allergic to bees is disconcerting!

That sounds like a great compromise. Thank you for being kind to the honeybees and allowing them to drink as well! We need them!

I have to give the bees credit for their tanacity. I have moved the feeders to different areas on the back of my house and they keep coming until they find it. We are abviously the "McDonalds" for bees in this area. I hope we can find a way to peacefully coexist! They are much more aggressive in groups. Although seeing me sit out by my the pool with my iced tea, magazine and epi pen is somewhat humorous....if you have a slightly twisted sense of humour like I do

Ditto to lilybelle. I'm relieved that there are still some healthy colonies out there...
