New fragrance collection by Mark Buxton

Mark Buxton has launched a line of seven fragrances.

The concept is called "Metamorphoses of colours and moods", the fragrances are called Wood&Absinth, Black Angel, Hot Leather, English Breakfast, Around Midnight, Sounds&Visions, Nameless. Any experiences with these?

The cascade of new, upscale fragrance brands that enter the market with a carload of scents at the same time seems to be endless. As I appreciate Buxton's creations very much, I'll have to sample them... secretly hoping they'll not keep what they promise ('cause they're EUR 130 a bottle...)

Yikes...130 Euros...exchange rate is just too weak these days (especially here in Canada). Sounds interesting though!

They seem a bit mundane for someone like Buxton (looking at the website, notes, etc) -- really keen on sampling 'em though. Anyone know why distribution of the line is so widespread in Russia?

IMO, 130 Euros (175$?) is a bit on the hardcore side. I'd save it for buying say... Guerlain's SdV and Bois d'Armenie. I just wish them bottles were smaller. 50ml for 90$ would be perfect. And 7 scents at launch? Sheesh... I'm just scared I'll find them all FBW.

The listed notes for Nameless, Wood and Absinthe, and English Breakfast have me intrigued. I'm glad English breakfast wasn't composed to smell like its namesake with notes of black pudding, lamb chop, bacon, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans and egg.

Thanks, Gerald. If they are anything close to Marc Buxton's MoslBuddJewChristHinDao (of which I have a tiny 0.5 ml) they will definitely be worth a sampling.

Someone posted about these over the summer. They quoted a MUCH cheaper price though. Was it Moonfish?

This evening Mark Buxton launched his new collection at the Parfumerie Osswald in Zurich Switzerland. All of his seven fragrances are very pleasing indeed. They are beautifully balanced and incredible refined. My two favorites are Hot Leather and Nameless, both develop to exquisite and sophisticated scents. A winner collection in my opinion.

It finally happens! The Buxton line in Europe!!!
Here in Russia it was presented as the selective perfume line from Buxton specially made for Iles des Beaute perfume chain.
And now I do not know what to think about the info.
Did Iles des Beaute lied first?
Did they refuse to be the only buyer and seller due to crisis and not-so-high sales?
do not know...
The price is the same here.

And from my tests - I appreciate Wood&Absinthe the most. It`s anisic vetiver, absinthe and cedar-juniper combo in wein of Sycomore, but more alive and fresh.

I've sampled six of them now and will need some more time until I'll have formed a final opinion.
My first impressions on the seven perfumes are a bit ambivalent. Two of them are really beautiful, Wood & Absinthe and Hot Leather. Black Angel is very nice in the drydown, yet on the whole not very innovative. I didn't like Sounds & Vision, Nameless, and English Breakfast which are well-done and inoffensive, but also slightly generic. Will test Around Midnight tonite.

I agree with Hot Leather. This scent satisfies with an incredible longevity (14 hours at least on me) and changes over time from a slightly fruity opening to a leathery heart and later deep woody-leathery drydown with hints of patchouly (as far as I meant to notice). The leather aspect never gets harsh. The perfume marks presence all the time without ever beeing overwhelming. Whiffs come and go even after 12 hours. Hot Leather is a wonderful experience of an elegant, refined, from a master hand composed and quite manly fragrance for formal or casual use. I highly recommend trying it.

Luckyscent is offering a sample pack for $25.00. I received the e-mail yesterday and I just got my package about 5 minutes ago.

I think The Perfume Court also has a special on Mark Buxton decants.

As I said in the other Mark Buxton thread here that was started the other day, Hot Leather is a rip of Cuir Amethyste. I love C.A, but for anyone thinking of a blind purchase of H.L, try before you buy.

I've only tried Hot Leather and was underwhelmed. My nose was perhaps playing tricks on me as I sampled lots of stuff that day but all I could get was fruity sweet barely leather ala Daim Blond. Too safe and bland for my taste. Never smelled Cuir Amethyste.

Sorry about that - I searched buxton and it didn't show since it was under buxton's. I could merge them, but it might be a big mess since the timelines overlap so much.

Just remember, one of the perfumer's tricks to make the smell of leather is combining several scent chemicals, one of which smells like violets. I have noticed it in many leather scents. Anyone else notice this?

Around Midnight reminds me of CDG White, but I like AM even better. Jasmine in the heart of the fragrance blends wonderfully with the smoky top.

I liked Around Midnight and Black Angel the best. I prefer the Cuir Amethyste to Buxton's version, but I have to give them a full wearing.
