Haha yes, we crazy people in the upside down hemisphere eh? Cheers mate! Hope you northern dwellers aren't too cold! I hardly bother with different fragrances for different weather - on my skin, very few fragrances get cloying - even in the summer.

It's actually surprisingly cold today. Love's True Bluish Light as chosen by Ineespenes, another brilliant decision for my SotD! Cheers, Ineespenes.

Good vibes and fingers crossed to those braving doctors appointments, hope there is nothing wrong! Hugs to you and everyone who needs them!!!

I'm wearing Jean Claude Ellena's Hermessence Poivre Samarcande. Notes include pepper, chili pepper, oak, cedar, chinese moss, and musk

I dithered at the wardrobe this morning, but finally made the perfect choice. Contrary to the experience of some people, this fragrance has a decent longevity on me.

Enjoy your weekends.

Iceland is covered in snow and it´s stunning to walk to work with all the christmas lights around the neighbourhood combined with the white fluffy blanket. Feeling more in control now but the feelings still linger a bit. I blame the season too.

Wooooh, I drank a tiny bit too much yesterday going out. Clutching my head now.

In dream-related news: no exes. Or people, even. I own this Sansevieria plant, and I dreamt I cut its leaves like they were hair. Right down to the earth. Weird. No sleep-walking, though, it was fully intact in the morning.

Haven't yet decided on a Sotd, but it might well be Jil Sander Sun.

Amber & Lavender Cologne by Jo Malone (2nd time from a sample)

This reminds me of a really basic fougere (like Brut) and it smells extremely well post-shower, but I'm not sure I need a full bottle.

Welcomewelcome PinkPepperPlum (what a great name!)

GEEZE - Petruccijc...that visual for Minotaure is a whole bunch...um...better than my plain old bottle. Grrr-r-r-r-r-r...

And Roberto - you've done it again. Beautiful shot of the Pucci.....

Had lunch yesterday with a dear old friend who gave me a fistful of cash for Xmas and so naturally I didn't go right home but stopped off at Marshall's where I snagged TWO dear little Demeters for seven clams each (Salt Air and Pink Lemonade) PLUS Lancome's Benghal (which I'd never heard of but loved the packaging - SNAP!! It's gorgeous nectarine and ginger and jasmine. Woo Hoo.) Long way around to the explanation that I'm collaging the Salt Air with my new obsession....

(many thanx to Astaroth for the visual)
...for another breezy day!!

Dreamt of my grandfather last night...I had invented some machine for floorcleaning and he was helping me look it over. Cool, because he was a very inventive man during his lifetime, I was happy to "see" him again!

I'm thrilled about tonight, because the husband and I are having an 'impromptu' overnight in Chicago. Holiday dinner with a few collegues of his and then out on the town for a cocktail! This usually doesn't happen in my world, so it's REALLY exciting! In fact, I went out and bought a little black dress (well, actually a medium black dress!) to wear. My Chanel COCO should fit the bill perfectly! Ta ta for now!

I'm in Ava Luxe's Madeline, a beautiful soft, milky, spicy gourmand that on my skin even manages to give a little hint of leather (no comments about my leathery skin, thank you! )

We've had two days of snow here and it's now stunning - snow on all the trees and covering the ground, but a pearly white light and clear white skies. It's as if the world has suddenly been turned to black and white. I adore it.

We have half a dozen visitors arriving from South Africa tomorrow for a week and a half (they are going to go nuts when they see this snow!), so I might not be able to post much for a while. But I'll try. In the meantime, lots of Christmassy love and great big hugs to all of you. I hope you all stay well and happy and keep having interesting dreams. And smelling fantastic of course.
x

PS PinkPepperPlum - hello! And what good taste you have to pick a Sonja Grosman...

Serge Lutens - Serge Noir today.

Incense and Cumin at the top. Cinnamon and vanilla (in an incensed room) at the base.

I found it interesting that most of the big-name bloggers didn't catch the cumin note, but the folks at Makeup Alley and minor bloggers did. Wonder what THAT means?....

Tonight - doing the same thing as ubuandibeme - impromptu holiday cocktails.....after HOCKEY!!!!

So does a Capitals jersey count as "holiday dress"?

I love reading everybody's posts here in the morning.

Roberto, I love Pucci Vivara, and the bottle is great looking.

Welcome, PinkPepperPlum!

Yay, for Tigrushka for finishing her semester! I know what a good feeling that is. Although, I used to have a strange time decompressing. It felt odd not to be pressured and hard at work doing papers and research, homework, cramming for exams. What to do with oneself??!

I'm trying another of my samples this morning, Psychotrope by Parfumerie Generale (thanks to Musse, and where is Musse anyway?).

