That Lover of Lists, the Basenoter of Ballots, the Sultan of Surveys, the Purveyor of Polls, none but the only afraafra!

What is you favorite afraafra POLL? I'm not deriding him since these polls sometimes provide some interesting discussion. Note that these are the polls posted in the Male Fragrance Discussion boards except the most Popular Nose one.

Of course afraafra himself made a thread about his polls!

Here they are in order from newest to earliest:

1. (Oh not another) POLL: your favorite Musk?

2. Best DIOR male scent

3. Best Chanel Male Scent

4. "Dissecting Diptyque" your selection of the best of Dyptique scents

5. "V for VILLORESI" best of Lorenzo

6. 'THE TWO TAUERS" Poll: Andy Tauer Scents

7. Egoiste vs. Platinum Egoiste

8. Your Favorite Bulgari Male Scent

9. Best of: Serge Lutens -Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido

10. King of Classics!

11. Guerlain Male Scent Poll, 20 choices.

12. Davidoff Poll

13. Best Liz Claiborne scent

14. Best YSL male fragrance, a poll, choose at least 3

15. Vote for the Best Giorgio Armani Men's Fragrance, A Poll..

16. Poll most popular Noses..

Like reviewing a reviewer, eh?

Let me be the first to say, Im particularly fond of those that are marked "poll closed".

Lol!

And I might also mention, youve neglected to add those polls in the Ladies forums... such as:

POLL: Chanel "Les Exclusifs" which are worth getting?

Sexiest perfumes for women a Poll

Yves Saint Laurent.. Best Female Scents, your favorites

Don't get me wrong now, but afraafra is a SERIAL POLLER!
For its sheer simplicity and elegance, I voted for: "Poll: Egoiste vs. Platinum Egoiste , which do you prefer"

Re-reading the King of Classics! thread is quite amusing. As is the Liz Claiborne poll.

I left them out because the polls haven't infiltrated the Female boards too much

Polls? which polls!?
I like the noses one because for me it offered a reason why I like some perfumes of L´Artisan and disliked others, maybe its the nose who made it?

I really like afra's enthusiasm. Though his polls skew away from my preferences, so I don't vote in them. Am I still allowed to have an opinion?

afra!

His enthusiasm is why I posted a poll about polls
post #14 of 45
I like polls because for me they are a valuable educational tool. I am glad afraafra is a member of this community and I hope that he, as well as other Basenoters, will continue to introduce serious (not comedic) polls.

Those are my favorites as well. It helps their archival qualities so they can help generations to come!

In truth I liked the Diptyque poll most. I found I really wanted to say things on it, and thus I voted for it by how it made me work my keyboard.

I really like SirSlarty's poll here, and the work he's done to link to Afraafra's polls. Thanks very much for the fun!

Yup, nothing against him. Like I said. His polls make for good conversation. Half is about fragrances and the other about polls. Haha.

It's great that there was talk of a relatively obscure niche house like Diptyque. Greatly drives up interest. Like all the talk of oud made me re-try the Montale fragrances.

I'm waiting for a best vetiver poll

im waiting when a NEW poll will be posted
"was SirSlarty poll necessary about my polls?"
Great data compiling SS ......
Afraafra is indeed the current ... " King of Polls ".... and we don't need a poll to confirm that !
I doubt if anyone in the recent past been so prolific in starting polls .
I thought that Afra missed a good opportunity with this "Which perfume reviewer do you prefer?" thread in the Fragrance Industry Discussion. Curiously, not a poll!

I voted for "Favorite Noses."

I voted for the Diptyque poll also, I find them under discussed here on BN.

First of all I'd like to thank the members of the Academy...for the lifetime achievement Award.
Seriously I'm overwhelmed, but there is an impostor in our board who has been posting polls in my name(!).
I am glad everyone unanimously liked the polls, just kidding..
My own favs were the small Niche polls like Villoresi , and the women's polls, the women are so sweet and polite and actually the response was good SirSlarty.
Dimitri had PM'ed me pleading that I stop posting more polls, if he looks anything like his avatar, I'm not risking any more polls, even may leave the forum.

Oh, now you've gone and done it!

Grant, can you program the poll function so that an electric shock is transmitted to afra's keyboard each time a vote is counted? I believe you would see a dramatic increase in voter turnout!

p.s. Go afra!

Nah, he should make a poll

"Would you vote on another of my polls?"

Like reviewing a reviewer, eh?

Please allow three questions, Sirslarty:
1 - There are no reviews! What exactly do you mean?
2 - What is a 'comedy option' ?
3 - At this very moment 32 voters left 76 votes, 12 of which went to 'Polls are unnecessary'. The table shows these as 37.50%.
- I make that 15.79%. What went wrong in your poll's design

narcus, it's obvious to me that no offense was meant and non taken, I know Sirslarty well and I'm sure he did not mean any disrespect or whatever, we need some fun threads to make things a bit more interesting on the Forums, but being careful NOT to say anything offensive is I think essential, and speaking for myself I try to be respectful to any poster but sometimes words can be misinterpreted .

afraafra, I think you rock.

You and several others are keeping it interesting (at least to me) and fresh and your effort to learn and gather info is is an honest effort I am sure.

Did I set a record for ands?

12 divided by 32 (the number of voters) = 37.50%
Multiple choice polls will add up to more than 100%

I agree that we need more lighthearted threads and lighthearted people. I am here because I enjoy the friendship as much as the subject matter.

You sure
What sense does it make to calculate percentages if they don't add up to 100 /
How about those 16 polls that form the basis of this poll? Most, if not all of them add up to 100%.
I am not about to re-check that, but I believe they are all multiple choice polls. Are you saying their design is wrong?
My point is: so far only 16% of all votes went to the comedy option (whatever that means) .

1. Reviewing a reviewer is like polling a poller.

2. Comedy option is something thrown in for those that don't care.

3. Ask SommervilleMetroMan. Hell if I know anything about numbers.

4. There is no four but you're taking this too seriously.

Yes, I am sure.

It makes sense from the perspective that 37.5% of the people who voted chose the comedy option.

It is 16% of all votes but that figure has been diluted to the extent that some people voted for more than one option.

Where is SommervilleMetroMan (Numbers that's what I do) guy when you need him(!)
I think the point from all this is, most members prefer "poll type" threads but not in the form of polls (That doesn't make sense but never mind).

Sorry for being late:
If 37.5% (or 34% today) of the people who voted chose the comedy option, then 197% of the people who voted chose some or all of the other options.
Diluted or inflated - or simply absurd?
