Joffrey Ballet's Nutcracker last night

OH WOW. As if I hadn't already gotten obsessed with ballet enough to want to devote my life to it...last night was absolutely unbelievable. I've found my calling. I must pursue this. It is my greatest passion.

The Joffrey ballet put on such a spectacular show! The dancers were technically perfect in every way. Not one single flaw to be seen. I knew this was an important and well-established ballet company, but I guess I've never seen such excellence exhibited before. I was completely blown away. The set and costume design were both alive with color and substance, as was the choreography in it's grand scale! The configurations the dancers made were huge sometimes, and the use of five cavaliers made things very interesting!. They were an inspiration, to say the least. The snow queen was "to die for". Her arms were so expressive and beautiful, it made me want to ... just.... The music was played by a full orchestra, and the chorus in the first act was sung by a live chorus. Every piece of music was played to exact perfection to Tchaikovsky's standard. The entire show was an absolute spectacle. Every single thing about it was totally maxed out. michiganopera.org/0809/nutcracker.html

...I'll be working extremely hard.

And since I'm sure you're going to be wondering, I wore Domenico Caraceni when I left the house, and brought an atomizer of C&S No.88 with me.

ah, Twinkle Toes has a twinkle in his eye!
I have been fortunate to see a number of live ballet performances and in the days when PBS aired many live concerts, plays and performances, I remember seeing wonderful dancers and being so moved. Even the smaller troupes that I saw when I lived in the city, way back when, were stirring. Nothing beats a live performance.
follow your passion.
thanks for sharing.
we need beauty in this world, people take it for granted and undervalue it as a profession.
speaking as the wife of an artist, I can't emphasize enough how valuable the contribution of beauty into this world is .

Ballet has always been such a source of hope, beauty, grace for me. I have had a subscription to NYCB for years, and have been lucky enough to have seen many of the greats. Most important, personally, is that, when I watch such beauty I know that life can be filled with hope.

Agreed. I'm cutting expenses in many areas during these times, but I feel it's so important to continue supporting the arts. If anyone in the Bay area is reading this, I'd like to put in a plug for Smuin Ballet. Their Holiday Program is a wonderful treat. People who think they don't like ballet walk out of this smiling.

That sounds lovely! When I was a little girl my mom used to take me to see the Joffrey Ballet perform in NYC. They always did something special and new, as well as something from their regular repertoire. We especially loved The Green Table. Thanks for the reminder - I'll remember to tell my mom about your post. We have happy memories of watching the Joffrey Ballet Co. perform.
