Let us remember the dogs this winter.

Looking out my back window, I am greeted with an incredibly sad sight. A poor dog tied to a stake in the middle of a grass-less yard. It is sub-20 degree(f) temperatures. His water is frozen. His food bowl is empty. He is curled up in a ball on the dirt. His dog-house has no straw or bedding.

Total and unmitigated depravity. The owners of this dog are the kind of people I want to see unfortunate things happen to. I despise them. This is not an isolated case though. All around the world, dogs are being mistreated.

Some will say, "well it's just a dog, who cares." To you, I say, "**** you." All dogs are born into this world because of human involvement or lack thereof. Puppies come from one of these 4 things:

1. We plan for them to be born.
2. Our pets, ignored, birth puppies with strays.
3. We dump our pets somewhere and they reproduce eventually.
4. Irresponsible owners with multiple pets, do not control breeding.

It may seem radical to some, but all four of them have one thing in common, human causation. Which brings something else into account. The total lack of responsible permeating into society today. That is a discussion for a different time though.

In closing, I want to say, remember your pets. Remember those pets without homes. Remember those pets with homes, but with piece of **** no good mother ****ing owners.

Signed, a proud owner of two lovely dogs whom I consider them to be family.

End rant.

I agree 100%. Now go call the police and/or go kidnap that poor dog. I mean it -- it's your moral duty.

Ditto. Or call your local animal shelter or ASPCA. With those temperatures, I vote for kidnapping the dog; not for keeps (although the poor thing deserves it) but for its protection.

*sigh* I vote for kidnapping the dog.

I see we were thinking the same thing, turquoisewater. If not kidnapping, then yeah, try calling the police or the local animal shelter. Dead dog carcasses are a health hazard, anyway, if nothing else convinces them to do anything.

Go rescue that poor dog!!!!!! Right now! Or at least give it bedding, water and food! Let us know what happens. I for one would like to sleep tonight. Our Pug sleeps with us under the covers.

Your neighbors definitely need to be reported. That kind of neglect is inexcusable.
Call the police and/or the ASPCA before the poor dog dies.

1. Take a pic and upload it to the local TV stations with text after #2

2. Call the police/local animal authorities. If no immediate action, walk over and take the dog to a shelter.

poor baby I do NOT understand how people can be so cruel to a poor defenseless animal like that.

That's really sad. ibarney5, I hope you did something to help that poor dog.
Pls. come back let's us know how s/he doing.
Yes, lets hear what action you took!

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night in my warm bed, knowing that poor animal is suffering like that. The least you can do is call the police (before its too late), you can remain anomymous if you want to.
The sad thing is, I'll bet, if you called the police they wouldn't do anything. A friend of mine had a similar problem with a neighbor with a mother dog and her puppies. She called the police, and. . . well, they just kind of ignored her call. All but one of the puppies died.

Laws regarding owner treatment of animals vary from state to state, I believe. I hope you were able to help this poor dog. Would love to hear back what happened.

Mistreatment of animals breaks my heart. I just cannot take it. I hope some sort of rescue comes for this dog.

Ditto. My two doggies are part of my family, almost like children...I can't imagine it being any other way!

IBarney5, please let us know what happened. I agree 100% with those suggesting kidnapping (I have been involved in 2 kidnappings of dogs for humanitarian reasons and believe that it is completely justified in situation where an animal is suffering). I also agree with KBE - get some cell phone footage, and contact the local media - stories about animals are usually popular and this exact tactic is used increasingly to shame neglectful owners into actions.

I hate people who mistreat dogs. And I do mean 'hate'.

I think where my county stands on the issue is if the dog has adequate shelter(i.e. a dog house), they can't do anything to the owners. If they aren't feeding or giving the dog water, they could do something. They usually feed and water the dog, but I guess last night, they were too lazy to get out in the cold to freshen its water or refill its bowl. I took him a bowl of food out there last night. I'm going to again tonight as well as some water hopefully. I've been gone all day so I don't know if they've given him any water or food or not.

On the issue of kidnapping, if I can't prove neglect, then i'd be charged with a crime. I can't prove they didn't make an effort to feed and water the dog, unfortunately. I wouldn't have any place to house him anyway. My dogs have had all their shots and everything, but I don't know if this one has or not. As much as I care about this guy, I can't risk the safety of my two dogs.

I understand that completely.
I took in a stray dog a few years ago, and he attacked my other dogs. They required stitches and ugh!

I also managed to pay $300 for a cat that ended up having feline AIDS and was pretty much dying. There are always tons of abandoned dogs where I live now, and with already 6 animals in the house, I cannot afford to take in more. 'Can't save them all unfortunately. I do what I can for the ones I have.

I know what you mean. Be nice if I was a wealthy person. I could build an animal shelter and take in all the strays I could find and do my best to find them caring homes. That's a dream though. My two dogs are both rescued animals. Both of them were puppies when I got them. My first, I picked up from somebody who didn't want her. She was near death the vet said. The other, was a stray puppy. She hung around the house for a few days, but I was reluctant to take her in. Then one day, I found here cowering and whimpering. I discovered she had been hit upside the head by someone. It was swollen and everything and I just couldn't turn a blind eye so I took her in.

I had people living next to me that neglected their female shepard. All they cared about was the money they were going to get for breeding her. They kept her locked in a small kennel most of the time. Every time she escaped she jumped in my back yard. I would feed her up before taking her back. She was so starved for affection. They moved when the woman became pregnant. O, and when they moved they left their cat, that we adopted. I really worry about the kids that they will have. When the thrill wears off of being parents I wonder how neglected they will be. I hope they rot! Sorry for the rant but I DO NOT trust people that neglect or abuse animals! I think it is very telling of someone's true nature.

Happy to hear that he had some food.

Nice job ibarney5! It is important to stay within the limits of the law, yet still act on behalf of the poor animal. You did a good thing to provide nourishment to that innocent furry creature.
