I accidentally stumbled upon a site selling Russian perfumes:

Cross my heart and hope to die - I'm in no way affiliated to them. In fact, I think Russian perfumes a're kinda stinky, quite frankly, but I've known quite a few people in the States who actually like them.

So, what the heck, I thought I'd share.

Mind you - I have no idea who they are or whether they're reliable or not, but, considering the prices, maybe someone will want to take a shot.

Be warned, however - in my experience, Russian perfumes stay on you for days and days and days, so if you stumble upon a particularly disgusting scent, chances are you'll be wearing it for a week.

Posting in the Male Forum, as I feel you guys are more likely to risk it.

This is funny:

"Triple 1894. C1524
After shave splash
The Original Eau de Cologne, which undergoes triple filtration...."

Why do they filter it so many times? Is it a substitute for vodka?

The prices are really amazing. 4 dollars is the price of the alcohol and bottle alone. It is like getting the perfume for free. I am kind of tempted.

I've just bought some of the perfumes. I was interested in the ones with Ylang-Ylang or blackcurrant notes. I will review some of them when I receive them. It is a risky bet, but I was feeling audacious tonight. The ones that I don't like, I'll give as a gift and tell that I bought them when I was in China. It is the perfect excuse.

There's one called Pasha! Doesn't sound like it's a clone of Cartier's version.

There's probably only the alcohol and bottle in it.

It's a legendary cologne, btw, and your musing about a substitution for vodka are...not entirely off-mark, shall we say.

I used to use colognes I didn't like as bathroom fresheners - half-untwist the cap and drop it in the tank. Feminine know-how.

"Pasha" in Russian is short for Pavel, a masculine name (similar to Paul).

They also carry Sasha (short for Alexander) and, I think, Alesha (short for Alexei).

I used to glue googly-eyes and yarn-hair on "Sasha" and give it as a gift to guys named Alexander.

I was baaaaaaaaaaaad.

Now the thing that I would like to know is this: were these perfumes created during the communist regime, or during the monarchy (Czar), or in recent years? If I knew this, I would have a good indication of their quality.

Judging by the bottles - recent days. Can't say how recent, though - they might have had them in stock for years by now. Or were you asking about the scents themselves? Sasha was around since the 70s at the least. Triple - I think that's been around even longer.

Red Moscow has been around forever (disgusting, btw, imho, but foreign tourists used to buy a LOT of it). The Lily of the Valley scent (if it's the Silver one, can't tell by the picture as it's so small) has been my grandma's favorite perfume. And I'm not a young girl, I have to say.
