Diaries

I was wondering whether anyone keeps a diary?

I love writing, but I am also quite a private person. One good way of bridging both was to keep a diary - and I've kept one ever since I was 17 or so. It's a good way to record the most private thoughts, daily happenings and even some x-rated stuff - hoping of course none of this ever sees the light of day.

I usually type it out on my pc and make print outs - however no one gets to read it. Some friends know that I keep one - and I get bugged with the question - "am I in it?" Being a tease, my favourite answer is "if you are, you'll never know"

What medium do you use? What do your record? Do you let anyone read it?

Isn“t just writing in the SOTD-thread enough? It should cover the important things in life... in a perfectly public way.

I kept a diary as a teenager, until certain family members found my writings, felt they had a right to read them, and then made a big deal over what they read. Now, many years later, I can't be bothered, although the idea is appealing. Journaling requires a discipline that I'm lacking.

I've kept a diary since my teenage years, more or less regularly.

for a very long time i kept online journals in the hopes of someday publishing them. but now, i go back over my deadjournal, various livejournals, and my most recent myspace journal and sort of have a pained feeling while reading them. I suppose part of it was show, part of it was me trying to be a very open person while searching for truths... blah blah blah.

now, i can't be bothered. I wish i could write like that. I love to write and fancied going into creative writing in college (an even more useless degree than what i already have, heh) but no... i don't have the discipline, much like lilybelle mentioned...

though if i put my mind to it, i can come up with some twisted things... (much of what i prefer to write is sci-fi/thriller/horror)

I did when I was younger, then I just burnt them. My fear was I would die and someone would read them. I'm very private, so the thought of someone else reading them was disturbing. It was functional and helped me work out some issues, for a time it was required for one of my classes and I kept it up through college. It was a useful tool and when it fulfilled the purpose I got rid of them. Maybe I'm just paranoid! lol

Wasn't it Mae West who quipped - "keep a diary, and one day, it'll keep you"?

I don't keep one. I even gave up on a blog I started because I felt it would reveal too much.

Hi....excellent thread....

I had a diary since one month ago, because I want to writte all my feelings, thoughts, etc....

Reasons....? Therapy....thats it

I writte it in my mail....Its very private.....I thought to have a blog, but no.....maybe some people know me....I prefer my mail...

I writte simple things, not very long, about 10 lines a day....someday yes, someday no......No rules....When I want, I writte......

If you want, private me....we can share experiences....

Blessings!

I've had a journal since I was about 18 - sometimes I write in it more than others. Noone reads it except me, it's my own private stuff.

I highly recommend it.

I kept journals in Mead notebooks from about 5th grade through maybe my sophomore or junior year of college. I wrote with Pilot Precise V5 pens, & my entries were color coded to match my mood. Black was bad mood, blue was good, purple was if something really monumental happened, & red was if something catastrophic (in my teenage mind) happened. I think I still have all of those. I have a livejournal that I wrote in for less than a year, & that was maybe 4 or 5 years ago now. Haven't done any journaling since, for some reason.
