Boo-tiful Halloween music

Well, in anticipation of Halloween, here is my favorite spooky song. Feel free to post other classics and new stuff!

"Monster Mash" – the classic with Bobby "Boris" Picket and the Cryptkickers, and a nice montage of b/w movie clips.

Berlioz - 5th Movement, Symphonie Fantastique
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrezpUWIY98

You need to wait until about 3:25 for it to really kick in.

Prokofiev - Montagues & Capulets
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI9ak...eature=related

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYmIKcP7Nbc

JS Bach - Toccata & Fugue in D minor
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipzR9bhei_o

Fun, Odysseusm!

Thanks for these, I especially appreciate the classical refs and of course Oldfield (used for Exorcist, I think...)
How 'bout the theme music for the eerie, surreal "Twin Peaks" TV series?

From Disney's 1940 Fantasia, based on Modest Mussorgsky's A Night on Bald Mountain.

I love Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre. It sounds fun to me. I always imagine couples whirling around a candlelit ballroom in gothic costume.

I also love the Toccata and Fugue! Especially the really "busy" part! Sorry, I know nothing about music terminology, so that's the best I can describe it.

Excellent suggestions, keep 'em coming.
Before Alvin and the Chipmunks, there was "The Flying Purple People Eater" by Sheb Wooley.
Enjoy this blast from the early 60's with a nice slide show.

The Dies Irae (Day of Wrath) are always good for spooky scenarios. Mozart, Verdi and Berlioz have good Dies Irae compositions, my favorite being Verdis. This exceprt fo the mass has also inspired Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre and Berlioz 5th Movement, Symphonie Fantastique which I also like. Night on Bald (or bare) Mountain is another good one.
A Mexican Parody metal group called Moderatto has an interesting version of Ghostbusters. A bit repetitive, but good for fun background music. Unfortunately I could not find it on the internet.
about 3/4 of the music I like would fit very well in here.
This one is kinda funny..OK, it's not. Don't watch, it's bad

Yes, you're quite right.

Thought of a couple more:

Grieg - In The Hall of the Mountain King
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzyi3C4gNnE

Carl Orff - O Fortuna (Carmina Burana)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_Eya3_IqOQ

Well, thanks for the Carmina Burana suggestions. Let’s tie it to a scent, how about Old Spice!!! Yeah baby!
[[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtk7m_fUmqY"]YouTube - Old Spice (aftershave) advert Xmas 1989[/ame]

And just to go back to the “Twin Peaks” vibe – a spooky, evocative song by Chris Isaak, “Wicked Game”.

Mussorgsky just lends itself to Halloween, doesn't it?

I also love Pictures at an Exhibition: The Gnome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMu5vi_7A8M).

And anything by Schoenberg seems Halloween-y too. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-fyWc6Mpd8)

For Canadians, this last one will bring back happy memories. A cult classic children’s show from the 1970’s, “The Hilarious House of Frightenstein:

Well, I’ll do a “rival songs” entry here. This thread would not be complete without Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London”

His version… he’s havin’ fun. Live in 1982

And the unique David Lindley and his rockin’ band El Rayo-X. Having even more fun!

Props to the late great Z-man but I like Mr. Dave’s version even better.

That's a great addition. Vic Mizzy, the composer and singer of "The Addams Family" theme song also wrote the theme to "Green Acres". He coached the cast of Addams Family on the finger-snapping. Vic passed away earlier this week. Thanks for some memorable tunes, Vic.
Neat... sweet... petite...

Great stuff! Memories...my dad used to pull out his old Richard Strauss records on Halloween. They worked well, I think. A couple of samples...

The long-awaited re-release by Disney of their mid-60's classic TV miniseries, "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" has made this material available once again. I loved this show as a kid. The fiendish laugh, the scary costumes!

" Busy" works for me. Live organ: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FXoyr_FyFw"]YouTube - Toccata & Fugue in d minor (BACH, J.S.)[/ame]

JS Bach sure knew how to scare those powdered wigs.

Here's 2 min of him in the young man and death:
http://www.nureyev.org/rudolf-nureye...rudolf-nureyev

You can find Nureyev or Baryshnikov in similar yet different interpretations of this "let's hang ourselves at the end" dance, some 20 years apart from each other on YouTube, and I suggest you do.

On a campier note, you can't find the scene from Brian de Palma's 1974 cult classic "Phantom of The Paradise" when Beef sings " Life at Last"----just the music, which won't do. Paul Williams composed and wrote the songs and also stars as 'Swan'--so, dang it all--rent the DVD OK?

Sweet Dreams,

Mario

Yeah, you are so right Mario. "Phantom of the Paradise" is very odd camp cult movie.

All very great suggestions!

I am a closet fan of Phantom of the Paradise. Jessica Harper has a really interesting voice.

My Halloween suggestion:
All Souls Night, the Loreena McKennit version, very celtic and lovely
