My dog Wharf. He's about 12 and a mix of German Shephard, Collie, and Chow (sp?).

My cat Tiger. She's about 5 and is ... I dunno, a gray striped cat. She likes to sniff RL Blue.

Happy Halloween Mateys!

We're participating in the SPCA Pet Walk in a couple of weeks. One of the events is a Pet Halloween Costume Contest - so Roki is going as "Bark Beard the Pirate".

Here's the latest pic of my girl. She's usually not very cooperative about having pics taken, but outside in daylight is ok because no flash...

Bumping this to post my pet pics of the day (snow is too deep for my poor dog to run around the back yard)...

Oh so cute, Lilybelle! She looks so sad about not being able to romp around in the yard.

I think she looks sad, too! She tested the snow, but then shied away. She's supposed to be a snow dog, but I think she's more of a lounge-on-the-people-bed dog now.

Here is a picture of our new family member, Gizmo. We adopted him from the Humane Society this past week. He is a 3 year old Pekingese mix - similar to our other adopted dog, Roki.

Here's my pooch. He's a King Charles Cavalier, probably about 2 years old in the pic, but he'll be 7 this October 24th.

What a sweetheart, petruccijc. I'm sure he's lucky to have such a wonderful new home.

I know exactly what he must be thinking right now...

So many cuties! I can't resist sharing mine -- here is a photo medley of Karma, an African Gray parrot, (bane of our life) and Ginger, (light of our life) a hurricane Katrina survivor/rescue.

Oh C Rose, so cute!

My (late) Canine Best Friend Aero...

Named for a little dark arrow-shaped patch on his back at the base of his tail. He was part SharPei and part ??? and was a rescue (found as a pup, sick as the proverbial with parvo, wet, cold, and miserable at the side of the road...and lived a good long life after recovering from that)
Oh, sorry Aero is gone! But how great that you found each other and you could give him a good life...

Craig, that's a beautiful Cavalier Spaniel you have there. I was deliberating between one of those, and Cocker Spaniels, and ended up with a Cocker Spaniel, which I'm extremely happy with.

Here's a video of her waking up. I hope to put up a few more video's, as well as some nice HQ pics in the near future:

Thanks.
I was originally going for a Keeshond, but when I explained to the breeder that I wanted a pet, she was more interested in someone showing off her dogs in the ring and she refused to sell me a puppy unless I was to show it.
All I wanted was a pet to love and give a good home to, I suppose she was more interested in boosting her kennel club name in the ring... but if it wasn't for that, I'd have never ended up with this bundle of fluff.
Love your dog and video by the way

Heck yea. I love pugs! They are little people trapped in a dog's body. So much personality, and so much love for their owner.

Here is Phoebe, our 13 year old chocolate lab. She is a sweetie but has severe grass allergies and thyroid problems.....combine those with steroids in the spring and her weight is quite a yo yo!

Thought she was going to live out her senior years an only dog but this spring one of my customers found a black lab pup in the ditch and the driver on that route brought her back to the shop. So now "Daisy" is our official mascot and spends her days with me at work at the wholesale florist and goes home with me at night. My bookkeeper LOVES her, so she spends busy mornings in the office with her and she runs around causing mischief in the afternoons. Customers mostly love having her around, and I can't believe what a calming effect she has on employees....never would have thought of having a dog at work but it is awesome.

Here she is going on delivery with me at about 3 months old:

Here is a recent pic after a long session of fetch with the Chuck-it wand:

And on a sadder note, we have 2 cats. My wife loves them and I never thought I would.

We have a 16 year old stray Patches that is totally her cat and doesn't give me the time of day.

7 years ago my teenage foster daughter found a kitten and begged us to let her keep "Stewart". He is the best cat I've ever known.....a great hunter, loves to come and sit with me, and doesn't take crap from the big dogs.

3 months ago we discovered a lump on his bag leg. It turned out to be a fairly aggressive cancer probably related to the Feline leukemia vaccine. Our vet didn't want to amputate and tried to remove it but 2 weeks ago a lump reappeared on that leg and another on the other. A cancer specialist in Memphis confirmed that his cancer was back, and on 2 legs amputation was no longer an option.

