Floris
Eau de Santal
(2002)

Top Notes: Sicilian Bergamot, Lavender
Middle Notes; Black Pepper, Clove Bud Oil, Cardamom
Base Notes: Patchouli, Tree Moss

It does smell a bit like sandalwood, though there's none in the pyramid. Basically, it's the spices and the patchouli-oakmoss that make this scent. Bergamot is always a nice touch... I suppose this is technically not a chypre, because there's tree moss rather than oakmoss in it, but it kind of qualifies. I like this for cooler (but not cold) weather. It does seem to project a bit, but not excessively. It's warm and slightly spicy because of the clove bud oil and cardamom. Like many Floris masculines, it's "safe" for office wear, so I'll go with that for a casual Friday.

Hermèssence Ambre Narguilé
HERMES

A spicy oriental that is often referenced as a foody-comfort scent. It opens with heart-warming, sweet gourmand notes; think danish pastry in the oven. As it evolves a radiant amber surfaces, but never dominates. Can't help but smile at how such a composition could work so well.
Have a great day basenoters!

How can there not be anise in this brew somewhere? Maybe it's the clary sage and the lavender that give a kind of minty impression? Once again flummoxed by the note pyramid. Ooo, new album title.

Off to ScentMother's house for dinner tonight and for the occasion I am wearing:

Comme Des Garcons H&M

If there is one thing CdG know how to do and do very well it is incense. This is anopther winner of an incense from them without treading over old ground. The top of this is full on cedar which gives way really quickly to a sweet incense middle before transitioning to the less sweet church incense in the base. This is a straight forward progression executed flawlessly. It reminds me of when I used to burn incense cones in my misspent youth and there would be a little piece of one left when I placed another new cone in the bowl, and there would be this wonderful co-mingling of different incenses. I'm getting the same feeling on my skin from this one. Really, really nice. I think this would be a mass-market winner for CdG if they sold it at this price at every H&M.

Want to "match" ScentSon SMM, who's coming over for dinner (and poodle hugs) this evening ... and I have been on an incense kick lately anyway, but I want also to keep my own SoTD light be able to truly appreciate the CdG H&M scent. Sooooooooo, it's Demeter Holy Smoke for me today. This is a fun one, lighter than many, not sweet, and with a great firewood note wafting through at the start.

After a hot morning shower, Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte, thanks to Dimitri for the sample. He described it as "fifteen minutes of fleeting orange brilliance," and I somewhat disagree. I used nearly 1 ml and it was nowhere to be found after less than ten minutes. This fragrance has the poorest longevity I have ever seen, which is a real shame, because the scent is of very nice quality. What is it with brilliant citruses that makes them so volatile? I had Eau d'Hadrien (along with its longevity issues) in mind when I wore the Hermes.

Continuing with more orange brilliance in the afternoon with MPG's Pour le Jeune Homme. A citrus (a spicy citrus) with no longevity issues this time.

Will wear Diptyque L'Eau in the evening.

Taolady, I feel for you......sorta. It's 28F right now in Chicago!

Anyways, I hope everyone today stays as cozy as you all can. I am trying a lighter scent for the cold weather. Yang by Jacques Fath (from a sample). I used to relegate this one for the warmer times. Let's see what comes about....

My understanding is that citrus molecules are meant to be quite small and small molecules evaporate quickly.
I will agree though that is stunning and very enjoyable while it lasts.

Today is H&M - Comme des Garcons. The barber told me I "smell great"

Polo Explorer. This is one of my go-to Casual Friday scents. Very little thought required. Grab, spray, head out the door. By Friday, my brain is fried and I don't need an over complicated scent.

It's fresh, clean and a little sexy.
