Today I Bought - October '08 Edition

Well, I finally got Mitsouko by Guerlain, in the parfum version. I got a vintage bottle on Ebay at a fairly good price.

The juice starts out sharply pungent and green, whereupon in a few minutes the moss/chypre effect builds and builds up on my skin. Wears really close to my skin - but the scent is deep and very complex.

The first night I wore this, I received a couple compliments.

I'm saving this one for special occasions - I've gotta make 7.5 ml last.

I just bought the sampler pack for Sinfonia di Note from luckyscent (also, LuckyScent will be stocking Czech & Speake!)

Here are some descriptions of the line
Poudre d'Epices
This aptly named scent is a ravishing rhapsody of powder and spice.
Notes: geranium, green notes, cinnamon, black pepper, floral notes, musk, woods, spices

Coeur de Noisette
A luscious blend of coconut, amber and hazelnut that is sinfully delicious.
Notes: coconut, amber, hazelnut, woods, fruit notes, floral notes, spices

Blanc des Cotons
Pure white cotton sheets line-dried in a meadow and then ironed to a satisfying crispness.
Notes: floral notes, lavender, amber, vanilla, guaiac wood

Ecorce d'Orange
A delightfully vivid orange scent you can smell the oranges ripening on the tree in the brilliant Mediterranean sun.
Notes: aldehydes, orange, mandarin, lemon, bergamot, musk notes

Amande Sucree
A darkly delicious almond with a hard candy coating and filigree of white jasmine like a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
Notes: bergamot, jasmine, floral notes, almond, vanilla, wood notes, sandalwood, amber

Fleur de Santal
A showstopping take on sandalwood that is a bewitching blend of sultry and cozy. Notes: bergamot, floral notes, sandalwood, musk, patchouli

Bouquet de Bois
A winding path in the woods. The path is overgrown, but not at all ominous or threatening this is a forest that beckons and welcomes.
Notes: cedar, bergamot, geranium, floral and wood notes

Saveur d'Artichaut
Complicated and unusual and inspired by the artichoke in bloom, majestic and primordial. This is green and vegetal and herbaceous, with a trace of citrus and more than a hint of earth.
Notes: bergamot, aromatic notes, basil, moss, artemisia, wood notes

It smells good! And I think it'll smell even better when I'm over my cold.

That's awesome! I really want C/S Oxford and Cambridge Lavender and have been putting it off. Hopefully, their price will be lower than Cambridge Chemists'

EDIT

Too bad.. they're going to be $165 on luckscent.com. Cambridge has them for $115.

Yesterday I bought Bois 1920 Agrumi and Parfums Raffy Dragon from a basenoter. I also received Annick Goutal Duel in the mail.

I went to Marshall's looking for Antidote, but alas, they only had the AS Balm. I resisted the temptation to buy several "lesser" scents from the typical selection at TJ Maxx and Marshall's. I WANTED SOMETHING NEW BADDDDD!!! I bought some dress pants, socks and a really sweet watch instead.

Sometimes I want to buy a scent just for the rush! I'm getting better at resisting the temptation to buy something for just that reason. But still, it's hard...

Wow! That is really crazy. I've known that L$ has higher prices than everyone else, but a $50 difference? C'mon guys!

Velvet Gardenia by Tom Ford (Private Blends)

Just a mini tester, not the whole bottle (which I would never use it all). This stuff is just so realistic of a gardenia in full bloom.

The only other size I saw was the HUGE keg/fountain for only $2000 euros. What a bargain! LOL.

$225 for 50ml = $4.5 per ml or $2,767.80 for 1000ml = $2.80 per ml = Ridiculous pricing i agree.

The fountain is not a deal IMO

While Mike was getting his Mitsouko parfum, I went and got me some Shalimar parfum. It too wears close to the skin, and is gratifyingly darker and smokier than the other concentrations.

I also finally broke down and bought Dzongkha. I'm glad I did, too - the stuff has always worn like a dream on me, and I've been going back and forth on buying it since it came out.

While I was at it, I got my wife a bottle of Bel Respiro. (Yes, we have a Chanel Exclusives boutique here.) She's never worn a green scent before, but I think Bel Respiro, with its curvaceous outline and smooth iris, will appeal to her.

Enjoy that Cuir d'Iris... my bottle arrived yesterday and I'm LOVING it today. I wish BN had it in the database so I could review it. Dark, rich leather that slowly softens to a creamy leather, made powdery via iris, with hints of chocolate. I applied at 8am this morning and as of 5:30 today it's still going strong.

For myself, my TDC Bois d'Iris, in a '48 heurs' travel atomizer, arrived today. I got it on eBay for $39.

That's neat.

I am kind of glad that my mom didn't wear Mitsouko. That way, I have no feminine associations with the scent. It's my scent.

I bought Dior Homme, it should be arriving soon. It was not a blind buy, but I only sampled it once while sampling loads of other scents. It struck me as different, and I found a bottle on Amazon at a decent price so I just pulled the trigger. I cannot help having high expectations for this one!

So far I have purchased...
1. Acqua di Parma's Mirto from the Blu Med Line.
2. Diamonds for Men by Armani
My next purchase will be Polo Modern Reserve by RL.....I am also going to purchase L'Homme by YSL.

Not today, yesterday, I bought
Infusion D'homme (lady also gave me a sample of it?)
Dior Homme (replacement, I'm about to run out)
Rive Gauche pour Homme - a fantastic bargain. Apparently her store are no longer going to be selling it, so it was reduced down to £8!!
I noticed that they weren't displaying Gucci Pour Homme, (which was the only thing I had gone in to sample) so I asked if they had got rid of that. She told me they had but gave me a full size tester bottle that she'd kept onto in the stockroom (no lid) because I'm a regular customer!
And I received a sample of 1million.

This week I received shipments of:

Arpege pour Homme (Lanvin)
Must de Cartier (Cartier)
Chamade Parfum (Guerlain)

It says a fresh spicy leather on the little packet. To me, I find it a sweet woody scent. No freshness, especially the opening which is quite a strong boozy smell. Drydown reminds me of Black XS, but richer. I honestly cannot smell the leather at all.

Today I purchased a vintage Habit Rouge 200ml EdT. I was gonna purchase Minotaure as well as Kouros and M7 but decided to wait until tomorrow.

I think he meant that Paco Rabanne 1 Million scent, not the "Really Super Cool Awesome MILLION BUCKS" crap.

I'm starting to ebay scents I don't wear enough to justify looking at next to the others... but I quickly replenished whatever leaves before it left with Chanel Coromandel today. It's really great stuff! (and jeez, I've got a lot of it now.. 200ml). I just put photos up in my album of the fun unpacking of it!

Congrats on this.... Coromandel is hands down my favorite Chanel and one my favorites of all time. I haven't bought the 200ml yet but once I'm done with my TPC decant I most certainly will. It's good that it comes in a large size b/c if you're like me you'll like bathing in it.

Anyway, today I bought:

Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental - my first SL!

Parfums Delrae Bois de Paradis - I thought I wanted Debut, but it took 5 minutes for this to be on my skin before I know I needed this.

Congrats bbBD - the purchase of one's first bottle of Serge Lutens is always a reason to celebrate.

Isn't Bois de Paradis wonderful? Roses and cinnamon never smelled so good.

Odeur 53 and Odeur 71 by Comme des Garcons (mini's)

Bought these used from Ebay.

I love O71 and I wanted it back in my wardrobe after I finished up my decant of it months ago - the O53 for more 'completist' reasons, it's still a headache inducer for me.

Today, I bought the following:

2 bottles of 4.0 oz Polo Modern Reserve and a regular Polo deodorant stick to wear with it.

6.7 oz bottle of Prada Infusion D'Homme and a matching shower gel

I am in love with both of these but I must say that I must write about Polo Modern Reserve. I am in Heaven!

I've been in a Guerlain mood recently, can you tell? Just call me Mr. Guerlain II.

I scored a vintage bottle of L' Heure Bleue in the Eau de Cologne formulation by Guerlain.

The top notes are gone, but the middle and base notes are still intact. This was a blind buy for me - I have never smelled LHB. It's incredibly wearable. I'm reminded of a fizzy, almond flavored cream soda. Just sweet enough, but still refreshing. Sillage is discreet (which is fine w/ me) and the longevity is excellent.

I'm very happy with this blind buy. After I'm comfortable with this formulation, I want to test the EdT, EdP and parfum. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Received in a trade - Dior Bois d'Argent.

Finally! I've been wanting to get this off my wishlist and into my wardrobe for a year. Many thanks to BNer mobyv for the trade.

Now... onto the next obscure Dior. I've been eying a bottle of Eau Fraiche de Christian Dior. Any recommendations on this? What little I've seen has been positive, and I have a thing for vintage and obscure Dior.

I know that Ruggles and bront82 own and wear EF. If you like Dior and you like Roudnitska (I see you own two Dior scents he did: Eau Savage and Diorella), then I think you'll enjoy EF.

IMO, it's a very summer scent - but don't let that stop you.
