Only The Brave by Diesel

I'm less interested in the notes (leather, lemon, woody cedar notes and amber) and more dazzled by the fist shaped bottle and the 'face' of the scent, model (and one time Madonna boy-toy, Tony Ward) - see below.

Supposedly you European Basenoters should see this on shelves sometime in March '09, while us in the US won't see it until May.

I wish I liked Diesel scents as much as I like their unique and clever bottles.

I just find the bottle tacky - ??
Let's hope it's not another Fuel For Life - I hate it and it's very popular here.

I hear ya. Seconded. When I saw a magazine spread for this on the weekend, this was my sentiment exactly. (Though, I imagine it will be a hit with its target market).
Shades of LeMale? Though not quite as overt....
Mmhm, cant they squeeze enough money out of Fuel for Life anymore?
Il try it out though, once it has hit the stores, I have to admit I quite liked FfL, however nowhere near fbw.
quite possibly the coolest bottle I have ever seen.
The fist bottle with Diesel "ring" looks kind of cool. It should definitley appeal to the young male market. Otherwise, I have been really unimpressed with their other frags.
I'm on the "bottle is tacky" side. Really tacky!

I'll smell it, but I'm not expecting much.
We Love or hate a scent before we ever sample.....When will we learn?
I'll wait to sample and then make a statement......Does sound interesting....

I'm digging the bottle. To me, it looks very 'Salvador Dali' in an obnoxious, marketing/branding kind of way.
tacky, but not nearly as bad as the le male bottle.

it will probably smell better, too, despite being generic as always
post #13 of 57
I think the bottle is badass. But then again I'm probably the bottle's target demographic (17y/o). Fuel for life's bottle on the other hand was a bit overdone.
The notes at Now Smell This mention that Olivier Polge is working on it (well, with a team of course). Maybe a new Dior Homme?

(Okay, I'm really hoping because I like Diesel's stuff...)

this is just silly

It looks like some kind of ... toy.

It looks like someone about to punch you in the guts... or face... or nose...
I see it's listed on the Sephora website, but not available yet. Anybody actually see it in any stores yet?

I've been looking for it since the day I knew it came.. Though, no succes.
I have a feeling this will smell like Pi Neo. Interested to see how it turns out!
That bottle reminds me of the movie Undercover Brother - very funny spoof - "Solid!"

Looks like we found Le Male's hands.

We need the rest of him. We can use Dali's nose and lips. It's like Mr. Potato Head for fragrances.

Makes one wonder what the hand of the feminine version bottle will be doing.....
I believe I have finally seen a bottle more tacky than fierce. Same intended market, both a little too embarrassing to have in your gym-bag...at least the sticker comes off the fierce bottle.

Does it smell as pretentious as it looks?
Will Mr. Ward be reprising his famous bathtub performance for the advertising?

Inquiring minds want to know.

SirSlarty - I think you are on to something!

I don't understand all of the talk about the bottle......I thought that the bottle itself didn't matter at basenotes.....What matters is the contents.....At least that's what I thought.

Since mo one has smelled it yet this is a just for loughs thread

OMG, I don't dig it either...looks like "Black Power" set on its side.

I might be in the minority, but I'm seriously getting tired of cedar in everything!!!

I pray so hard that sandalwood be the "wood of the moment" again.

Is sandalwood a hard and pricey raw material to synthesize? Wasn't so hard during the Escape and Dune eras of perfumery....*sigh*

Well sometimes a flashy bottle scares me! It can mean that all the money was spent on the flashy packaging of the bottle and box and none is left for the jus - so you end up with a very generic alternative to either Aqua di Gio or Eternity for men....
SirSlarty, that is hilarious!

But yeah the bottle is tacky but the toyboy on the ad can stay, or go to Tom Ford advertisement club and I have faith in them doing something nice(r).

Which fragrance is the nose and lips?
That's Dali, the original.
Another one from L'Oreal. The bottle looks cheap, vulgar. So does the guy.
So instead of spritzing would it be fisting? badump-bump

Tried this the other day and...it's watered down Allure Homme at best. Nice bottle but...avoid spraying at all costs.
Sir Slarty, that was freakin hilarious! What a great imagination and talent to back it up! lol I am in the camp that finds the bottle on the cheap side although I try to look at it as something artistic as MikeP conveyed. To not be judgmental, I tested the juice and couldn't stand it. Gary has love for it so out of respect, I tested it again but to no avail. Sorry Diesel, I am not that brave, apparently.
Just tried it today.. a solid one, though reminds me more of a deospray than a perfume.. nothing special.
It all points out at the fact that Sir Slarty has become the fragrance version of Dr. Frankenstein... Wonder what his perfumes do. .-)
