Funny thing about scents I learned today

Thread Starter
Hello I am a newbie to this forum and also to the world of perfumes.

I have been facinated with fragrances since I was about 4 years old and my mother would pat my hair with a fragrance called "that's my girl" I think it was from Avon but I'm not sure.

I have tried countless perfumes over the years. Sometimes I will stick to a certain fragrance for a while and then move on when I feel like I've outgrown it (Tuscany per donna for example---I could never wear that now like I did when I was 20!)

I am toying with the idea of experimenting and creating my own fragrance. I like perfume oils because alcohol irritates me. I love the smell of sandalwood, tuberose, jasmines, pink lotus, amber, vanilla---I would love to create a scent that is uniquely my own and that noone else has.

What would be a great site, if anyone knows, for ordering perfume mixing supplies and essences?

Your suggestions are welcome!

Oh and going back to my thread title. My supervisor today was wearing this perfume that I swear almost made me vomit! It was soooooo sweet and had this like Mobile
\\Exxon quality to it I can't even begin to describe how awful it smelled. Thank God I only smelled it when she came close. Had I smelled it from far I would have moved to the other side of the room, maybe even to a different floor! (We have 3 floors)

I guess what I learned is: what smells good to you may smell horrible to others and to always always apply sparingly!!

Happy sniffing!

Heh, I've learned that lesson, both ways. I am in love with PotL but can't wear it around my sister, lest her dramatic gagging sound effects put me off. I also personally dislike Angel a LOT and it seems very well liked by many people.

I don't blend my own perfume but the only way I scent my house is an essential oil burner and the best quality oils I've found come from a company called Aroma Vera. They used to have a bricks and mortar location in the town where I grew up but as of now I use their website. They can seem pricey compared to other places but as far as essential oil goes I think the quality is worth the price. My most-used oils are lavender, Roman chamomile, neroli and clary sage, and combos thereof.

I ordered from www.perfumersapprentice.com and was very happy with their products.

If you do a search on the forums you will turn up a lot of information

I asked a similar question recently, and some people gave me some very helpful suggestions. If you want to check out the thread it's in the DIY (Do It Yourself) section.

The most popular place for essential oils seems to be Eden Botanicals (http://www.edenbotanicals.com/).

For bottles, funnels, etc, I picked Accesories for Fragrance (http://www.accessoriesforfragrances.com/).

But I heard that these places are also good:

Welcome Mysolegia!

If you are mixing oils, the DIY forum and the Note Identification Project (http://community.basenotes.net/showthread.php?t=210096) have a wealth of useful information. I haven't ordered supplies off the net yet, but I hear the Perfumer's Apprentice is very good.

Also, for pre-made oil based blends check out Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. They have hundreds of scents so it's very unlikely someone else will be wearing the same.
