Thread Starter
Re - Laura Tonatto (A loving tribute to Vol de Nuit.)
Maharadjah - Parfums de Nicolaï (Lavender over patchouli.)
Amber Gris - Balmain (At first a meh, now it's growing on me.)

Victorious (Semi)Blind Buys:

Bois Farine - Doughy, nutty, and slightly flowery. Hard to explain, best described as "peanut butter," but much better than it sounds.
Costes - Spicy soap

Out of all the "blind buys" the truest and most interesting blind buy was Mont Blanc Homme Exceptionnel.

Blind:
Rive Gauche Intense

Semi-blind:
Czech & Speake - Cuba (Sprayed it on my hand and bought it 15 minutes later)
Kenzo Power (Sprayed it on my hand, walked around for an hour, then bought)

Hopefully I'll be able to add L'Instant Extreme EdP to this list this year!

Dior - Cologne Blanche (powdery sweet almonds, far more interesting and mesmerizing than Pi)

Lalique - Encre Noire (as complex as the root systems in dark and foggy wetlands and the most unique vetiver I've ever tried)

Both of these were succesful blind buys!

I VERY rarely buy blind. But, I bought Habit Rouge blind because I got a great deal on it & I knew that I could easily unload it in the BN marketplace if I didn't like it. Luckily I loved it.

L'Anarchiste

Blue Jeans.
Just went for it and didnt regret it. However I'm hesitating to do some real hardcore blind buys, I think I wont go for niche blind-ever..

I only 2 bought a full bottles blind once last year, Ava Luxe's Ambra Tibet and the "Energizing Perfume" from L'erbolario. Ambra Tibet turned out to be a good buy, and the L'erbolario hasn't arrived yet.

I pretested a surprising amount of fumes in 2008 - among them my best buys like Washington Tremlett Black Tie, BOIS 1920 Sandalo e Thé, Borneo 1834, TDC Bois d'Iris...

A great blind swap was MPG Fraiche Badiane.

Alt-Innsbruck was a gift.

And great blind buys? Czech & Speake: Cuba, Neroli and Citrus Paradisi (the latter was outgrapefruited by Guerlains AA Pamplelune, however) were clearly the highlight.

Also very good: Eau de Rochas pour homme (vintage), biehl eo02, Borsari Acqua Classica and Té Verde.

Bought blind 2008 but still untried: TDC Rose Poivrée

Sadly, I found all my blind buys in 2008 to be unwearable. I even blind bought Mitsouko for my wife and neither of us like it.

I would like to say I will never blind buy again but I probably will anyway,

Rive Gauche pour Homme

Burberry London ( semi-blind as I smelled the base of it on a card. I did not know about the great tobacco smell that inspires me) :toppie:

KNIZE FOREST.

paid alot of money for this as a blind buy (around $150) and it was WELL worth it. A totally unique green fresh scent? Well that's hard to come by......VERY hard to come by.

ENCRE NOIRE.

this scent is a superstar. so different.....so brilliantly made. completely unique and a definite future classic.

EAU SAUVAGE FRAICHEUR CUIR.

a must for any true leather fan....one of the classiest and elegant fragrances i own. bought 3 bottles....BLIND!

PORSCHE DESIGN THE ESSENCE.

the best NEW scent of 2008....superbly made, adds a much needed fresh scent into my wardrobe, without smelling generic. beautiful bottle....and elegant fragrance all round.

Blind buys that turned out to be good buys: Arpege Pour Homme, Un Jardin Apres La Mousson, Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, Amber Gris, Hiris, Cabochard and L'anarchiste.

Several interesting but unsuccessful stinkers that make nasty faces at me when I peruse my collection. But it doesn't take a huge success rate to confirm me in my blind-buying, rough riding ways. Laura Tonatto's Re and PdN Balle de Match have both been a great pleasure to own and wear. I may prefer Re to Mazzolari Lui and MKK for regular wear, in fact. Marvelous stuff, and discontinued in the US with a few bottles, last I heard, still collecting dust at Luscious Cargo. Still avaible in Europe, I believe.

Well, probably all of my blind Guerlain's I bought were 'victorious': Chant D'Aromes EdT, vintage Mitsouko parfum, Vetiver EdT (well, just a mini bottle), L'Heure Bleue EdC, Jicky EdC, L' Instant Pour Homme Extreme, Shalimar Light and Winter Delice

Others are: Booster by Lancome and Nostalgia by Santa Maria Novella

Unsniffed triumphs:
Balmain - Ambre Gris
YSL - Nu
Guerlain - Shalimar Eau Legere
Rochas - Absolu

OK for the price, but not extraordinary
Rochas - Tocade
Clarins - Par amour

Regrets
Caron - Parfum Sacre EDP

I bought this one based on my love of Tubereuse Criminelle by Serge Lutens, which is beautiful but I was looking for a tuberose without the petrol note. Besides this, Fracas and EL were other contenders, but those were too diva. Contrary to what members on this site say, this does not smell definitively female. Carnal Flower must be sprayed sparingly, though. Besides this I blind-bought a bottle of Gaiac 10 at it's price, but this may become my signature scent, so it's OK. And I cannot forget Guerlain Sous le Vent, CdG Man 2, and Penhaligons Elixir.

wow!! it takes a lot of, a lot of...(how do you say), ah yes, physical fortitude to spend so much money in blind buys. At least you went for some gorgeous ones like Sous le Vent.

B*Men by Thierry Mugler - bought it blind and didn't like it due to overspraying. Decided to give it another chance less than a month later and bought the one with the rubber flask and loved it.

Terre d'Hermes - I tested it in a store and liked it but was not too impressed. Then I decided to should just get a bottle for myself and maybe I can see what the hype is about. The bottle that I received was much more vibrant than the tester I tried at the store which is exposed to heat and light. My bottle was so much better. I consider this to be somewhat of a blind buy since what I got was more potent and vibrant than the store's version and I was not expecting it. It was almost as if I bought a totally different fragrance from what I was expecting to receive.
