Light fragrance for day wear?

I'd like to buy my mum a light daytime fragrance for her birthday in January. She has several frags for evening wear but for daytime she only has my Estee Lauder castoffs - Beyond Paradise and Pleasures and Red Door . Her skin chemistry tends to really work a fragrance and I'd love to give her something subtle and cool.

She doesn't really have preferences as to notes and thinks every thing I choose "smells lovely." She won't go sampling with me because too many fragrances at once confuse her senses. I'd love to give her something that strikes a personal note with her. She's 63, very active and outdoorsy with simple taste in clothing and make up.

If you can order samples, then that would be outstanding, and you could give her a pretty little bowl of a dozen or more things to try.

Among those items to sample, I'd recommend:

~ Chanel No. 19 or Bel Respiro
~ Any of the Annick Goutal florals
~ A citrus scent (Eau d'Hadrien, O de Lancome)
~ And my favorite: Nanadebary Green

Ralph Lauren Notorious

Clarins Eau Dynamisante might suit her.
Seconding Bulgari Omnia - it's my "go to" scent.

EL Pure White Linen or Prada Infusion d'Iris? You might also check out the L'Occitane line, they have some nice ones she might like, such as Myrtle, Iris, Eau de Recolte Bleue, Cherry Blossom or Verbena. See their website, some nice bath and body products, too.

I prefer simple scents and wear L'Occitane a lot, I have also been getting interested in Speziali Fiorentini which uses natural notes, you can see that line on shoplondons.com. They also sell little "scent libraries" with samples from Floris London and Penhaligon's, she might have fun trying those and find one on her own she prefers.

I feel that I over-recommend this, but it's my favorite! - Elizabeth W Sweet Tea. Tea, lemon, honey. Simple, light, and cool - this is definitely a glass of iced sweet tea, not a hot cup of tea.

Crayfish

I totally second these-D & G Eau The One DKNY Cashmere Mist!

Also D&G Light Blue even though, to me, its a warmer weather type scent, it is still lovely in these winter months too! I've yet to have anyone not like this one.

I second the Prada - very pretty. I would suggest Jo Malone Kohdo Woods Day but the darn thing is currently discontinued - might be back in the spring, I gather...

I agree with Omnia and also Omnia Amethyste. These are very subtle, with the former being the more sophisticated.

I would recommend Pure White Linen too. It's not a light fragrance as such but it smells very clean, fresh, and comforting.

Crayfish

I like the ElizabethW fragrances too, they are simple and subtle.

I really like Jo Malone's White Jasmine & Mint for daytime. It's a nice, energizing fragrance, although the downside is that longevity isn't fabulous. (I get jasmine for about 1-1/2 hours, then mostly musk after that.)

Hmmm....

I rotate

Bvlgaria Omnia
Gucci Envy
Alfred Sung Shi

Something good you can easily get online is Apercu by Houbigant. It's an under-appreciated bergamot based chypre. Very light/fresh modern. I like it for day most of the year.

B by Boucheron is another light one I just remembered - with osmanthus as I recall. Very pretty.

Geir Ness Laila is very nice.
