As part of the emergency response network in Los Angeles County, California, my partner and I responded to the location of the Metrolink crash that occurred Friday evening just northwest of Los Angeles. My heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims. May the injured have a speedy recovery, and may those who didn't survive rest in peace.
This was a bad crash, and thankfully, the train was not in the push mode, or there would probably have been a lot more casualties. Emergency personnel responded from all over, put aside their own feelings, and quickly started doing what had to be done under difficult conditions. The families and friends of the victims can rest assured that these people did the best they could to save lives. The injured were quickly removed from the wreckage and needed medical care given, and fire fighters worked throughout the night to remove the dead from the wreckage. The dead were treated with respect and dignity. There was one police officer at the scene who did what he had to do, even though there was a very real possibility that his wife was on that train. Thankfully, she was not. We all owe the emergency personnel our gratitude for a job well done.
