Well, it's been a long road here to get to 3,000 posts since I joined Basenotes on June 19, 2004. Four years, four months, and 28 days later, I've kept 18 bottles, sold or swapped 37 bottles, tested countless fragrances (designer and niche), and finished only one full bottle (a bottle of Terre d'Hermes).
But the journey wasn't without its pitfalls... still, I saw it as an adventure. I had to make due living in a fragrance wasteland for a year, where you either wore Axe, Cool Water, or (if you wanted to be classy) Acqua di Gio, as the nearest decent fragrance shop (no, Elder-Beerman didn't count) was 35 miles away. I also had to stop wearing cologne for a month and a half in 2005 due to medical procedures. Boring.
I have also met a lot of smelly friends (online and in the real world). Without you, I'd still be desperately lost in the fragrance world. I wouldn't have known about the By Kilian line, nor would I have known about all sorts of modern classics. Nor would I have known the local perfume reps so well. Still, someone should have warned me in advance about Neiman Marcus' asinine credit card policy...
Finally, here's my big wish for 2009: make it the year that a Sephora actually opens up in Fort Wayne after years of rumors... their fragrance selection is better than what we have currently in town. If Indianapolis, South Bend and (soon) Evansville can have one, why can't we? After all, Fort Wayne is the second biggest city in Indiana...
Anyway, here's to 3,000 more posts!
