And on a sadder note, we have 2 cats. My wife loves them and I never thought I would.
We have a 16 year old stray Patches that is totally her cat and doesn't give me the time of day.
7 years ago my teenage foster daughter found a kitten and begged us to let her keep "Stewart". He is the best cat I've ever known.....a great hunter, loves to come and sit with me, and doesn't take crap from the big dogs.
3 months ago we discovered a lump on his bag leg. It turned out to be a fairly aggressive cancer probably related to the Feline leukemia vaccine. Our vet didn't want to amputate and tried to remove it but 2 weeks ago a lump reappeared on that leg and another on the other. A cancer specialist in Memphis confirmed that his cancer was back, and on 2 legs amputation was no longer an option.
Worse, the only thing that might improve his condition would be a combo of radiation and chemo. The chemo would be ok, but the radiation is nearly impossible as the closest place is Auburn, AL almost 500 miles away. We decided to just watch him and make sure he stays comfortable and when he starts to show pain or the tumors impede him do the humane thing.
For now we are just enjoying his last days as he doesn't know he is sick yet.
Here is my buddy Stewart:

Not impressed with the new addition to the family:
