Rive Gauche question

Hi
I've been wearing Rive Gauche on and off since the age of fifteen (1987)
Whilst I can live with the re-formulation and RG intense I would like to get hold of the pre 2003 formulation.
My question is, is it true that the pre-2003 formula is the bottle with RG in the middle and YSL at the bottom, also the silver band below the lid is wider that the rest?
Has the shade of blue changed over the years too?
I seem to remember bottles from my youth being a lot less bright.
Many thanks
Lindsay

Is this the bottle you are refering to?
I didn't realise they were different. I have always loved
Rive Gauche and would love to get hold of some vintage stuff too.
Not sure if Tom Ford worked his magic on this reformulation as much
as he has done with others (Gucci, Estee Lauder etc.)

Yes...I think the most recent style bottle has YSL in the middle then underneath RG with a tiny square at each side, unless they are both post 2003?

Not a great photo--but his is my very old EDT:

They do seem to be different.
I cannot tell if the blue has changed, but there is certainly less of it on my old bottle. And the width of the bands is different, as you suspected.

The few precious drops remaining smell divine!

Gosh, that does look old...well before my time!
The bottle I remember from my youth was pretty similar to how it looks now only the blue was less electric.
I do have a bottle that I got from Ebay of the one in the pic posted by Kewart and it certainly smells different that than my most recent bottles, it has that much louder opening note, however it was slightly used and has a note of pencil shavings that I don't recall having detected before.
Having said that I've never really scrutinzed it before!

I am almost certain I bought it in 1986 or 1987 in Nice, France.
I carried it around in my purse for years!!!
I believe the wear makes it look even older! I'm a bit more gentle my fragrances these days.

I got my first bottle xmas 86 so I must have just missed out on that style bottle.
I've got a chance at getting my hands on a bottle of this...

do you reckon this is pre 2003?

Now I'm wondering if bottles may have been/may be slightly different in France and in other places? Where did you get yours? It seems odd the one on the site you linked would be vintage.

Sorry, I think I'm muddling you up now!
The first two pictures in this thread are both still available on Ebay and I was hoping the first (posted by Kewart) may be pre 2003.
The bottle I refer to remembering from my youth was mostly blue like today's but the shade of blue was not quite as 'electric' as I recall.
I suppose the bottle has gone through many changes over the years, as did it probably vary depending on the country.
I don't know about the edp in the third picture I posted...I didn't think it was even available anymore so I was hoping that might be pre 2003?
I'm confusing myself now

I have a bottle of the silver one shown in this picture. It's an EDP. It has the required Large 'Rive Gauche' in the middle of label. Mine is great and seems vintage. I have a vintage can & one I got from a european site 'Les Scentuers' the problem is, they are mixed up. They both seem good so I would recommend it, as long as the picture is accurate. Here is one left you can try to grab it!

Thanks
It's now winging it's way to me, I'm thinking owning five bottles of the same perfume is a bit ott but I manged to get two bottle of RG Intense for £19 each which seems quite reasonable.

Did you get the regular , too? It is very diff from 'Intense'. (You probably know) less tingley aldehydes in the 'Intense'.

Yep, I have the current regular EDT version and 'I think' the pre 2003 EDT...I don't like the current as much as previous formulations but It's still my favourite ever scent.

rive gauche bottles are my specialty.
i scour for the old ones. and the old ones from the seventies and eighties weren't blue at all. they were turquoise. and they read, "paris" in the lower left hand corner( this is the key)... some old ones were black, esp parfum de toilette. big thing also: old ones have the lovely ysl logo embossed on cap (metal caps)

i have pics of the old look, but no links ill see if i can email you

what im not sure about is whether the look changed before the formula, but i dont risk it. i assume they happened at the same time. i bought the turquoise bottles online until at least 2000.

Thanks Hillaire!
That's exactly as I remember it...I have a picture of me as a teenager in my bedroom and there is a bottle just like that on my dressing table, and next to it the talcum powder.

does anyone have the definitive answer on this? pix will do. ;-)

I'm not sure if this is useful any longer in the discussion.but my bottle, puchased in 80's (I can't remember--went to France several times in the 80's and bought it there--probably in 86) is this:

I am out of the country for the month so cannot check the cap, but as you see, the color and stripe scheme is not the same as the that of newer bottles.
