Brain dysfunction tied to fibromyalgia - Hippocampus/olfactory cortex

the article here is on MSNBC

Why do I care? I have fibromyalgia which has limited my mobility and I found and fell in love with basenotes and especially found that fragrances take my mind off my symptoms.

After being told to my face by pain specialists and other doctors that fibromyalgia was a bullshit diagnoses and reading the science section of the NY Times where doctors were going publicly on record that fibromyalgia was the syndrome de jour and nothing real; these findings come as somewhat of a relief and a curse. We'll see where this goes from here.

I thought I'd post this for anyone here suffering or who has family or friends, because if this is true then there finally is an etiology ( set of causes, or manner of causation of a disease or condition ).

Yo! Freed-riche! Many thanks for sharing the article and for sharing your experience.

I have several friends who suffer from this disease - one in my tai chi class who says she believes that her daily practice of chi gong has greatly reduced the symptoms....http://www.jrheum.com/subscribers/03/10/2088.html

Dunno if that's any help......

Thank you Taolady! Help spread the info to your friends. The appearance of this on MSNBC is significant since the NY Times didn't know what hit them after they ran an article that seemed like dis-information contrived by insurance companies. The Times was overwhelmed by patients and advocacy groups for not doing fact checking before this article ran about a disorder the the Center for Disease Control is taking very seriously.

And I'll look into your link.

Thank you KBE. That is a pretty good site but Dr Weil doesn't get all the respect he deserves having been a co-hort of Dr. Leary's in the 60's. I did my best to keep up with them in the research they were involved in (LSD) and it hasn't hurt me a bit

I think this may be the most comprehensive site for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. A very active message board. One I'm usually too tired to read.

http://www.immunesupport.com/

After years thinking I had MS I got a referral to a rheumatologist who lectures in NYC and NJ on arthritis and fibromyalgia. He's my main man and the staff is very accomodating. I have also had mini strokes following anesthesia after arthroscopic surgery and I have have a broken back from falls (down a flight of stairs once) since the surgery left me with such intense vertigo and balance problems.

Hey the bright side is that if I never became disabled I would still be freelancing 12 hours a day and would have never had time to read baselines or bask in the aromas.

Enough about me. I'd love to see a Health section on basenotes. There are a ton of really bright people who could probably help others and themselves with their health issues.

Why do healthy people always have the best health insurance? Isn't that back-asswards?
