Anyone Try Serge Noire yet?

If so, what were your impressions. Where did you find it available? I don't want to shell out $10 to try it through the Perfumed Court! I notice Luckyscent doesn't have it yet.

Hiya! It's fine and light, a catalogue of the past scents in succession: on me, smoky Fumerie Turque, + lavendar -> Gris Clair, + honey -> Chergui, +spices -> Arabie.. and so on, jasmine too, benzoin, many other notes rolling on. I'd buy a bottle if it last more than 40 mins on me. I've read that it lasts almost a day for others, so.. *sigh*.. Hope it works out better for you should you try it.

I was given a sample and have tried it about twice. I'm not too good at giving notes and comparing, but the thing that struck me most is the development from the top notes to the drydown. I find it's not a "noir" scent at all, but rather warm (a delightful drydown) and really dry. I'll probably get a bottle soon.

It's nothing sort of magnificent to me!

Very austere at first, straight frankincense, pyrocaustic and very dry, then a wonderful warmth envelopping you, rising up from the depths, with a little spicy touch.

Definitely in accordance to the canon and in a way a wonderful recapitulation of the ideas of the line. Same thing happens with the exclusive, El Attarine, in a completely different treatment, of course (reviewed it too)

I think that Helg perfectly describes Serge Noire for me!

Oh, now I really can't wait to get to Munich and try this! I may have to splurge for a decant of El Attarine, too. Sigh.... Hopefully there'll be some overwhelming note, like cumin, that I can't wear, and my bank account will be saved.

I love it!

I think it's out at the usual suspects mid-month

Nice review Mike! And Helg too!

Ooh I just got this a couple of days ago. The first time or two I tried it, it was just a loud, brash, potpourri.

Ironically, my perception of it has changed in that I see it as something very smooth. It's full of cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. All dark and dry spices, leaning towards the bitter with uncharacteristically very little sweets, though to start off there's some honey and a little musk keeping it warm and soft.

Those are the first to go, leaving a suprisingly light veil of spices.

I'm shocked at how poor the longevity of this is - or at least how fast my nose forgets it! I have to test to see if others can smell it. I suspect it's more impressive in warmer weather, though it very much smells like fall.

I find that often the haute concentration perfumes in the Lutens line are some of the softest amd shortest lived. I guess the high concentration is just to keep them alive!

This is definitely try before you buy as the bitterness, barky and pungent character of some of the spices are sure to put off some.

I'd give it a five stars, but the longevity is really frustrating.

It was one of the samples I got free with my Bois Blond - along with a Five O'Clock Five O'Clock Au Gingembre mini. Both suffer from poor longevity and sillage on me, so I feel I can't really give an accurate review - they don't last long enough for me to do so!

I get a sharp Virginia Cedar pencil-wood note, along with smoke, some nutmeg and spices, but mostly the cedar. It's mostly gone after an hour or two's wearing. As Vibert noted - in fact his Basenotes review matches my impression almost identically - it contains none of the fruity sweet notes Lutens gravitates towards, which is a big plus for me, but an absence isn't enough to win over my nose.

Can't give much analysis here because I only sampled it once weeks ago but I will say that I loathed it. I found it outrageously bad -- confused, flat, sweaty-sweet, like being stuck in a crowd of unwashed people who happen to be eating dates or something cloying. I would recommend, if you want to sample it, that you order it as part of an Aedes order -- seven samples for 15 dollars -- so you don't feel bad if you happen to hate it too.

My impression was similar at first Chestnut - seemed like a pot-pourri explosion, brash and a total mess. But now it's smooth and really well crafted!

I smell a strong jasmine in here - am I hallucinating?

It lasts a long time on me. I like it very much and bought a bottle a few weeks ago. Strong cumin note, so try before buying.

Luckyscent has it now.

I'm itching to try this now...so many different perspectives means at the very least, it's interesting.

I was thrilled with El Attarine, again, poor longevity issues, but otherwise it's remarkable.
