Givenchy
Givenchy III
(1970)

Top note: Aldehyde Complex, Bergamot oil, Galbanum, Gardenia, Peach
Middle note: Carnation, Jasmin, Jonquil, Lily of the Valley, Orris, Rose
Base note: Amber, Castoreum, Myrrh, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Vetiver
(2007)
Top Note: Galbanum, Hyacinth
Middle Note: Rose, Jasmine
Base Note: Oakmoss, Patchouli

This review is for the 2007 reissue. Unfortunately, the notes listed for this on the tester (and in other sources) are just a skeleton of the 1970 version. Whether any of the other original ingredients are present is very hard to say, as I never smelled the original; but it is just possible that Givenchy had some reason to give just the bare bones of the notes, and that not all of the original pyramid was eliminated. I certainly hope that is the case. In any event, the 2007 juice is still beautiful, and while it doesn't have a great deal of longevity, it is quite lovely while it lasts. It preserves the chypre character, right down to the oakmoss, which is commendable, because it is now restricted under EU rules. This version is available only in EdT. Whatever the answer to the question of reformulation, this is a very good scent — a definite "thumbs up."

Guerlain's Véga EdT - from a bottle produced between 1936 and the beginning of the fifties. Still no damage, except in the first 20 seconds of the top. A warm, shining fragrance, rich on bergamot, aldehydes, spicy flowers and wood.

- Ex Vinis - Fragranza Nr. 3 - Ribes Rubrum -

The third fragrance by Ex Vinis "Ribes Rubrum" found its inspiration in the legendary Brunello di Montalcino, whose primary notes are designed around forest fruits.

"Ribes Rubrum" is a warm and rich fragrance with seductive fruity aromas from bergamot and wild berries (blueberries, wild strawberries and red currants) together with floral heart notes of rose, mimosa and violet. The base note distinguishes itself with a gentle interplay of white musk and vanilla.

Composition: Description

Head: Bergamot, Forest Fruits (Blueberries, Wild Strawberries, Red Currants)
Heart: Orangeblossom, Rose, Mimosa, Violet
Base: White Musk, Vanilla

Ribes Rubrum means Red Currant in english.

SOTD: Davidoff - Adventure.

I bought it in the summer, because I was looking for a casual summer fragrance. I tried it a few times in the summer and thought it was okay. Today I found out that Adventure is actually more suited for fall because of the spicy notes. Longevity too is better in cooler weather.

Looks like Ms. Q. is trying to green us all up! Thanks to her I'm spending the morning in a sample she sent me of her beloved Nanadebary Green - my second try at this frag.

On me the lemony opening is dry, but quickly sweetens to a light leafy greenness that is more floral than green. There's a hint of wintergreen in it somewhere and the bottom's slightly herbed. Don't think it does for me what it obviously does for her very fine nose...for now I'm gonna stick with (sigh) Central Park and Cabochard.... (I know - I know....)

Vetyver by Givenchy (third time from sample - thanks petruccijc)

A vetiver fragrance worthy of respect and admiration. If I didn't already own the vintage EdC Vetiver by Guerlain, I think the Givenchy would've dazzled me more.

For now, though my heart is Guerlain.

similar to Serge Lutens Daim Blond.
