best orange blossom fragrances

Hello. My girlfriend (age 25) said that she would love to find a fragrance that reminded her of the orange blossoms on the trees in California's Central Valley, where she is from. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If she wants orange blossom straight-up, I'd recommend Jo Malone Orange Blossom. I really don't get any notes in there except orange blossom.

Fleurs d'Oranger - Serge Lutens (with Jasmine)
Fleurs d'Oranger - Fragonard (with musk, bright and clean)
Neroli - C&S
Néroli - Goutal (doesn't last on skin)
Dilmun - Villoresi (vanilla added)
Fleurs d'Oranger - L'Artisan Parfumeur (Beautiful but dead expensive)
L'Eau des Cinq Mondes

I definitely second this. It's incredibly beautiful.

L'Occitane Neroli - pure creamy orange blossoms...just sampled it last night and that was/is my instant reaction!

I have to agree if it is the original L'Occitane Neroli ( talked my sis in law into buying a bottle 4 years ago and did not buy one for myself like an idiot). it is the best. I also enjoy Annick Goutal Neroli, it is very fresh and zingy. It does not last long on skin but while it does its amazing.

Orange Blossom, my favourite flowery scent.

I agree, but the L'Artisan FdO is tough to wear as it's really quite sharp. I find the orange blossoms blended with others, are the best and most wearable, especially if they are skin scents.

FdO by Serge Lutens - complex and intense
Narcisse Noire - deep and dark
Madame X - sultry and sexy
Narcisse Blanc - ladylike, with a a small hint of OB

I've been enjoying Laura Mercier Neroli, a disparaged cosmetic line/mall scent that is, from other reports, lacking in much of anything except its provenance at the makeup counter. I used to have the L'Occitane Neroli, but ultimately it proved a bit rough on me (and oddly similar to Dior Addict in some facets) and tiresome after several hours.

The LM Neroli has something I hate--freesia--done in a way that I can tolerate without singling it out for criticism. I find this scent very wearable and likely to appeal to those who like the Rocher version.

I went to some lengths to get a large (and costly) decant of that L'Artisan for a friend of mine, who pronounced it ungainly on the basis of the beeswax, which is what I thought set it apart. That and its transparency.

Chacun a son nez.

A good all-natural orange blossom soliflore is Ayala Moriel Zohar.

Do you want to have some fun? Find out what real orange blossom absolute and neroli essential oil smell like. (Neroli comes from orange blossom, it is the heat distilled product, rather than the solvent extracted product of the same flower.) You could order samples from Eden Botanicals, but neither is very wearable as a perfume. It's more of an instructional exercise; she would be better able to identify these notes in perfume after smelling them.

Perhaps a good compromise would be to smell something close--a perfume that smells like orange blossom absolute is Madini Azahar.

But, do you want to know the truth? People generally like a little orange, mandarin, lemon, and neroli essential oils in their orange blossom perfume, plus a few other florals, and some nice ambery base.

There are some great perfumes that feature orange blossom, but they share the stage with jasmine and other notes. Hermes 24, Faubourg is a wonderful and well-balanced Oriental with a nice orange blossom component.

If she'd like to try something different, some neroli that is not citrusy or fresh, check out Etat Libre d'Orange Divin Enfant. It's for naughty, grown-up kids. The notes are:
top: orange blossom, guimauve (something sweet)
middle: mokka, rose
base: amber, leather, tobacco, musk

Nicolai's New York opens with a beautiful orange blossom accord. The orange is quiet after half an hour but it's still there. She might like to try something with woods to get the sense of desert grasses and dust.
