Poll: You Can Bring Back One Discontinued Scent...r/o

or restore one reformulated messed-up version of a scent,

and you would choose?

~~~~~~~~~
(me ~ Giardini De Montecatini XII by Princess Marcella Borghese.
here's a great image of it (not affiliated:not my auction)...
http://cgi.ebay.ca/BORGHESE-XII-MARC...1121123001r435
They also sell it here for, $500. OMG.
At my (ex) local The Emporium in CA, they use to toss samples of these two perfumes at people passing by the Borghese counter.
http://www.1stperfume.com/giamo12fepsp25.html?froogle
I thankfully still have a fb of the VI, but IIRC, the XII was a magnificent green/herbal scent.
There are a few, but if I had to choose ONE it would be Coty Chypre.
But that's today, usually I would choose my beloved Weils
post #3 of 68
Rochas Rochas Femme1944 formulation
post #4 of 68
I'm sure there are worthier candidates, but for me it has to be Jour de FĂȘte. It was the fragrance that started me off in niche perfumery, and the first non-designer full bottle I bought. It's still widely available, of course, but since it's no longer in production, that's a matter of time. I can't justify a back-up bottle, having only just bought that full one, but I sure wish it would just remain safely anchored in stores. Like a security blanket, if you will.
post #5 of 68
DJEDI!!! to name but one out of dozens!!! This is my holy grail. I don't know what they are waiting for. They could make a wad on these really good frags if they'd bring them back.
post #6 of 68
Bene' by Ben Rickert. Back in the very early 80's I used to get this for my DH from Fredrick and Nelson. It came in a cheap box with .5 oz of scent and a small soap for $5. This stuff drove me wild! It is the best man scent I have ever come across. If I had known they were going to stop making it I would have taken out a loan to stock up. It makes me sad knowing I will die and never get to smell this again.
here's some @ $85 for 4 oz. I don't know a thing about this website but they have an 800 number, you could give them a call and see if it's In Stock...
Laura Ashley No. 1-- very sentimental; I wore it on my wedding day.
Thanks, I've seen this but I heard people say that the stuff out there now is fake. Someone on this board bought some a few years back and they said it was not bene'. I think they only came in .5 oz bottles.
post #10 of 68
Billy Dee Williams perfume for women that Avon used to sell back in the day.That stuff was really nice.
post #11 of 68
Yves Rocher's vie privee, it was just recently discontinued but like Veuve Amiot said it's like losing your security blanket and this is my favorite floral of all time.
post #12 of 68
Woodhue. My first signature scent. I can still smell it in my imagination. They make a copy now. Some company called 'Fragrances of France.' It's just NOT the same! Back to eBay I go!
Guerlain's Ode. ...an even more joyful Joy.
post #14 of 68
This is bringing back memories. That Borghese Giardini De Montecatini XII was very nice. I had it, it came in a gift basket of spa goodies, including a big jar of the luscious body cream that was to die for. I also wore Laura Ashely No. 1 back in the day (with my Laura Ashley dresses, lol!). I can't think of any at the moment that haven't already been mentioned. It would be nice if some fragrances could come back in their original forms, rather than having to live with the reformulations.
post #15 of 68
Havana
and then I would change my name and get one more choice and bring back Patou pour Homme
post #16 of 68
I wish for Caron's Tabac Blond to be debuggered.
post #17 of 68
Diorama, for sure.
post #18 of 68
Rive Gauche, the version from the 1970s. Runner-up would be Guerlain Vetiver.
post #19 of 68
Discontinued - Theorama
Messed up - Magie Noire (botched civet substitution)
I second that! (Although I've never tried it before)
post #21 of 68
I would also choose SO many, but if I could choose only one, it would be Laura Ashley Emma. I never felt prettier or more confident than when I wore that scent. Never.
post #22 of 68
Jean Marc Sinan. It was a woody, honeyed, rose before Knowing or any other came along. One-quarter ounce cost nearly $100 back in the 1980s. It smelled like money.
post #23 of 68
Yohji
post #24 of 68
I have to concur with the 70's version of Rive Gauche....oh how I miss it!
post #25 of 68
I want to smell Nombre Noir by Shiseido.
And the great discontinued Guerlains.
post #26 of 68
Casaque by Jeab d'Albret (and yes I know that Irma Shorell at LLP does
a version of this.)
Rive Gauche original too.
post #27 of 68
I second all the discontinued Guerlains too and I wish for Clarins' Elysium fragrance to b brought back. I still have a mini which I have buried somewhere in my closet!
Also I wish for Mitsouko to be the same as before.
post #28 of 68
Laura Ashley's Emma
post #29 of 68
Easy. For me it would have to be Aveda Purefume Chakra Equipose. I'm still gutted they discontinued it.
I still have one from the 80's. It was a gift and at the time I didn't need it (a back-up), now I treasure it!
post #31 of 68
QUE VIVA!!!!!!! by Escada. OMG!! I wish they would bring it back. I looooooved that stuff and man did it love me. It smelled so goood on me. I would also bring back that Escada sport frag line they had one summer. There was an orange, green and blue one. I looooooved the blue one. I think it was called Feeling Free or Spirit Free or something.....yes I'm too lazy to go look at the directory lol. Oh you did say one didn't you lol. I can't help it. I'ma BNer. One just isn't in my perfume vocabulary lol.
