44 samples arrived: 90% a letdown!

44 samples:

90% a letdown, some samples will hopefully arrive in the next days.

Straight to heaven? No way! A taste of Heaven also left me: meh

Niche! Trendy! The latest fuss on basenotes ....

is that funny tea note the house note of Perfumerie Generale??

Duro! That one is quite sharp, isn't it? Phew ....

OK, at least I now know why Czech & Speake is all about FINE AROMATICS:

Neroli I already own a bottle and it's indeed awesome! Aromatic!

Oxford & Cambridge took me by surprise: Awesome Aromatic Lavender and Mint.

As you can see I'm quite drunk and maybe will continue this pattern tomorrow or later today (Holiday the next two days!)

But Ambre Narguile was easily the best of those 44.

Black Tie by Washington Tremlett (who invented the tie btw.) was another stunner. I probably ....

Hey, and Serge Noir is probably even more so BOTTLE WORTHY!

Thanks to spain for the Oak Moss No. 2 tip from Claus Porto (Musgo Real)

Last time I felt that joy and euphorism was when I tested Colonia Assoluta on a junk yard. It was occasionally, by accident, not that you think I go to junk yards to test samples, LOL ....

How many yet?

Hinoki is FBW! Very very special and without looking on the name of the sample it was obvieous:

This is special!

Narcisse Noir by Caron also made my day. Fabulous!

That was it!

The rest was a let down!

Dr Creed, Im sure the labels on the colognes read: "not to be ingested". Buddy YOU PUT THEM ON YOUR SKIN. *hic!*

Send the samples to me.... NOW

Geo F. Trumper - Bay Rum: Tip from spain, but no bay rum. There's a lot of clove and carnation, almost natural, but where's the bay rum?

Where's the BAY - RUM ???

Acqua di Sale by Il Profumo: Wow, this is too perfumey. Sandflowers by Montale is definitely better and not so perfumey and Aqua Motu is a funny drunken penguin wiggle - wiggle ....

Tauers Incense Extreme left me cold. Hear that? It's unbalanced.

L'air du désert marocain was good because of this, but Incense Extreme left me cold really.

Incense Rose is on the way ....

Norma Kamali - Incense: No way! Stinker! Go away to PS2 Sables world ....

Red Aoud by Montale: I was really looking foreward to this! I almost bought a bottle blind.

This was another letdown. Basically it smalls like Chocolate Greedy without the hardcore chocolate. But still enough choco to go to choco island ....

One more beer please ....

LOL

Gang sniffing can be so much fun, watching from the sidelines - no?

*takes a shot of opal*

Ok now reading it again.

I'm not getting chocolate in red oud, I feel cheated

Another round on me!

Looking forward to read the whole thing

Gang sniffing is FUN. The more, the better!

Much has been talked about the new Vetiver by Lubin.

Indeed: It smells 99% the same as the vintage Guerlain Vetiver.

Is that a good thing?

Yes! I think so.

Diptyque's Oyedo!

First I literally saw Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria's Pamplune with some edges cut off.

Zeste Mandarine Pamplemousse?? NO way!

Cuir Ottoman I fell in love with without even smelling it. Now that I have, I'm a wise man.

If this is a leather up front, I mean there are about ten leathers out there which beat this without even having a hangover yet. I will try this again, but as for now I'm not impressed.

And hey, I feel cheated all the time!

Let's see,

There are roughly 12,000 fragrances,
Let's assume that 45% are male or unisex,
and that 90% of those are a 'letdown',
minus the 270 in your wardrobe,
leaves you with at least another 270 stellar fragrances to discover.

You're only halfway through your journey!

I bet that I've not even started. This whole idea of "knowing the good stuff" is ridiculous.

1) Can I have the Norma Kamali Incense? I've been wanting to check that out.

2) I too, recently received about 50 niche samples over the course of 2 weeks in 5 orders. Of the 50, I'd say that there's 30 I like. Of those those 30 there's 10 I really like a lot. Of those 10 I'd put 4-6 on my 'must buy a bottle list'. Not that I wouldn't take a bottle of any of those 30 I liked, but I wouldn't pay $150+ for one.

Of the 6 I want bottles of, one of them is Hinoki, 2 Parfumerie Generales, one Frederic Malle, one Serge Lutens, and one Chanel Exclusif.

I can relate.

As for leather:

I was at the final concert two days ago (Slut and Blackmail - the legendary Poolbar Festival) wearing Cuir Mauresque (Serge Lutens exclusive) and this gave me the extra kick which only Tabac Blond Extrait (Urn) could deliver. But I think they are quite different all in all. Oh I felt like I was in heaven all the time, I realized all the young ladies coming close, some more than twice with some wiggling penguins behind. LOL. I guess I was the attraction of the day that evening. LOL.

But I had to re-apply after two hours, it wasn't all that present to me and the magic was somehow gone, but after re-application on the stinky toilet the force was intact again.

Tabac Blond wouldn't have to be reapplicated.

I'm loving this thread!

I share your enthusiasm with trying a lot of scents at once AND feeling let down by most of them, especially when it comes to niche frags. I do try to take my time but going all at it is fun, too

I wish my holidays were as fun as Dr. Creed's time off. Fun thread.

As well I love you all! (Michael Jackson waving, without the mask ....)

Actually I only have HOLIDAY tomorrow as it occurs to me. One more beer? No!

The day after tomorrow I have to work again, maybe some physical action to balance (body - soul - mind)

Nevermind. Nirvana?

What fragrance now?

Right at the moment?

Special - Special

How about? Stop.

First Five o' clock au Gingembre: The not so new Lutens'

Tea for one light??? Tea for two more light??

Pheeww. It's good, it's finally tea, somehow.

No, I'm not impressed. Serge Noir is better and more present.

Oyedo by Diptyque: Man, this is not worth the emty sample vial ....

FBW? Just kiddin'!

That reminds me of my first encounter with "just kiddin'!"

I was in Portugal, I was 19 years old and early in the morning, around 10'30' I went into the bathrooms and used a comb that was lying on the shelf. Some guy came in and told me I'm just using the DOG's comb!

What??

"JUST KIDDIN!"

Ah, it's moments like these that make drinking worth the hangover. What does 90% of 44 samples matter in the grand scheme of things, next to universal peace, love, and understanding? Cheers!

44 samples of frags on the wall

44 samples of frags!

You take one down, and pass it around

43 samples of frags on the wall!

This is exactly right! From the fingers of the inebriated--greatest wisdom! Let this be a lesson to many of us.

Exactly right. Five O'Clock au Gingembre is good, but it's half or a quarter the scent that Tea for Two is. Same smell, but no ooomph. (Same enough smell, I mean, for the purists out there.) The tea is great, but it's a boyscout version of Tea for Two.

But.. but.. the name is so fancy : Five O'Clock au Gingembre.

I haven't smelled it yet though.

I very much like my 5OClock au Gingerbre sample. There's spicy gingerbread in there, but a whole lot more as well, all intertwined with tea notes. I'll have to try Tea for Two as soon as possible....

Tea for Two is just killer. So good, so long lasting, so rich that you can only wear it October through March in the Northern Hemisphere. The depth and tenacity are pat-yourself-on-the-back-for-purchase variety.

That is exactly what I expect from L'Artisan

I must try this asap!
