............ smells like a log of, WOOD

we always talk about woody scents....now, could we be really, specific!?

of what i have tested...these two come to mind...

Serge Lutens Chene
Gucci Pour Homme...

both the above scents share a common note of cedar...which is very obvious.

could our freinds here refer scents which evoke the image of "wood" for them...? the woodier the better.

i'd rate Chene at 3 out 5 in terms of it's woody feel and Gucci Ph at 2.25. i have rated consevatively in the hope of finding something much woodier..thnx folks!

Scent One: Hinoki by Comme des Garcons x Monocle is really the only fragrance I've smelled that recreates a piece of wood so realistically. I've tried many (Sequioa, Cedre, Rocabar...) but Hinoki delivers. You have to like camphor to like this one (which I do), and it's over priced - but I treasure my bottle.

Another that comes to mind instantly is Cypres Musc by Creed.

My number one woodiest scent I have EVER smelled is Penhaligons Opus 1870. In fact, it's too much wood, and it kind of overwhelms me whenever I have tried to sample it. But, if you're looking for the ultimate wood scent, it wouldn't hurt to try Opus.

Just today tried: Nasomatto Duro. Wood to the extreme. Compared to this Gucci PH is like mothermilk.

Seconding Hinoki. A giant woody.
It's just occurred to me that while there are many woody perfumes I like, none I've smelled smelled like a newly felled tree.

Loads of cedar wood and some hits of vanilla far at the bottom is Le Boisé by Ginestet. I recently got a bottle from a bnoter and when worn in abundance, it's really a great experience!

I agree with Chene, and also Annick Goutal - Encens Flamboyant, kind of a burning wood sensation going on, it is very nice.
Agree about the Chene, it is marvellous. I think of it as a woody-herbal scent.
Very woody scents, emphasis on cedar (r/than pine, cypress or sandalwood):
Hinoki, a real woodshop of a scent
Bois D'Orage and Bois D'Encens (for an austere resinous-incense twist)
Opus 1870
Mechant Loup
R&G L'Homme
Agraria Balsam.
He Wood by DSquared

I love dry woody scents and I endorse all of these!

Etro's Mahogany is very woody, along the same lines as Chene but not as refined.

I gues nothing beats Greyland in being "woody".

i'd have to agree. this is one of the thickest woods fragrances i've tried recently----and quite good at it too!

Lalique Pour Homme Equus is a VERY cedary fragrance. Though I think it's much MORE than this... it does smell like bright, freshly sawed cedar shavings. So not so much a log, I guess... but cedar shavings, for sure.

CDG Sequoia is one of THE woodiest fragrance I can remember of atm. It smells very much alike to a damp log of wood to my nose.
Les Nez Let Me Play The Lion is similar to Hinoki although with an ambergris note thrown in the mix (and perhaps wormwood, or anise?).

Good stuff, and smells a bit more natural to my nose than Hinoki (as in natural ingredients, although Hinoki smells more uni-dimensionally 'wood like')

Thnx Folks !

so, Hinoki and Sequoia gets most of the votes... both from CDG..interesting~!
monocle: hinoki by CDG is definitely the most "woody" fragrance I've sniffed
post #18 of 37
Straight to Heaven by Killian - I feel like I am standing in the lumber section of Home Depot
post #19 of 37
Sequoia is the loggiest I've ever tried. Very realistic, but unless I wish to attract woodworm, not wearable to me.
Tumulte PH. slightly sweet and much more cedar to me than Gucci PH
post #21 of 37
Palisander is the woodiest I've smelled, even more than Sequoia
post #22 of 37
Bogner Deep Forest quite woody and old school..
To my nose nothing smells more like pure wood than Chene. I own Duro and Hinoky (camphre) as well, and love them. But they don t have such a strong "real" wood smell as Chene does.

By the way i received Chene 6 month ago and yet i still don t know if i love it or hate it.

Encre Noir too creates this image of woody-goodiness...wht do y'all think....?
Although the title of the thread is fragrances that smell like a log of wood, I would like to add that Heritage smells like sawdust to me.

Oud Wood. Dry dry dry
Christian Lacroix Tumulte

Ormande Jayne Isfarkand

Both very much wood!

10 Corso Como..You will also get a little incense with your woods.

My buddy has a woodworking shop, and I used to spend hours hanging out in there while wood was being cut, drilled, sanded, and stained. CdG Hinoki replicates the smell of being in that shop to such perfection it's downright eerie. Lots of fragrances approximate wood smells (Gucci Rush, Tumulte, Gucci PH, etc.), but Hinoki is the smell of wood. It's been a while since I tried Sequoia, but I'll locate my decant and try it tonight.

CdG Jaisalmer smells like a freshly sawn pine board and nothing else. Hinoki is very woody too.

I agree with you.....The top notes in Encre Noire are so woody and when I sprayed some last night on my wrist and sniffed it from up close, I told myself that this stuff smells like a block of wood would smell....The opening was so much like 'Gucci pour homme'....unbelievable.....
Tam Dao smells not so much like a log, but wooden furniture.
How long does Hinoki last? From what I remember it smelled like freshly chopped block of wood. Amazing!!
TdH.

To me Burberry London smells like walking in a pine forest in the winter, and it also reminds me a little of smelling a log of pine .