Eau de Patou
post #33 of 68
The original Chloe with tuberose.
post #34 of 68
Comme des Garcons - Burnt Sugar.
Just so I wouldn't have to go so slowly with my current bottle which took me forever to find.
post #35 of 68
I changed my mind. I don't need a Cloud City perfume. Bring back Halston Couture, and with the old oakmoss please.
post #36 of 68
Iris Gris by Jacques Fath, of course.
post #37 of 68
Oh, I'm so glad Halstone Couture, Eau de Patou (exquisite) and the original Femme formulation have all been mentioned.
And then there's Deneuve, of course.
And Gauloise by Molyneux.
And Lanvin's My Sin.
And just about all the Schiaparellis: Sleeping, Zut!, and so on.
post #38 of 68
This is naughty of me, as we are only supposed to pick one ... but:
how could I have forgotten the original ('80s) Armani for Her? So lovely. And regrettably, Armani White has now gone the same way.
I think 1stperfume is the one etailer that most people on basenotes know to avoid. Folks correct me if I'm wrong about this? (see other threads for more info)
To answer your query, I haven't tried many of the uber classics, so my bring back would be Faberge Woodhue. I just loved it as a teen, and the reformulation is not the same.
post #40 of 68
Apart from resurrecting the original formulas of great classics, I would bring back two that are gone altogether:
Coty La Rose Jacqueminot
Coty Chypre
I am lucky enough to have small decants of each, and am wearing Chypre right now. When I first tried it last year , believeing it to be new to me beforehand, I was rather upset to find that I knew it well from childhood but would rather not smell it again for the associations it raised. I'm past all that now. I adore it. I am wearing it this evening to help repel doubts and anxieties. When I first tried it , those very things were the results of the fragrance itself.
I marvel at how a scent of perfection, plus even a little time, can change one's perspective.
post #41 of 68
If I could restore just one reformulated fragrance, it would be Shalimar.
If I could bring back one discontinued fragrance, it would be Deneuve.
You can still buy it from Lloyds Pharmacy at least. Our local has some! I almost went for it, but have one coming my way in a swap instead.
post #44 of 68
How odd - I was on the Lloyds Pharmacy website yesterday, ordering a bargain bottle of Burberry for Women for my mother-in-law, and spotted it. Was surprised to see it still in circulation with the hype around the new one.
They've done away with City Glam, I hear, which was rather nice - I know someone with a teeny bit left in her canister!
post #46 of 68
I don't know why Armani keep killing all their nicest products. Night was discontinued at some point, too, causing my budding-perfumista-self to have an anxiety attack. It's the only scent I've ever repurchased, AND I like the bottle. Bah humbug.
Turns out it was never discontinued in the first place, and I fell out of love halfway into my second bottle.
You've all forgotten I already listed one, right?
That means I can resurrect Pink Pepper/Poivre Rose by the Body Shop. I still think it's a dead ringer for OJ Woman.
Somehow this sounds to me like a good put-down line.
(Needs a strong Belfast accent for full effect)
Hello bro!
You have made me think of the old biddy in a wool shop down Sandy Row who confided in me that her husband had "a drop of angina"...
post #49 of 68
Tuxedo by Ralph Lauren for the gals.
I wish someone would make a good copy of Versailles pour Homme by Jean Desprez for the guys.
post #50 of 68
Deneuve for me, too.....that stuff was intoxicatingly wonderful!
ChantillyLace: I had a bf in the mid/late 80's and I bought him a gift set of Bene by Ben Rickert.
It came with a little blue soap on a rope and as ridiculous as it sounds, it was in the figure of a hippopotamus. That scent was amazing, I hadn't thought about it for a long time and you reminded me. I see why you lament it so.
post #51 of 68
Iquitos by Alain Delon.
I have a reasonable supply of this to keep me going for quite a long time but even so, no way should this be discontinued!
post #52 of 68
Can't stop at one, must list two:
Guerlain Djedi -- love it and i'm nursing a few drops left
Lanvin Scandal -- I have managed to purchase a couple of unopened bottles, but alas, the topnotes on them are very fleeting.
post #53 of 68
Love's Fresh Lemon in the original formulation. It was a great hot-weather cologne.
post #54 of 68
old formula: Rive Gauche
Fragrance: Gucci III
post #55 of 68
The original SHOCKING by Elsa Schiaparelli ~ there is NOTHING to replace the civet in that golden juice!
post #56 of 68
Emilio Pucci " Signor VIVARA " and the female version of 1965
post #57 of 68
Cher's Uninhibited
post #58 of 68
Polo Crest by RL or Jil Sander Feeling Man.
Gary
post #59 of 68
Discontinued: Balenciaga's Michelle (with Djedi running a close, close second!)
Restore to former glory: Emeraude
post #60 of 68
I'd like Montana Parfum de Peau to be restored to its former eighties glory. The stuff that has its name nowadays is awful. Parfum de Peau used to have a brightness to it and was very sophisticated - sleek but vibrant. I'd like Gucci Accenti to be brought back only because I'm curious about it having read reviews by people who loved it.
