After reading through the 2008 thread and spending 130$ on a bottle I wanted but can't actually say I needed, I've decided to make some resolutions of my own.
I'm trying to balance realism - if I have the money to, I'll likely spend some of it on fragrance - with sensibility. I spent around 230$ on fragrance this month, something that really CANNOT continue.
So, my new rules for the New Year ( some were filched from others - thanks for the inspiration!
)
1. One full bottle per season, and ONLY after I've gone through at least 5ml or more of decants of the fragrance I'm intending to buy. Buy used or trade wherever possible.
2. No blind buys on anything other than samples.
3. Limit my spending to 100$ a month or less, preferably 50$ or less in months with no bottles. If I over-spend one month - i.e. that have-to-have an over-100$ bottle - I'll compensate by reducing my budget the next month. 140$ one month means a 60$ budget the next, but I can't "borrow" further than that.
4. By virtue of this, no over 200$ ever, at least at this point in life, and try to never to never exceed 100$ where possible.
5. Try to concentrate on enjoying what I already have rather than constantly lusting after what I don't.
6. Be realistic about what I'm going to wear regularly, whether it's samples, decants, or bottles.
[ I'll like add to this as I think of more and the New Year grows closer. ]