TGIF to everybody.

Testing some stuff...

Bvlgari Omnia (regular) - translucent, spicy thing that doesn't really move me like Crystalline.

By Kilian Liaisons Dangereuses - Poison updated for the 21st century - me, I am not convinced anyone needed to do that. Some horrors are best not flankered.

En Passant - to see if I want to swap for it. I don't - am getting shedfuls of lilac, even after scrubbing the toilet bowl with that hand.

B by Boucheron - cheerful, upbeat, love it!

A little something special for the Mayor of Candy Town:

A TGIF buffet.
I've spared no expense in commissioning a virtual party for all those who have faced a whacky week of dreams, doctor appointments, hangovers, semester pressures, harsh weather, and even political unrest. Eat well and soak up the nurturing vibes being sent your way. You deserve the best! (Tovah, I'll get a highchair for your sweetie.)

Welcome, PinkPepperPlum !

Sakecat- I wore SN to bed last night, w/ Messe De Minuit...
WHAT was I atoning for, I wonder ?
[How can ANYONE miss the cumin? It screams...not that I mind, LOL !]

I'm Nahema girl, today.
SMM is coming in his chariot, to rescue me and take me to the fair Catherine, to lunch ensemble.
Me VERY happy about this turn of events-
All work and no play doth a weary Chaya make ....

LISA !
ENOUGH with the damn hausfrau garbage !
They will love you anyway.

Make it a good w/e, friends-
Stay well, and avoid the holiday pitfalls....
MWAH !

Good morning. Hope it's a good day for all.
I'm wearing Divine L'Inspiratrice. Very nice, but I'd be more inspired if it were stronger.
I question the keenness of my sense of smell.Perhaps, I need the olfactory equivalent of a hearing aid.
I am wearing Musc Maori today. It has yet to offer me the calm that I need.

Yikes. I too had an "ex dream" last night. Make it stop. I dreamt he and his current wife were at a presentation at which one of my children was on the dais. The current wife made a snide remark about my daughter and I shouted at her to leave. It has left me feeling, well, blue.
Thank you, Quarry. You know what I like.
Looks like the dreaming world has given everyone a little break let's hope it continues.
As to the eternal question of whether a Caps Jersey counts as a "holiday dress"? Its the woman inside the garment that gets to decide what it is.

This has been the end of an insanely busy but insanely productive few weeks at work. We hit our last goal for 2009 yesterday to complete a clean sweep for the year.
Today I have the day off and I get to have lunch with both ComDiva and chayaruchama. I can't think of many better ways for me to spend the day off.

For lunch and the rest of the day I am going to be wearing:

Neil Morris Gotham

I love and wear many of Neil's scents but this is the one I come back to every time. From the amazing floral beginning to the spice laden heart paired with narcissus and rose down to the leather base. This is always going to be one of my favorites.

Have a great Friday everyone.

I just discovered an interesting layering mix. EL "Knowing" (perfume) over Rochas "Femme" (modern formulation) EDP. Some skank from the Rochas, sweetness/petitgrain from the "Knowing." It was just an experiment and I was going to wash it off, but maybe not.

L'Artisan sample of Premier Figuier ExtrĂªme

I like this more every time I put it on. A very cozy smell for someone who doesn't tend to like perfumes with the other notes that usually make a smell cozy-- vanilla, musk, amber, patchouli...

I like this much better than any other fig I've tried so far, and I wouldn't have thought I would like fig perfume at all. And let's see, other figs I've tried are Demeter's, Anthousa's, and Guerlain's (Un Jardin en Mediteranée). Haven't tried Diptyque's but I will have to, now.

Ditto here. I would just love to spend the day with all of you in that room!

I'm sampling MISSONI for the second time. I was sick the first time time I tried it, and that day it seemed too sweet for me. Now I'm getting light, shimmering fruit that is pleasing me very much!

Edit: MISSONI lost its shimmer later on, and dried down to yesterday's fruit salad piled atop stale chocolate cake. Just doesn't work for me. Oh, well.

HAPPY FRIDAY TO ALL!!! (Yes, I'm shouting - it's been a heck of a work week for me and I need a breather.)

Oh my Quarry! I think I gained 10 pounds by just looking at all the wonderful food

I'm going back to the doctor this morning for some sort of prednisone shot. He also increased the dosages on some of my medicines. I would rather take a trip to the beach, so I'm wearing Eau des Merveilles. If I can't be there in person, I can go there in my imagination.

Have a great day, everyone!
Lubin Idole has helped me make it through the day. I definitely need vacation. I'll have to "recharge my batteries" at the weekend! Like Lian, I also think the season makes you feel strange: the short days, the lack of light... the thing I love the most now is sleeping

Oh my, that buffet -- it looks superb ....