Worse, the only thing that might improve his condition would be a combo of radiation and chemo. The chemo would be ok, but the radiation is nearly impossible as the closest place is Auburn, AL almost 500 miles away. We decided to just watch him and make sure he stays comfortable and when he starts to show pain or the tumors impede him do the humane thing.

For now we are just enjoying his last days as he doesn't know he is sick yet.

Here is my buddy Stewart:

Not impressed with the new addition to the family:

That's very sad to hear, jzzbassman. I had to put down my cat a couple years ago, when he had a urinary blockage. The fee's would have been in the thousands, and they could not even guarantee survival. We luckily have a great and loving dog now. Wishing the best for yours.
I'm sorry, jzzbassman. That's sad to hear. You are doing the best you can for Stewart, making him as comfortable as possible. You will know when it is *time* and he will, too, though it is a difficult decision to make and follow through.

Daisy is very cute. I worked briefly for a landscaping company, and the owner brought his chocolate lab to work every day. I loved that goofy dog! I would take him out for runs and throw the ball. I used to bring my lunch and he would sit by my desk and watch every bite and slobber. He would bark at me to get him a dog biscuit on top of the filing cabinets. The manager there had him trained for the office, but she said I was ruining her training and spoiling him. He was so cute, I couldn't help it. There was a turkey farm nearby and he would find turkey feet and bring them back as offerings, laying them on the door mat outside.

Probably some mischief. And how to get away with it.

These are two pics of my Blue Point Himalayan Hobbes taken last February. He is in his favorite cold weather spot.. sitting center-front facing the roaring fire. Hobbes would sit there, eyes half shut, letting the heat flow over him for 20-30 minutes at a time. He was almost 16 when I took these shots with my cell phone camera. He passed last July. He had my heart and I miss him so much.

He was pretty.
I bet that he had a wonderful life. That's what counts.

Unfortunately, the time came yesterday.

Stewart did so well and outlasted all estimates, but in the last week his smaller tumor had obviously grown, and with both back legs being so bad off he couldn't find a comfortable position to lie down.

In typical cat fashion, he couldn't make it easy. When we got to the vet he pranced around, jumping up on the reception desk and then strutting into the back where the kennels are to show off.....more than he has in weeks.

Laura and I cried like babies and it was a devastating 30 mile ride home, but I know it was for the best. He was too great of a cat to let him go out suffering too much.

Pet your critters a little extra for us today.

Done and Done bro...

For what it's worth, you held up your end of the bargain we strike with our pets when we let them take us as their own...

We love them, we care for them, and we do our best to do right by them even when the pain of doing so is tremendous.

I hope you and yours will find solace in the memories of your lost loved one in happier times.

Peace.

I'm so sorry, jzzbassman! How heart wrenching for you and Laura! So many of us here know how you feel. Sending you both ((hugs)). Here is something Quarry posted on a recent SotD thread for Brielle, who also just lost her beloved cat.

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you …
I loved you so—
’twas Heaven here with you.

That makes me cry, but it really says it all. My sympathy to you and Laura.

Cali and her new Christmas pressies, a black & white skunk and a green frog:

That skunk toy is cool, there is an opening where you can put an empty water bottle. It makes a crackling noise that dogs love, plus the head squeeks!

Seriously? You are getting a cat? Do you realize that your birdie is a potential dinner for a cat?
Good luck!
Haha! Yeah I felt like that sounded weird LOL! Mitsy will have to go in her birdcage when the cat comes out to play

After losing Stewart, it was somewhat anticlimactic but 16 year old Patches succumbed Friday to kidney failure and we had to put her down.

She lived a long happy life, and my wife is taking this better than I would have thought....on the bright side she didn't seem to suffer much. Stopped eating midweek and started mewing so we took her to the vet Friday.

First time in our marriage we have been without a cat. Laura LOVES cats and has probably rescued 15-20 in the 15 years we have been married, so I would imagine it won't be long before one or two come into our lives. Someone needs to put the rotten labradors in their place.

Pet your furry critters for us tonight and treasure the time and love they give you. RIP Patches.
