I'm insane: I love blind buys

Yes is true, maybe I'm a frustrated gambler, maybe is a way to take a harmless risk, but its true: when I buy blind the scent smells better.

Le Troissième Homme, Sables, L'Autre... all without a previous testing, just looking at their composition, other products of the brand, and a little bit of intuition. Each time I swear "never again", but after a while... I'm craving again.

Only Third man was under my expectations, so I gave it to my father.

Now I'm watting for Minotaure and the idea of buying blind a really expensive bottle (I'm considering a bell jar ) make feel naughty and stupid at 50%.

Most of my wardrobe consists of blind buys.

I have only been disappointed with 2 (GIT and MI) and still evaluating Kouros - but I knew that would be questionable

Let me know how you like Minotaure as I am considering that one as well

The only thing I'd caution against is buying a bunch of frags that are all very similar, because I found that blind buying many different kinds of frags really helped me understand what this "game" is all about. Then, it's important not to just swap them off right away, but instead keep coming back to them every few weeks for a wearing, to see if you can appreciate, or at least understand them better.

It is normal to blind buy. I do it a lot. If I don't like the perfume, I can sell it at the marketplace with a small loss, or give it as a gift on Christmas.

Oh yes, buying blind is so exciting, especially if the frag works for you

What it's insane is not listening to Basnoters... bunch of enablers...

My For Sale list shows how much I like blind buying.

Blind-buying is fun. So is the stock market. And a game of cards with medium stakes. And a quick race down the street.

Okay, I guess I am a moderately risk-loving person.

Its like the Rolulette. I will tell you......I love blind buys, but I had horrible experiences also.

Example:

3 years ago I bought Joop! Results? No comments.
I finished that bottle yesterday.

I did a very audacious semi-blind buy recently. I spent a fortune and bought Muscs Koublai Khan (also known as MKK here at basenotes).

I had tried the wax sample, and I loved Kiehls musk oil. But it was still a bet. A dangerous bet. It proved to be a phenomenal success, but even if it were a disaster, I am sure I could have sold it at basenotes with a small loss.

I never recommend blind buys - it can be quite disastrous on one's pocket.

Having said that, I have made more blind buys this year, then ever before. I've reserved most of my blind buys for 'classic' fragrances - lot's of Guerlain's, which IMO you can never go wrong with. I've been very happy with all of them, actually.

Still, sampling before hand has saved me tons of time and money, knowing before hand that a fragrance I thought I would love just wasn't me.

I also bought Kouros blind. I was so scared of it in the beginning, but now I got used to it.