I'm trialling Annick Goutal's Quel Amour! today. I wish I weren't; it smells utterly awful on me -- a gag-fest of rose, fruit and granny's tinned talc. Yuckers.

Have been scrubbing my wrists for England, but to no avail. Even ate some sardines, but can *still* smell that unforgiving scent.

Happy Friday!

Guerlain Apres l'Ondee, from a sample. I'm SO glad I'm giving this another shot. It's beautiful.
My first impression that it was plastic-y was really off-base; I finally discovered it was the unscented moisturizer I had been using that was making some perfumes smell that way. I'm not using that one anymore!

My goodness dearest Q!
You do know my weakness *i'm gorging at the buffet now*

wearing Vol de Nuit today. yippee!

TGIF to all.

I've been out and about today and MY IT'S COLD! Proper winter. Sort of refreshing in a way. I wish my fingers wouldn't be still frozen into sticks.

On way home walked through a dept. store and sprayed Narciso Rodriguez for her EDT from a tester. Yup, still love it. It is soft, floral-boozy, musky, and very slightly metallic on me. Not particularly loud. I'd like to try the EDP for comparison. (And this just doesn't sit with my idea of "chypre" at all. Calling this a chypre is a marketing ploy, nothing else).
Quarry, that picture made me drool, and I've already eaten lunch!

Today I'm wearing Neil Morris' Flowers for Men: Rose.

I had a discussion with another Basenotes member about these scents being more popular on the Women's side than the Guys' side, and he felt it was because they can be more feminine. I can't say that for *all* of them, but certainly Flowers for Men: Rose seems quite flowery. I could envision a guy wearing it. But, it's so much better on me.

You have my sympathy - I tried this on 13/8 according to my diary, and described it as "explosively fruity and sweet and sherbety to start with, but calms down to a fluffy and girly level that is almost tolerable". Clearly not in your case. Did you know that Luca Turin calls this the "Erin Brockovitch of fruity florals"? You have to wonder if he saw the film.

PS (Paul Sebastian)

A wonderful, pleasantly spicy oriental cologne.

Soirdelune have you tried rubbing the area with the back of a clean stainless steel spoon? That has worked well for me most times.

Welcome PinkPepperPlum!
I've been to the mall....testing. so I have Jill Sanders 76 on my right hand & Azzaro Couture for Women on my left. I like the Azzaro at first but now I'm loving the deep dry down of the Jill Sanders 76 However, I did get a lot of compliments on the AC as I walked around the mall.
Been to the hospital over the last few days, having x-rays done...no biggie.
Hugs to all.

Still trying to rid myself of this darned cold, so I decided to look for a scent that could blast through anything. Apparently all I need is some AG Quel Amour! No luck, so I am wearing Le Temps d'une Fete out of happy habit.
It's windy and snowing huge flakes here today as I look out the library windows. I am reveling in the exquisiteness of Annick Goutal Heure Exquise. I've not tried all the Goutals, but of the ones I've sampled, this was the one I deemed bottleworthy. Seeing my guy tonight so I wanted to smell all powdery and rosy.

Therese, you must have missed my post in yesterday's thread about how we were all going to dream nice dreams about fragrances. Hopefully that's the last unpleasant "ex" dream for awhile.

SotD: L'Air du Desert Marocain - very nice choice, Coconut!

SotE: I'm going to a holiday party for my husband's job. One of the professors there wears PW Tea Rose (yep, one of the few frags I've been able to recognize on someone else). So I was thinking it would be fun to have a "Rose-off," which means either Ta'if or Sa Majeste La Rose.
BlackCat - I think you should go with something that will go toe-to-toe with Tea Rose (a very powerful beast). Like, dousing yourself in Paris

Chaya - that combo of Messe de Minuit and SN sounds nummy. I had a thought that maybe all of the "big" bloggers got an early draft Serge Noir and us "commoners" received something different....with cumin. Unlike some bloggers (bluesoul - I'm looking at you....and when are you finally gonna blog about those Bond No. 9 goodies?)...I don't get marketing freebies.

May be just as well, I'm not very nice (please see the Scent Project link in my signature for multiple examples).

Quarry - ooooooh! Seafood buffet! Great catering for SMM's virtual party.

And yes ubuandibeme and SMM - I plan to wear my mid-90's Caps Black, Blue and Copper holiday hockey sweater. With clashing New School Red touque, of course.

For those not familiar to the appearance of this stunning (if unlucky) jersey, please see this slideshow of the incomparable Peter Bondra showing off the original AND old colors.

Go CAPS!
